This past Sunday on Maui there was a big celebration at Baldwin Beach Park, just outside of Paia.  It was to be an Earth Day celebration, with information booths, entertainment and food.  Since the permits weren't obtained in time, they had to downsize the event.  Nevertheless, there was a huge amount of cars parked at the park, and up and down the Hana Highway.  So many cars in fact, that we decided to skip it and headed to the next closest beach, at the other end of Baldwin Beach.  If you drive through the residential area of Spreckelsville, towards the Maui Country Club, you'll find this beautiful stretch of white sand, known as Baby Beach.  The large tidepool makes a great safe place for small kids to play in the water.  Well we certainly enjoyed ourselves for a couple of hours. ...

This morning was amazing.  I woke up at 5am and put on the coffee. I looked out side and the sun was slowly lighting the horizon.  The skies were clear and the wind had died.  I have been thinking how lucky we are living in the Hawaiian islands, living on one of the best places on the planet!  This is what I love about Maui's Northshore on mornings like this.  So I threw my surfboard in my truck and headed down to Hookipa Beach.  Five minutes and I am there and waxing up.  Its still early, and just the dawn patrol crowd is out.View Homes For Sale Maui's NorthshoreAs I am paddling out, I notice that there is another local in the lineup.  A Hawaiian monk seal.  He is just hanging out in the line up having a great old time.  My buddy swims up, he was bodysurfing, and I point out our seal f...

I was on caravan this last Thursday viewing new properties on the market.  Spreckelsville is a north shore community located right on the beach.  Baldwin Beach is just steps away from a morning swim.  You also have the country club right there for golf, tennis and the club it self. This home was built by a local contractor, known for quality construction.  It actually is a low maintenance home with little yard to care for, leaving you with more time for golf and surf.Everything in this home is in top condition, has the feel of a brand new home.So if you are looking for morning walks on one of Maui's finest beaches, access to great surf and windsurfing.  This might be the home for you. Wake Up - we're here to see the house.... Today I was showing some Paia Maui homes for sale to some new buyers, let's call them John and Sue.  We managed to get into one home on very short notice, the agent gave us the lock box number and said it was OK.  It looked a little like someone might be home... pickup truck in the driveway, junk in the yard.  I thought it was going to be vacant.  So I knocked on the door and got no response.  It was about 11 in the morning.  I opened up the front door and peered in, and shouted out "HELLO".  No response again.  I let the buyers in to have a look at this property which is listed as a short sale.  John walked down the hall to check out the bedrooms and turned right around and headed for the front door saying "let's get out of here, someone's home...

We are experiencing a Kona Storm in Hawaii right now.  What this is, is a storm that developes out of the south west, and brings strong winds and rain.  For Maui, sometimes this can be worst than a hurricane, being we never get hit by hurricanes.  Winds can get up to 80 miles an hour. So this morning I left the Northshore of Maui.  I live in Haiku, and drove to Wailea to work.  This morning as I was driving pass Hookipa Beach Park, I had to pull over and take some pictures.  I love rainbows when they are going off.  So here is some shots I took this morning. So I jumped back in my car and was heading towards Paia town.  As I was passing Mama's Fish House, I had to pull over it was just stunning.  So here are a few shots at Mama's. So I jumped back into my car and headed to work.  As I w...

Winter has finally arrived on Maui.  In Haiku it has been raining buckets, and the plants are loving it.  I had some down time today and went out in the rain and was just enjoying working in the garden.  I could feel everything growing.  Driving to Wailea office, it has been over cast, and raining today.  A sign of winter is the sugar cane flowering, which it does this time of year. All the fields are top off flowering in the cane fields. Paia Town on the north shore has been busy.  With wintry rainy days, people are looking for something to do.  They have been flocking to Paia Town.  Some of my favorite restaurants like Paia Fishmarket, Cafe Des Ames, and Flatbread has just been packed.  People like flatbread with the organic Kahlua pig pizza, my favorite.  They also have great draft b...

See that person surfing Tavares Bay?  That could be you if you owned an oceanfront home in Kuau Maui Hawaii.  Oceanfront homes for sale don't come along that often, so you'd better be ready to catch the wave.  Kuau and Paia are on the north shore of Maui - it's heaven on earth for surfers and windsurfers. Right now you can buy a classic home on a large oceanfront lot with this view.  I took this picture from the front yard of 475 Hana Highway, just this past week.  What's the price tag you ask?  What would you say to $1,700,000 for a 3 bedroom home on .44 acres - does that ring your bell? If you're looking to buy an oceanfront property on Maui, you can start your search at www.EastMaui.com by surfing the IDX for all active MLS listings.  Beachfront, oceanfront, across the street from a...

