On October 4th Riverwoods will be celebrating its 50th anniversary for the founding of the Village. We are having a huge barbecue, a big band playing and hopefully tales of the history of the Village. Stories of the days when Riverwoods was simply a community of summer cottages for the wealthy residents of Winnetka. When there was an amusement park on the corner of Deerfield and Milwaukee Avenue, When a bunch of farmers got together at the Hermann Wildflower Farm on the corner of Deerfield and Portwine and named the streets after their favorite drink ie: Portwine & Sherry. In the old days there were small rattlesnakes all along the Des Plaines River which are long gone today. We still have our horses and hopefully some of them will be at the celebration.
