According to a recent article in the Milton Herald, construction at Bethany High School in Milton will begin soon, and will come in under budget to boot!  The unnamed school will be located by the Publix shopping center on Hwy 9 at the intersection of Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road.  The design of the school will complement the look of Kings Ridge across the street. According to the Herald, the school's construction contract was approved for $45.5 million, $14 million under the original budget projected four years ago, before the economic downturn.  Evergreen Construction will break ground in a few weeks with the opening scheduled for August 2012.  Redistricting should occur well in advance- any student living in an area affected by the change will have the option of staying at Milton Hi...

We recently told you about the Woodstock GA Farmers Market open throughout the summer.  Thanks to The Milton Herald, we've learned about another local Farmers Market, this one in Milton.  Unlike it's organized sister in Woodstock, the Milton Farmers Market began when longtime resident Ginger Enloe was speaking with Ron Wallace, owner of the Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub.  He was a fan of the Farmers Market concept and has allowed the use of nearby property he owns.  Llook for the Farmer's Market behind the Old Blind Dog Pub on Crabapple Road near Birmingham Highway. Have you seen The Silos at Crabapple near the corner of Highway 140 and 372?  There are three silos just off Highway 372.  They are have been there forever (or at least a really long time).  They appear to be built from cinder blocks with faded red metal domed roofs.  Every time I drive by, I wonder about them...who built them, what was stored in them, when were they used.  Know the area was once farm land so I suspect some type of grain was stored maybe as feed for livestock.  Today it is a peaceful respite with benches for relaxing. With little fanfare, the United States Postal Service announced in the summer of 2008 a new zip code for the southern portion of Alpharetta (and a tiny piece of Milton GA) - zip code 30009.  While the zip code was created due to growth in the area, unfortunately there is no new post office available to the public planned for the area. If you've ever been to the existing post office serving Alpharetta and Milton, you'll know there is a serious need for another facility, but it's doubtful one will be built in the foreseeable future.   Though I'm a long-time local resident, I had largely forgotten about the new zip code until writing a recent post about one of my favorite neighborhoods, Providence Oaks, in Milton GA.  I then did some further checking of homes for sale in the zip code 30009...

OK, you've read and heard about Milton GA before and thought, "sounds like a great place- maybe I should live there".  Then you tried to find homes for sale in Milton online with no luck.  Here's why- Milton was incorporated as a city in 2006 from previously unincorporated areas of North Fulton county on the west side of Hwy 400.  Because it's a new city, there is no "official" Milton post office yet serving the city limits.  And in metro Atlanta, your address (and how your home is listed for sale online) is based on what post office delivers mail to your home.       By map, Milton is an odd zig-zag of streets adjacent to Roswell and Alpharetta.  The vast majority of Milton is in the 30004 zip code though there is smidgen of zip code 30075 near Crabapple that is also Milton.
