With the pretty spring weather contractors were out in force today as the improvements to Tucker's Main street continue.  When finished the new curb, side walks, green areas and signage should make the street a lot more visually appealing. The effort to draw more pedestrians, shoppers and visitors to Tucker has been slowed down by winter weather but we have seen the work force going full bore these last few days. Jennifer Garner is walking the TYSA Soccer fields this week as filming of the Disney Movie "The Odd Life of Timothy Greeen" is underway.  Traffic signs warn that motorists should be prepared to stop between March 21st and March 25th as the Tucker youth Soccer Association soccer fields are turned into a movie set. Parking for Extras, production vehicles and catering have been arranged around the Northlake                     neighborhood at Saint Bedes Church, Northlake Mall and other neighborhood institutions. We looked for Jennifer Garner as we drove by but it looked like everyone was taking a break from filming. DeKalb police are working the scene so don't even think about crashing the film set. Real Estate agents have a reputation that is barely above used car dealers.  Sadly, this reputation was earned over the years by licensed real estate agents who only worried about commission checks.  I learned long ago, it is better to "do the right thing" and the commission checks will come along in due time. Millie has been miserable.  Her miseries started over Labor Day weekend when we visited my husband's parents at their farm in Crabapple.  We had a fabulous day.  Tim did some gardening and Millie enjoyed romping around the yard and pasture with her "cousin" Jigs who is a terrier type dog. We had a big family gathering for dinner, one of those bring a covered dish typ of affairs and my husband Tim did a low country boil with shrimp, sausage, new potatoes and sweet corn.  It was a nice day. When we got home I went to bathe Millie as she was just a bit dirty from romping around the pastures.  When I got her all hosed down I noticed she had a large number of fleas.  Millie occasionally gets a flea or two but nothing like this.  They were crawling all over her. As we returned to our home in Tucker, GA after a nice Memorial Day lunch outing, I noticed a commotion in the flowers alongside our driveway. These are taken from my cell phone, and it's difficult to see the hawk that is in the high flowers by the upper gazing ball. We initially thought he was injured or tangled up in something. Turns out, he had caught himself a small rabbit and was really struggling to get it off the ground. As I move closer, the Hawk manages to drag him to the other side of the yard. He is guarding his prey as I begin to move closer, and eventually moves one more time. At this point he is getting a little tired of trying to move his prey, and as I move closer, he begins to develop more of a defensive posture against me. I do. In fact, it is my favorite sport. Back when I played, my coach told me I was a little small for the game, but that I made up for it by being slow. I understood the joke but didn't think it was very funny at the time. As much as I loved the game, the high school I attended never fielded a very good team. I don't think they have fielded a good team in the nearly 40 years since I attended there either. Flash forward a few years. My kids don't know how good they had it in high school. We moved to Tucker, GA in 1988. I had kids at some grade level in Tucker High School for 22 years. During that time, I believe there was only one season that the Tucker Tigers did not make the playoffs, and they still had a respectable season. Tucker Day this year falls on May 8th. This is the day the unincorporated town of Tucker closes off Mainstreet to everything but foot traffic. Families from all over Tucker & surrounding areas along with the local business community come out and participate in a day full of festivities. Typically there is a stage set up at one end of Mainstreet where live bands perform throughout the day. Vendors with arts and craft booths line both sides of the street. Food and drink vendors are everywhere and I'm looking forward to my funnel cake fix. There are usually helicopter rides throughout the day.
