Wilmette officials made the unanimous decision to raise the Wilmette sales tax from 0.25% to 1% starting in 2015.   Currently, the Village of Wilmette website displays the sales tax as: The "Village of Wilmette Home Rule Sales Tax" will now be 1% bringing the total sales tax in Wilmette to 9%.   The recent recession strained the budget with the Village losing $15 million in revenue since 2008. Infrastructure was the most underfunded area with many streets and alleys now in dire need of repair. This increase expects to add an additional $1.5 million to the budget. The budget includes $1.4 million for street resurfacing and repairs, plus another $920,000 for alleys, brick street maintenance and sidewalk/curb repairs.       12/05/2014
