Magnolia Market Days is this weekend, Saturday November 8th and Sunday November 9th, 2008. It’s a 2-day artist and craft market featuring vendors with handmade jewelry, vintage fabric creations, toys, pottery, packaged food gifts, specialty tea, and other arts and crafts perfect for the holiday gift-giving season. I love giving and getting food gifts. Think about it, you don’t have to clean it, dust it, display it or store it. Consumable things make great gifts. Check out the shopping, raffle prizes, and children's activities. It is a fundraiser for the Junior League of Dekalb County. Tickets are $5 each for a weekend pass in advance or $5 at the door per day. Children 10 and under are free. It will be at the Decatur Recreation Center on Sycamore Street next to the Decatur Library. The ...

There are plenty of great options for condo living in Decatur, GA. List prices as of today range from $12,500 to $799,900. There really is something for everyone. Why live in a condo? You’re busy. You travel or would like to. You want a low maintenance lifestyle. You want the opportunity for social interaction with your neighbors. You do not want to deal with lawn maintenance. You do not want the responsibilities of dealing with exterior maintenance. You want amenities. You are renting now and are ready to stop paying someone else’s mortgage. You want to be part of a community. You are ready to have something of your own. You are ready to downsize and have a simpler life.   As for being involved in your community, that is up to you. What are you doing this weekend?  October is such a great month with lots of Fall Festivals and Events for all to enjoy in Decatur and Metro Atlanta.  Here are some of my picks for the weekend. Martinis and Imax at Fernbank Museum Friday nights are great.  Oktoberfest in Helen, GA, is just an hour and ½ North of Atlanta.  Get out and see the fall foliage! The Decatur Beer Festival on Saturday October 18th has sold out to the first 4,000 people.  But, the whole Downtown Decatur area will be a flurry of activity.  Come anyway and check out the local establishments. Boo at the Zoo at the Atlanta Zoo in Grant Park should be great for the kids.  The Home Show at the Georgia International Convention Center 10/17/2008-10/19/2008. I was out previewing homes today. As a real estate agent in Decatur, GA it's part of my job to know what's out there and available for my clients. Sure, I could lookon-line and I often do. But, I get a better feel for a home and neighborhood by actually being there. I'll take you along on my little tour of homes in Decatur and Atlanta, GA. You can view the map to see the push pin numbered with each location. My 1st stop was a home on Edmund Park Drive off of Rock Springs Rd in Atlanta. It's listed at $759,900. It's a 4 bedroom/4.5 bath home, tastefully decorated and had amazing interior decorator paint. It has a full finished terrace/basement level. This one had a very cozy, OK tiny yard, but what we would expect for in-town living. Home #2 is a newer home with 4 bedrooms/3.5 baths in M...

As a real estate consultant in Metro Atlanta, my job is to ensure that my clients are armed with as much information as possible in order to make an informed decision when purchasing a new home.  I want my first-time home buyers to be 100% comfortable with their decision today... and in the years to come. The most important question for a new home buyer is usually "How much will this cost?"  This may vary from state-to-state, but here is the breakdown for Georgia home buyers: 1)  Earnest Money.............Typically 1% of the purchase price      ** Due when you submit your offer on a home.  The earnest money will be credited towards your  downpayment or closing costs at closing. 2)  HOME INSPECTION...................................$375 - $500 3)  HOME APPRAISAL.............................

Decatur, GA is full of great things to do.  Have you checked out Jazz Nights in Oakhurst Village yet? Every Thursday night in April and September from 7-9 p.m. there are free Candlelit Concerts on the lawn.  Even if it's raining, it's moved indoors to the Solarium.  Concerts are at 321 West Hill St, Decatur, GA in Oakhurst Village which is between downtown Decatur and the Atlanta neighborhood of Kirkwood. Bring your blankets and some picnic food and come enjoy the beautiful evening weather we're having.  Come early and enjoy a drink or get some takeout from one of the restaurants around the Village.  You have your choice of great places to eat. The Universal Joint is across the street, it was a gas station, now it's a bar.  Wahoo Grill is around the corner on College Ave, it's a place t...

Did you know that the City of Decatur, GA has created 6 Informative Walking Tours?  They range from easy 1 mile to what they call challenging 4 mile.  I did the "challenging" 4 mile with my Dad who is in his mid 60's the other day.  The temperature was in the upper 80's so it was kind of hot out.  It is pretty level walking and we managed it just fine.  But, just for fun we stopped for dinner in between at Tesoro the new Mexican restaurant next to Twains at the end of Church St. in Decatur.  We did Tour #3 which they call Sycamore and More.  I actually learned something about Decatur, although I've lived here 12 years.  The first 2 story house ever built in Decatur was in 1830. It's listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It's callled the High House, an appropriate name if y...
