I'm corny, I admit it. I love locally grown and freshly picked corn on the cob! For me, late summer is all about the sweet corn. Truly, if you've only had grocery store corn (I pity you, really I do) then you have no idea how sweet, tender and delicious fresh corn on the cob can be. You've simply got to try it! For the freshest and most delicious corn grown locally, head on over to W. Henry Lane in Barrington, Illinois. This little farm stand is one of Barrington's best kept secrets but totally worth the gorgeous drive through the Barrington countryside to get there. A few homemade signs help mark the way, but to help you out, here is a map of it's location:     Of course, you can get much more than corn on the cob. Freshly grown tomatoes, beets, green beans, onions and other fruits and...

Many buyers are waiting, waiting, waiting to buy a new home.  Waiting for the right time.  Now is the right time for First Time Home Buyers, Investors buying investment property and people up-sizing or moving to a more depressed area.  For first time home buyers now is the time to invest in your future.  If my children were a little older and had more money in the bank, I would coach them now to buy. The rental market is pretty good right now for investors, the numbers are working.  Financing is a little tough for some even with good credit and money down.  Get pre-approved first. Many people are having a hard time letting go of their current home for less or close to what they paid a few years ago.  If you are moving up, in most cases you...

How would you like to save $.08/gallon? Consider this - All you need to do is pay $50 for a gas card to receive $51 worth of gas.  If your reaction was "so what", you should do the math.  $51 buys you 12.23 gallons @ $4.17/gal. (today's price).  Since you only pay $50 for the 12.23 gallons,  you are only paying $4.09/gallon.  If you want to take advantage of this visit your neighborhood Marathon gas station.  Have a great day from the featured Barrington Mortgage Broker.   PS, Buy the card before you pump and confirm that you can use the card immediately.  At the pump select pay inside and bring the card back in to pay for gas.  My card did not work at the pump.

Handicap rounds started today at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington Illinois for the BArrington area Chamber of commerce golf league.                                     A perfect day for the first time out.  The sun was shining on the beautiful greens.  Another great way to meet other business owners and professionals in my area while doing something I love.  I enjoyed playing with Phil Rutledge from Rutledge Insurance and Financial Services, Allstate in Barrington and Ted McGinn Partner and Attorney at Lavelle Law, Ltd. in Palatine.  How did I play?  I am happy with my score for the first time out this season.  There is still room for more to join the league.                                      Makray Memorial Golf Club used to be the Thunderbird Golf Course.  It was renovated c...

One not to be missed historical landmark is The Catlow Theater in Barrington, Illinois. Now celebrating 80 years in downtown Barrington, The Catlow shows movies at discount prices; the general admission price is only $5.00!   With a rich history and cozy ambiance, The Catlow is a great place to spend date night. Best of all, The Catlow makes fresh popcorn on-site. None of that pre-popped stuff like the other guys.   Another benefit is that you can eat a great meal while you watch ~ dinner and a movie all under one roof! Simply order up your sandwich or salad from Baloney's next door and take it into the theater with you. But you better have a good appetite because Baloney's sandwiches are huge!   Next time you are looking for something to do, head into downtown Barrington for a classi...
