Mayor Alan Arakawa signed into law on May 25, 2012 the bill that establishes new regulations to allow short-term rentals in private homes. It ends what has been a 20 year battle to set up regulations and a simplified permitting process. It creates a process that home owners can work within to comply. Kihei Maui HI condos - Southpointe at Waiakoa market update Currently there are 13 Active and Pending MLS listings at the Southpointe development in Kihei Maui. Southpointe represents entry level Maui homeownership with lots of young families living here.  All units are 2 bedroom.  Bathrooms are either 1, 1.5, or 2.   The 2 story buildings contain apartments on either ground floor or 2nd floor.  Ground floor units come with a small private yard.  Upper units usually come with a small balcony.  Maintenance fees range from about $342-400/month.  You can find this condo complex at 480 Kenolio Road which is only about a block from the ocean. Short term rentals now allowed at Pacific Shores condos on Maui I have always liked the Pacific Shores complex in Kihei Maui, with its 2 buildings and swimming pool.  The location is right across the street from the beach, yet there are plenty of apartments in the back building away from the road and traffic. The Pacific Shores Home Owners Association (HOA) has recently voted to allow short term rentals which is good news for owners and buyers.  Expect to see prices go up.  Generally speaking, a condo that is "vacation rentable" has more value than one which isn't. Hale Kau Kau, loosely translated is "House of Chow" or more formally, "House of Meals".  Aptly named because this non-profit organization provides meals to the needy, shut-ins, and elderly.  And Hale Kau Kau has been doing this for over 20 years, never missing a day.  Based out of St. Theresa's Church on South Kihei Road, they are the only meal program in South Maui, and serve on average 140 meals each day.  The number of meals continues to grow from year to year.  In addition to their mostly volunteer staff they still need our support, and you can provide that in a number of different ways.  One way is to participated in their 13th annual fundraiser this Saturday, March 3.  It is their biggest fund raising event of the year.  The theme is "Music Feeds the Soul", just like their work fe... 02/28/2012
