Hanzawa's Variety Store in Haiku Maui - Plate Lunch Specials menu When you're hungry and looking for some food in Haiku Maui, don't forget about Hanzawa's Store on Kaupakalua Road.  There's a great little deli going on in the store, with daily plate lunch specails for $7.99.  Also available every day is chili, and poke bowls.  I tried the poke bowl and it was excellent!  Will definitely get that again! My new best friend - Meet Harley the JRT puppy It's been 5 years since we got our last Jack Russell Terrier puppy, Kona.  What a lot of fun she is. What does it cost to get a septic system pumped out on Maui? Not every home on Maui is connected to a sewer system, and many homes have either cesspools or septic systems.  You might wonder what does it cost to get your system pumped out.  I got a couple of quotes from the experts and here's the deal: Valley Isle Pumping - 808 878-8807         Suck 'Em Up Pumping - 808 877-3934 about $375.00 takes about an hour minimum charge $135, in case they come out and no need to pump must be within 100 ft from the truck or you'll pay extra You should be good for a couple of years or more between pumpings.  If you have a large system and only a few inhabitants, 5 years is not uncommon. The North Shore of Maui is for sale!  Very large parcels available NOW. Pineapple production is dead.  Agriculture on Maui is undergoing some serious changes.  The north shore used to have hundreds of acres under cultivation with pineapples and sugar.  Now most of the pineapple fields are fallow and carved up and being offered for sale.   In the recent past some of these old fields were developed into 2 acre AG subdivisions such as Haiku Makai, and Haiku East.  Nowadays it's not an easy thing to create these 2 acre subdivisions, making it more sensible to sell off large tracts AS IS.  An owner will still be able to subdivide, but 5 acres is the new 2, making for fewer but larger lots in the future, in an attempt to keep this good land productive.
