New listing for sale in Nahiku Maui - it's a jungle out there!No really, it's 3 acres of solid jungle in the middle of almost nowhere, near Hana Maui.  It's also a difficult property to sell due to the terrain, which is steep in places, and low in others, so there is a tendency for flooding in heavy rains. Nahiku Maui is one of the wetter places on the island, and that explains the lush growth of trees such as mango and kukui.  These act as a windbreak even though this is the windward side of the island, meaning there will be a lot of mosquitoes all year round.  I'm not trying to kill a deal, but want any buyers from off-island to understand this location is very unique.  It will appeal to a limited set of buyers who want to be in a remote but beautiful location just minutes from the oc... 03/28/2021

The Ke'anae Congregational Church is located on the Ke'anae Peninsula of East Maui. After being built the church was also given the name Lanakila Ihiihi O Iehova Ona Kaua Church. The Ke'anae Peninsula is a large lava rock peninsula just after mile marker 16 of Hawaii Route HI-360 which is also known as the Road To Hana. Construction on The Ke'anae Church began in the late 1850s and was was completed in the early 1860s. The Hawaii Department of Transportation, the DOT, wants to demolish the old pier in Hana Bay because it could potentially be dangerous. Stop here in Nahiku on your way to or from Hana and grab a bite and some tropical gifts.Nahiku roadside center with food and shoppingWhen you're driving from Paia Maui to Hana Maui it can be a pretty long drive.  You might be getting hungry as you approach Hana and you'll be glad to see this roadside rest stop with a few food stands and a souvenir shop.  It's on the left with lots of parking.  Get a fish taco or some shrimp. Red Sand Beach is one of the unique highlights in Hana Maui, and worth a visit if you are brave enough to walk the narrow trail.  You can find the trail head near the end of Uakea Road in town.  Follow that trail at your own risk and be careful when navigating the steep parts that tower above the ocean.  Just go slowly and don't bring too many things with you.Once you arrive at this beach you will appreciate how lovely it is.  The sand really is red due to the broken down volcanic rock, and it will even be hot to the touch. Keep your shoes on until you get in the water.  Swimming here is fun in the little protected cove.  If you're adventurous, swim out beyond the rocks and do some snorkeling.  You'll see lots of brightly colored tropical fish and you might encounter a sea turtle... but... 05/31/2016

The best tip I can give you if you're taking the Road to Hana tour while in Maui is don't sit in the last corner seat on the bus, but you probably already know that one. One of the big highlights for me on the trip was the visit to the grave of Charles Lindbergh. It was odd because we drove past the gates to homes owned by celebrities and had no desire really to photograph them or care about them, but the cow motiff at the entrance to Weird Al Yankovitc's house was pretty. I had my heart set on taking a photo of the burial site of Charles Lindbergh, and views of the cliffs at the water's edge were all beginning to look about the same.  I don't know why I brought it up at the moment that I did, but all of a sudden I asked whether we were close to the grave of Charles Lindbergh. Thankful for Keanae Maui taro growers who bring us Ono Poi!
