The guys from the shower door company came in yesterday and installed the floating frame shower glass around the master shower. The question I have, is why does everything have to start with making more holes? In the picture to the right you can see Dave drilling into the tiles. This is where the clips will be attached that will hold the glass. But more holes, really? The tile is really hard and these guys went through several bits to get the job done. It takes two guys to get the glass all placed correctly and set in the metal brackets. To make things worse for them, the inside surface of the glass panels has been treated with a compound that makes it shed water quickly, and is very slippery. I was impressed by the amount of time it took to fine tune all the small adjustments to the pa...

Day 4 has started out well for this week. The kitchen guys just installed the gas cook top. The boss will be happy when she returns home tonight! It is a 5 burner, Merica brand unit, 36" wide I think. We liked this one because it spread out the burners a bit and should give lots of room to work. We also liked the layout of the controls on the front. As an aside, I learned from the kitchen guys that the vent hood, when turned on, will increase the fan speed all by itself as it senses the heat from the cook top increasing. As the heat decreases, the fan speed will slow down. I think it has 4 separate speeds. Now, isn't that cool? So, the few things that are left for the kitchen at this time is developing a punch list for the kitchen guys to finish up. Examples are a bit of paint on one of...

In the continuing saga of the remodel from, well from places we won't speak of, the plumber is now officially DONE! Oh. My. Gosh. While I gave him a huge job to accomplish I did not think it would take almost 7 weeks to complete! But when I think over everything he did, it does make sense. He finished up work in the Master Bath yesterday by installing the oiled bronze overflow thingy and drain in the Jacuzzi. The shower fixtures went up, the oiled bronze toilet handle went on, and the shower valve was secured. Done. The master bath now looks like a designer went in there and threw up. The wallpaper still needs to come down and the floor tiles need to be changed. But that will be next years project. The glass guy was supposed to have the glass surround for the shower by today but as yet ...

The stone cutters showed up bright and early this morning to put a big 'ole hole in the middle of my beautiful new granite counter top! Its Ok, we actually wanted them too. It's where the cook top will reside. The picture at the left shows the cutter guy getting ready. He marks out the space using masking tape. I watched him measure about 20 times. I think I would still be in there measuring if I had to cut someone's granite. The cutter guy uses a diamond blade in a circular hand held saw. After watching for a moment I determined that this is used because it distributes the most and finest dust throughout the house! Even with the second guy holding a shop vac next to the blade the dust was extensive. I think I have whatever the black lung version is with granite now. The blade actually ...

Yesterday was my wife's birthday. We celebrated by going to dinner at a nice local seafood place and by stripping the staircase! If that is not love I don't know what is! Yes, we attacked the staircase last night. The staircase people came by yesterday afternoon and cut out all the white wood balusters. They will be replaced by wrought iron ones eventually. The carpet that was on the staircase was ripped up as well as the old pad. This was a very dirty job. Then all the staples that had been put in to hold the pad had to be removed. I believe that I counted a little over a bazillion of these tough little guys. There were staples holding staples in. Then all the tack strips with the little nails had to be removed. These were nailed down by another bazillion nails. Once that was done, we ...

Yesterday was a good day for the renovation work. The kitchen guys showed up early and worked till about 6:30 last night. They completed about 95% of everything that was left to do including installing the appliances, Trim work, lighting fixtures, painting, and vent hood stuff. Wow, was it great to see when I walked in last night! The plumber also completed most repairs in the master bath yesterday as well. All that is left is for him to finish the shower fixtures and for the dry wall guy to finish up. As you can see from the picture at left, the granite has still not been cut for the cook top. Hopefully that will be done today and the gas cook top installed. There are a few last things for the kitchen guys to do. There is a mysterious wire hanging from the basement ceiling the electric...

Today in the great home remodel, there was a bit of progress...but not much. The trusty plumber came this morning and worked all day. I suspect he may need tomorrow and Friday to complete the Master bath fixtures, but once he does the whole house re-piping of the plumbing will be complete! I will bet that the plumber will be happier even than me to be done with this huge project! The carpet guy came by this morning as well and remeasured the carpeted floors on the main level. This includes the guest bedroom, hallway and great room. Soon as the kitchen people finish up we will begin sanding, staining, and sealing the rest of the wood floors downstairs and re-carpeting. And finally the big news? The appliances arrived today! There was no one from the kitchen company here today to do anyth...

Yesterday the most eventful things that happen were the cook top arrived and the master shower got measured. The cook top was delivered by a guy in a red pickup truck. I wonder if he found it on the side of the road? The shower glass guy did measure and we texted back and forth. The height of the glass will be 80" and the clear glass will be treated with something called Clear Shield. It did not cost much, and if I understand it correctly, will cause the glass to shed water so that it will not require a squeegee to remove water spots. This was my wife's idea and I think it will be great. Today has started out very quiet. The plumber, dry wall guy, and kitchen guys should be here today as well as a delivery of the remaining appliances is due. However, the only this going on right now are...

Every year the Eagle Watch neighborhood puts on a haunted camp out in the playground. People get there early and pitch tents in their favorite places. By nightfall the playground is packed! There is usually a movie shown outside for the kids as well. The adults sit around and rough it, basically in their own backyards! This is one of the many neighborhood events sponsored by Eagle Watch, and I think it is one of the most colorful and fun ones at that. I live about a fairway and a half away from all this fun and I can go outside and hear the fun, but by about 11 tonight it will be ghostly quiet! It looks like extra trash bins are in place this year and when I went up to take a few pictures, the Eagle Watch patrol car was in the parking lot watching over the festivities. All in all this ...

Woodstock GA Pending Home Sales Statistics by Price Range Woodstock GA Pending home sales statistics by price range.  Have you ever wondered what homes are selling in Woodstock GA?  What Cherokee County home price ranges are most sought after?  Well you are not alone, but it is often hard to find this information, so I decided to create a chart to share exactly what homes are selling in Woodstock GA.  Yes mortgage rates are low, but many buyers in this market are being cautious and when purchasing a home are being conservative with their money.  Some Woodstock GA home owners are downsizing selling their large Woodstock Luxury Estate Homes and buying Woodstock GA homes.  Downsizing for many is a way to stretch their budgets and free up more capital for other uses.  It is actually a very...
