You've got better things to do on a Sunday than hold an open house. It's not the greatest feeling having your home opened up for strangers to ogle at your closets or poke through your shower. And while experts may debate the value of open houses, you want to get that property sold, so you do what you have to do. Your Realtor or agent should fill you in on the basics, such as getting the house as clean and tidy as possible for the big day, making sure both yards are trimmed and some fresh flowers are sprouting, and always hiding money, medication, jewelry or small valuables. In addition, here are some extra tips to make your open house count (and make you feel like you were productive during those precious Sunday hours): Make It Generic -- Yes, it's still your home, but you're trying to...

Wow! What an election. I'm sooooooo glad its over with. Now we'll see just how many campaign promises are followed through on. My hope is that now our country can go from red and blue, and come together and be purple. My hope that this new administration can bring everyone together. My hope is that our economy doesn't get worse. Have a great day and a productive week.

OK, so the question is are you certified or qualified? So what does it mean to be certified. Certified refers to the confirmation of certain characteristics of an object, person, or organization.            To be certified recognizes a certain professional association or professional regulatory organization as possessing the appropriate credentials. There are allot of certifications today, you could be "Board Certified", obtain a "Certified Copy", have a "Certified Check", be a "Certified Public Accountant". The word is used so much anymore that one would have to wonder who is truly the best person for the job.           Certification is truly a great asset to the person who obtains this title, it let's us all know he or she is licensed and has the proper education required to...

Do you ever wonder how our real estate market is here in Des Moines? Unfortunately, we spend a lot of time listening to how rough things are in other cities around the country, but too often we don’t really consider what our real estate climate is like. I’m a fan of having as much information available before I take action on any big decisions. I don’t know about you, but I think buying or selling a home is a pretty big deal. As a blogger and mortgage professional, when I receive good information - I pass it on. Home listings and sales are an interesting set of information most of us don’t have super easy ac...

I recently completed the course work to obtain my GRI (Graduate of Real Estate Institute) designation.  Continuing education is very important to me because it allows me to better serve my clients in their best interests.See what Realtor.org says about the GRI designation:"The Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) symbol is the mark of a real estate professional who has made the commitment to provide a high level of professional services by securing a strong educational foundation. REALTORS® with the GRI designation are highly trained in many areas of real estate to better serve and protect their clients."I look forward to putting the knowledge gained in these classes to good use while working for you!

**Click Here To See The Original Post on WealthWithMortgage.com!**Numbers are always extremely important to consider when buying, selling and financing a home.  Each week, I recieve a weekly market watch update providing the breakdown of the activity from last week.  The report is provided by Heather Barglof at Peoples Company. As I continue to get them, I will continue to post them (with her permission of course). Here is her breif market commentary this week:"Below is a snapshot of how the market performed last week measured against the previous week and the average year to date numbers.  In looking at the numbers over the last 3 months compared to the number of active listings today it looks as though there is just over a 9 month supply of homes in the Des Moines Metro.  Six months' ...

**Click Here To See The Original Post on WealthWithMortgage.com!**Numbers are extremely important to consider when buying, selling and financing a home. Imagine what it would be like if there was simply a national weather forecast. Crazy thought huh? (Especially since it was 6 below on my drive into work today) It is also tough to have a comprehensive national real estate market report (although some folks get caught up in national statistics). This is exactly why I appreciate getting the Des Moines Market Update from Heather Barglof at Peoples Company. As I continue to get them, I will continue to post them (with her permission of course). Here is her breif market commentary this week:Below is how the residential market in the Des Moines area performed last week. You can compare last w...

Des Moines Market Watch 1/7/08 - 1/13/08Numbers are extremely important to consider when buying, selling and financing a home.  Each week I receive a summary of the market activity in my email and I find these statistics very valuable.  Even though I cannot personally sell or help you purchase a home (I'm a money guy.. not a house guy). I can assist you in finding the right person for the job!Below is last week's market summary.  Looks like home sales were up last week!  (Click to Biggie Size It!)Sorry for the photo quality.  I will get that corrected next week. The weekly market watch content is courtesy of Heather Barglof.  Statistics are compiled from DMAAR.Email this • Technorati Links • Add to del.icio.us • Stumble It! • Subscribe to this feed

Mortgage rates go down then jump by more than 1/2%, all in one day!by: Brian Wentz, RelatorWhat a day it was! The Des Moines Real Estate market was not immune to the roller-coaster of a day brought on by the moment by moment changes in the mortgage markets.I arrived at the office at 9:00 AM to the good news that rates had dropped from 5.25% down to 5.0%. "That's incredible", I thought.Than, by noon- I got the update from one of my trusted lenders that rates fell even further to 4.875 % for a 30 year fixed rate. "Amazing- a 10 year low", I thought! Then, about 2:00 things came to a sudden, screeching halt. E-mail after e-mail cried that rates were headed up. And in the aftermath, rates finished the day out at around 5.5% for a 30 year loan. In my entire career, I have never seen single sa...

An enchanting store worthy of an afternoon visit!by: Brian WentzThis one of a kind store is like a window into the past! Located at 9th and Cherry in Downtown Des Moines, Iowa, West End Architectural Salvage is sort of a high end junk yard for recycled home products and custom made art work- all delivered with a touch of something special! Many of the stores offerings have been rescued from turn of the century homes that were to be demolished, or that have been removed during construction updates.  It really doesn't matter what you are looking for; if it is old, they likely have it. But unlike so many "antique vendors" who stock a lot of junk, you'll only find truly special, one-of-a-kind and hard to find items here!Entering at street level, the large granite coffee bar and open front l...
