If you know anything about me, you know that I'm from Glen Ellyn, IL, just outside Chicago. We people from Chicago take some things very seriously, especially our Sports! This is the first Stanley Cup in my lifetime, and although I'm not the biggest Hockey fan ever, I'm still pretty darn excited! I grew up playing hockey in my friend's driveway in the Chicago area. We used to pretend we were Keith Magnuson and Bobby Hull. When it was winter and the ice was thick enough on Lake Ellen, we'd out our skates on and take the game out onto the ice. I thought it would be more beneficial to look at 2008 Glen Ellyn Real Estate numbers in context with those same numbers from past years. I have gone back to 2005. This should give us a good idea of where we have been. This first graph is of average sale price. The average sale price of Glen Ellyn homes had a plateau in 2005 and 2006. It went up considerably in 2007 and then dropped to below 2005 sales prices. Now these are just averages. These are just Glen Ellyn real estate averages; let me know if you need a more detailed breakdown for your neighborhood. The next two graphs are Days on the Market and Number of Homes Sold.     The first settlement was in 1834 and was initially named the town of Danby. And changed to Prospect Park in 1874. Thomas E. Hill and Seth Baker spearheaded a drive to create a lake out of the swamp east of Park Street.  The lake was created by damming a stream and it was suggested that it be called Lake Glen Ellyn – “Glen” because of the terrain, and “Ellyn,” for the spelling of his wife’s name. Lake Glen Ellyn became so popular that in 1891 the name Prospect Park was changed to Glen Ellyn. The five springs, just east of the lake were believed to be of  therapeutic value to those suffering from rheumatism, gout and other such health problems.  This resulted in the building of a large resort hotel high on Honeysuckle Hill between Crescent Blvd. and Lake Ellyn.  National advertising ... 08/22/2008
