The acquisition of land in West Des Moines for the United States headquarters of London-based Aviva was finalized recently. Aviva is the fifth-largest insurance group in the world based on gross worldwide premiums as of 12/31/06. Aviva US is ranked #1 in sales of "indexed life insurance," which appears to be one of the new code words for whole life policies. The new facility will house Aviva's 360,000 square foot office building and corporate campus. It will be located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Jordan Creek Parkway and Mills Civic Parkway. That makes the new facility situated about 2.5 miles west of my company's headquarters lavish headquarters, which are slightly smaller than Aviva's proposed construction.  Des Moines continues to be a major headquarters for the ins...

Did you know that less than 10% of all adult Americans have a will? Amazing, because it is one of the most important documents you will ever create, especially if you have children. In addition to your will, it is advisable to create Power-of-Attorney's to allow someone you trust to be able to make financial decisions or pay bills on your behalf if you are not able to do so yourself. Also consider creating a living will, outlining the types of treatments that you would want or not want to have performed. Typically a living will is accompanied by a health care proxy, which is a Power-of-Attorney specifically for making medical decisions.  - Tip taken from the Mortgage Market Guides Weekly Update

This article was taken from Realtor Magazine Online, September 4th edition.  I really think there is some good information on this list for someone who is looking to purchase a house and fix it up or flip it. 10 Tips for Buying a Fixer-UpperBuying a basically sound house and updating the cosmetics is a profitable thing to do in almost any market. But be careful what you buy or it may end up costing you later on.Here are 10 things to consider when selecting a fixer-upper:1. Purchase homes that are at least 30 percent below the market value of comparable nearby homes.2. Choose a location with a low crime rate, good schools, and quiet streets. There isn't anything you can do to cure a poor location.3. Choose a house with three or four bedrooms. Smaller homes are unlikely to have enough buy...

Ever wondered about the most expensive house...in the world. I have. Come to find out, it's called Updown Court in Windlesham, England. It comes in at a nice $139 million. Not bad, unless you're Tim Blixseth and want to top it. Tim, you see, is building a new dream home just outside Bozeman, Montana that he's wanting to sell for $155 million. That's right $155 million! The 10 bedroom home will sit on 160 acres of land and have it's on lift to the private ski resort's slopes. Not too shabby. Find the whole article here. Of course, all this talk got me thinking about dream homes. Obviously that's going to be someone's dream home. What about your dream home? When will you find it? How will you find it?  When you're ready to find your dream home in Des Moines or central Iowa, give me a call...
