Well, after years of waiting, the 40 acre regional park just north of Hope Chapel will commence construction in January: This park's first phase should transform most of the landscape to make it look parklike, Matsui said. Most of the initial work, which should take about 10 months to complete, involves constructing infrastructure, such as sewer and water pipes as well as roads and parking lots. Total project cost is estimated at more than $30 million; and no one can say exactly when it will be done, although somewhere between 2015 and 2020 has been suggested by county officials in the past. Ultimately, the park's completion depends on the elected officials who hold the county's purse strings. It's a start anyway. Thanks to a comment by Ardell (I think) I have been able to just cut and paste these pictures in here, since the photo adding feature is sometimes acting up.... thanks Ardell!   These beautiful flowers are PLUMERIA flowers from Maui.  They were growing at the Keonekai Villages condos, where I snapped them while waiting for a client to show up.  Kihei Maui is on the south shore - it's hot and sunny and sandy and dry - just exactly what these trees like.  They smell fantastic too.  Kaheawa Wind Power - is a 30 MegaWatt wind farm located in the West Maui Mountains high above Maui's scenic shores, and very visible from the resort areas of Maalaea, Kihei and Wailea.  They are owned and operated by UPC Hawaii Wind Partners, a Massachusetts-based wind farm company.The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have agreed to join forces with UPC Hawaii Wind Partners to study the integration of wind technology into the Hawai'i utility system.  This is the first such partner site for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's wind technology program outside of its base in Colorado.  We are lucky to have this opportunity on Maui. Taken from a beach in North Kihei, this picture shows the 20 wind turbines on the ridge above the strip of Maalaea... 04/29/2008

KIHEI BEACH PARKS ON MAUI          KIHEI GOOGLE MAP Along the 6 mile stretch of South Kihei Road, on Maui's sunny south shore, there are a number of small and large beach parks.  Here's what you can expect to find as you drive from the north end to the south end: Ma Poina Oe Lau Beach Park - also known as Kihei Pavilion, or Ohukai, it's located at the foot of Ohukai Street.  This beach is popular with windsurfers when the wind is blowing "kona".  It's a narrow strip of sand, with some shady kiawe trees and a concrete pavilion. Aloha All,  I just wanted to start by introducing myself. I have been a full time agent on the Big Island now for 4 years. It's amazing how time flies :0) Now trying to get my feet wet here on Maui, no punt intended from leaving Hilo :0) I've been here now for 7 days. Wow, there is a lot of field work to get caught up on,  all the information and knowledge that I have to learn about my new area. Kihei is great! I send out a FREE email newsletter each month, about the South Maui Condo new listings.This time when I checked the new listings for January, there were about 87, and 10 were already PENDING.  That's a pretty good sign that properties are selling in South Maui. This picture is of the Palms at Wailea condo complex, which is a very popular vacation resort destination in sunny Wailea Maui.  Currently there are 18 active and pending listings here, with an average price of $944,277 and starting at $720,000 for 1 and 2 bedroom condos.  This is one of my favorite condo developments on Maui.  The grounds are so beautiful and the units have a nice layout.  The master suites are very luxurious and spacious, and the covered lanais are large.Here's a synopsis of the South Maui Condo newsletter that... 02/01/2008