The day after Thanksgiving? They say the day after thanksgiving is a big shopping day?  Well that may be, I was enjoying some friends with a morning walk on Baldwin Beach on Maui.  It is just an exceptional morning, with no wind.  My friends flew in from California the day before.  So after our morning coffee and papayas we were off to Baldwin Beach. It was early in the morning, people were slow to hit the beach.  Maybe they were shopping, I can't believe they would pass up a beautiful morning. Baldwin, on days like this reminds me of Tahiti. This young girl just finish a ride on her boggie board.  The surf was perfect for a little shoreline surfing. This is a great walking beach. You see people jogging, walking their dogs, and couples taking in the morning sunshine.   This is called ba...

Last night, the news was saying that the winds were going to blow, 10 to 20 miles an hour.  Winter is here on Maui.  I woke up to early, the trade winds were just whipping up to 35 mph.  We have been experiencing just a beautiful fall.  Well winter has settled in, and most likely the rain will follow on the North Shore.  I was heading to Kahului town and I had my trusty camera with me.I was driving pass the Baldwin Estate, the Baldwins where early missionary's to Maui.  This is one of many homes that they built in the early, and late 1800's.  This estate is located in Haiku, Maui, on 25 acres. Haiku offers a blend of homes from plantation to contemporary design homes in 2 plus acres. Here is another island Haiku Home, on two acres in Haiku Makai.I was driving pass Hookipa Beach Park.  It...

While I'm on the topic of Old Hawaii (yesterday I posted about Old Wailuku), I just have to give a shout out to Eddie Flotte, a watercolor artist who is passionate about the old buildings and people here on Maui.  Here's a unique video featuring his watercolors of Paia and Makawao towns.  This will really tug at your heart if you're the nostalgic type... it's about 6 minutes with a musical soundtrack. Historic Paia and Makawao still retain a lot of the old-timey character from a bygone era, when sugar was king.  Maui has a rich history of immigration, which makes for a nice melting pot of nationalities and cultures.  All cultures are celebrated here and the best things of each gets knit into the fabric of the islands. If you're visiting Maui, be sure to spend some time in the north shor...

We are experiencing fantastic weather on Maui, right now.  I love Kona winds, which bring off shore winds for the surf.  The last couple days have been excellent at Hookipa Beach Park.  The waves were bigger yesterday, but the waves were happening.  I had to be in Wailea, for work at 10am.  So I was up at 6am, on the road with a hot cup of coffee.  Early morning surf check, signs are good and I am out there. This is a shot I took of the crowd getting caught by a set. It was just a beautiful day out in the surf. All good things have to come to an end.  Time to head to Wailea and get to work.  One thing about living in Hawaii is the lifestyle that we are allowed to live.  Out in the line up you might be surfing with a judge, maybe your insurance agent.  Eli with Central Pacific, is a loan...

I just wanted to do a quick post highlighting some Paia merchant news. First and foremost, Simmer is having their annual fall sale tomorrow. Simmer is one of our neighbors at the Shops at Paia Bay. Their sales are always a big draw as they offer upto 75% off on clothing, surfing and windsurfing gear. They usually have food, refreshments and a drawing towards the end of the day. Get their early before all the good stuff gets snatched up.   It is also worth noting that Indigo Paia has just launched a new website. They are another neighbor of the Jim Sanders Office located just east of us in the Paia General Store Building. Indigo offers beautiful imports from Asia. Their hand woven, organic dye rugs are the best available in the island. They also have a great selection of jewelry, home fu...

Okay I think we all agree that you can't work all the time.  Some of my days off from working in Wailea fall during the week.  As Realtors we have random working hours.  So today it was a beautiful day on Maui's Northshore.  I started the day with a drive down to Spreckelsville Beach with my wife Ivy.  She took off for a walk down the beach and I jumped on my standup surfboard to catch a few waves.  The swell has not filled in yet but is due to build during the day.  So later I headed to Haiku to the Goya surf and windsurf shop to order a new surfboard.  a 6'6" fish surf board.  This is Keith who is shaping my new board with the deposit. Keith is also a top pro windsurfer and has traveler the world competing.  Francisco and Laulo Goya are brothers that own the shop.  Francisco is a form...
