Small House for Sale in Evanston Are you thinking of buying a condo but can’t stand the thought of living in a high rise or vanilla box condo with no outdoor space? Need a pet friendly place for you and Rover? Then this adorable little house might be for you.   This one-bedroom home at 2225 Noyes Street in NW Evanston is 616 square feet of pure charm, plus plenty of outdoor space, including a nice yard and brick patio  It’s one of the original Sears Roebuck catalog house, constructed in 1917 from ready-to-assemble pieces. It was certainly a quality product, as it’s solid as a rock despite being almost 100 years old. Here's how it looked in the Sears Roebuck catalog: Although it’s small, the house has everything you need: a recently updated kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and a “great room” ...

Just came from the car wash... it's a lovely day, bright, sunny, and I haven't had the car washed in a coon's age, so I figured it was time. I go to a local hand-wash, where I have a 10-pass card, so I might as well get it washed... after all, I've already paid for it, haven't I? I pull into the line, gather up my miscellaneous "trash" that has collected in the car, and deposit it in the trash bins at the entrance, and pull into the building behind about four other cars, and another fifteen, or so, lined up behind me who've had the same "great idea". I relinquish my car, leaving the keys in the ignition, to the fella holding his hand out... no problem, after all, where can he go with the car, there are four cars lined up ahead of us, and no way around them. I make my way over to the off...

For those of you, here in Evanston, who have been bemoaning the loss of Casteel Coffee (which closed unceremoniously a couple of months back), you're in luck. Curt's Café, which is in the same location at 2922 Central Street, has been in "testing" mode... they're training their employees and readying them for the onslaught.  They officially open to the public on Monday, April 23rd. Curt's Café is set up as a training ground for troubled youth, to teach them about the food industries, and make them hire-able outside the Café.  They're goal is to give them basic cooking skills, teach them counter service and barista training while also teaching life skills so they can be successful in the community. Their students are all from Evanston, and will have a full-time supervisor on staff.  Curt...

Some of you may know that we had a heck of a storm pass through the Evanston area yesterday morning. It roared through here around 8:00 in the morning, and a mere fifteen-twenty minutes later was simply a memory.  But it left over 170 trees, or large branches down in Evanston, and hundreds of thousands of Chicago-area residents without power, and/or cable.  In my case, it left me without Comcast which handles my Cable television, broadband and telephone. But I'm more fortunate than others, as we had no loss of trees, no damage to the house, no water in the basement, and we still have electricity.  As I write this there are still close to 100,000 Commonwealth Edison customers still without power, in hot and steamy condition. Just to give you an idea of the power of this short-lived storm...

OPEN HOUSE, EVANSTON, IL I will be sitting an Open House today at 2439 Cowper, Evanston, IL at this darling... storybook cottage.  It's just as charming as it appears, but also larger than it looks.  It's located in an area of Evanston where there have been recent tear-downs and sales of homes that are in the high 800's and 900's, and even a couple of low millions. This home is only a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home... (a great alternative to living in a condo), but it has character and charm to spare.  The living room has a fantastic stone fireplace, and a lovely bay window overlooking the large front porch.  The kitchen has been nicely upgraded, and boasts a Spanish tile counters, white appliances and a breakfast bar for at least 2 maybe 3 people. The dining room is separate, and large enough...
