Picture perfect sunsets and expansive lake views dotted with islands, is how most people remember Hope. Just 12 miles from Sandpoint, on the North shore of Lake Pend Oreille. Hope found its begining with the building of the Northern Pacific Railroad which has since settled into two unique cities. Hope and East Hope and the name I love Beyond Hope on the Sam Owen Game preserve on the Hope peninsula. In the height of its time, Hope was a bustling town of 3000. Quite a bit of the labor to make the railroad were Chinese, brought over under 25 year contracts, Once the railroad was finished many made their home in Hope. The Historic Hotel Hope, was built by Joseph M. Jeannot in 1897 and still watches over Lake Pend Oreille. In the basement are the tunnels that once allowed guests to go to the...

Even through the deepest storms, the sun comes out and brings a rainbow.Don't you just love the weather forecast.   I keep waiting for someone to stick their head out the window, realize they were wrong and change the icon. The weather forcast lately has been cloudy with no precipitation according to the handy dandy icons. In real life though we had a great mixture of sun and rain.  I was in Sandpoint Idaho seeing very moody clouds in the distance.  Travelling towards hope on Hwy 200 the wind started kicking up and rain was coming down in buckets.  With the sun at my back I followed bright double rainbows all the way home.  Sadly  the camera on my phone did not pick up the brilliance of it but what a sight to see. Just as in life when we have those stormy days keep in mind that the sun...

From the very first moment I came to North Idaho I was awe struck.  Not a day goes by that I don't see something absolutely beautiful around me.  Today was a good day in real estate.  We have one offer rounding the corner to an acceptance and another full price on a dream home that is sure to please all.  With the efforts though I was just beat and tired and wanting to get home.   In all this beauty I am lucky enough to live on a scenic byway that just always takes my breath away.  My "commute" consists of driving through national forests filled with every color of green imaginable.  I must be watchful for a deer, elk or moose in the road, but there is often a eagle, osprey or hawk taking flight, a turtle making its way to the water, a fish jumping high above the water or some little tr...

Congratulations Bob and Connie Trotter on your purchase of the Spring Creek Property.  It will be nice to be close to family and I look forward to seeing all the changes you made to the house down below  when it goes up for sale.    Pristine 5 acre parcel with Cougar Creek flowing through it. Mostly level & usable land. Nice mixture of mature forest and natural open area's. Recently surveyed. Electric to property line. County road frontage & additional driveway easement. Extremely private building site area's. Cougar Creek is considered a "potable" water source. Just up the road is access to thousands of acres of National Forest. Minutes to Hope, Lake Pend Oreille with marina's, restaurants, fishing, & boating. Abundant recreational opportunities. Lots of wildlife in the area (including...

Are You Open Minded or Set in Your Ways not willing to change? Fixing my oatmeal this morning, and waiting for the water, to boil I had a moment for thought.  I realized I had been fixing oatmeal for years and until the last year or so had fought pouring the oats from the large opening into the measuring cup, especially when newly opened.  With the opening of a new box I would immediately tear off the seal. Then one day I had an Ah Hah oatmeal moment.  I left the seal in tact and simply cut a pour spout.  Not rocket science, and please do not laugh if you have been doing this for years, but the point being just because I had been doing it for years one way did not mean there was not another and possibly better way.  In this case a much better way. So what are you doing daily,  business ...

We finally got a little snow this  year, I was beginning to wonder if we would get any.  I was driving home on Scenic Byway Hwy 200 through Hope Idaho  where the views are always breathtaking but tonight was even better.  The sun was setting and the snow covered mountains were  pink with alpine glow and the lake was a hot fiery orange.  The sky was a mix of baby blues, yellows and pinks and it looked like a painting that the artist took liberties with.       Unfortunately I wasn't able to capture the magic or true beauty in this photo, but even the failed  attempt is inviting.

I was just working on one of my website designs and would like to invite you to see the wonderful works of local artist David Scherb.  Most of the original landscape oil paintings reflect scenes in the mountains and valleys of the Northwest, in particular Washington and Idaho. Paintings of lakes and seascape paintings are of beautiful Lake Pend Oreille and the matchless Oregon coast. You will also find colorful portraits of venice.  David is also drawn to painting church cloisters which seem to possess an ageless history of life that has been imprinted in their foot-word stone pathways. Please visit his website at http://davidscherbfineart.com to see his beautiful artwork.  You can also find his work at these galleries.   Exhibitions Spectrum Fine Arts, Spokane, WAOld World Art Gallery...

Waterfront property in Hope Idaho offers some of the finest homes and parcels on Lake Pend Oreille.  This is due in large part because much of the water frontage offers huge views of 2-4 mile wide portions of Lake Pend Oreille with the majestic Green Monarch Mountains in the background.  There are some elaborate and large estate homes, many of which are perched on sandy beaches with crystal clear, deep water ideal for swimming and boating. The town of Hope Idaho is just 20 minutes drive from Sandpoint, and approximately 30 minutes by boat.  Its essentially a bedroom community, with a couple smaller resorts such as Holiday Shores Resort & Marina, and Beyond Hope Resort.  There are several good restaurants, and a local favorite boating destination is The Floating Restaurant, or 'The Float...

The Hope/Clark Fork area stretches along the shores of Lake Pend Oreille from the Pack River to the mouth of the Clark Fork River, the major waterways that feed mighty Pend Oreille. Lake Pend Oreille is one of the West's largest freshwater bodies of water with several islands near the Clark Fork estuary, including the islands off Hope and the Hope Peninsula, Warren, Cottage, Pearl, Eagle, and Memaloose Islands, as well as the Islands at the end of the Clark Fork River, called the Clark Fork Flats, which includes Derr Island. There are three major peninsulas that thrust into the lake: Sunnyside, the Hope Peninsula, and Sagle. Sagle is actually more like an area the lake wraps around, but nonetheless is a major abutting feature of Lake Pend Oreille. It is important to note that the histor...

Hope / East Hope (Bonner County) Idaho It pretty easy to figure out why people choose the shoreline communities of Hope and East Hope for a full time home or for a place to retreat.  Beautiful blue sky, open spaces, some of the most incredible views of Lake Pend Oreille, great places to east, deep water access for year-round (albeit cold in the winter) water access, and miles of untouched national and state forest! The twin cities of Hope and East Hope lie on the east side Lake Pend Oreille with primary access from Highway 200.  The community is serviced by the Bonner County Sheriff's Department, Bonner County EMS, and several volunteer fire departments.   Hope and East Hope continue to be a rural community with many residents working to the west in Sandpoint. This is relatively small s...
