According to an article in this week's North Georgia News, Lake Nottely reached a level of 1,768 feet at midnight on March 7, a level that it normally wouldn't reach until at least mid-April under normal conditions. The top of the gates at Nottely Dam is 1780 feet. The reason for the rapid rise in water levels ids due to a mechanical problem with a broken generator that is used to draw down water. TVA  (Tennessee Valley Authority) is currently using a smaller generator until the large one is repaired. Additional information can be obtained by viewing the article at www.nganews.com. Summer is just around the corner, so higher water levels should make for a gorgeous and full lake just in time for boating season!

At 4,784 feet above mean sea level, Brasstown Bald is Georgia’s tallest mountain peak. A bald is so named because of the dearth of trees near the summit. Unlike the higher mountains of the Western United States, this is not due to being above the tree line but is believed to be the result of severe climatic chances in the high elevations. You can ascend the bulk of the mountain by vehicle, but the last six tenths of a mile requires a rigorous walk along a paved albeit sometimes steep trail. On a clear day, you can see as far the skyscrapers in Atlanta to the south and the Great Smoky Mountains to the north. Brasstown Bald is a great place to spend an afternoon in the Georgia Mountains! If you have never been there, I highly recommend that you plan a trip soon!

Pappy's Riverside Restaurant is located on the Nottely River in Blairsville Ga. This rustic restaurant is known for its Old South Traditional Slow Smoked Bar-B-Que, as well as aged Char Broiled Steaks. But today we were headed to Pappy's for breakfast, and get some of the best pancakes around. Of course that will be on top of our eggs, biscuit, gravy, fried potatoes and plenty of hot coffee for this chilly December morning. They had the fire going, but our favorite place to sit is by the glass windows overlooking the river. Pappy’s Riverside Restaurant serves lunch & dinner and if you stop in on the weekends you’ll enjoy live Blue Grass music while dining. If you’re having a get-together and don’t want to do all the cooking – they do catering and take out too.    Call Pappy’s Riverside...

North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains | Blairsville, Georgia | Union County | Fatz CafeToday, the sun came out and the skies were blue again after eight straight days of rain. Torrential downpours at times with Ellijay getting as much as 4 inches in just a few hours. The North Georgia Mountain creeks and rivers were rolling for sure but we were more fortunate than our neighbors to the south and west of us. Paulding County for example, got as much as 15 inches of rain on Sunday alone. Areas that have never flooded, areas designated as not being in a flood zone flooded. My son's house had a near miss but a long time friend's house wasn't as fortunate. Neither house is in a flood plain. I took a short drive to revamp my spirit and headed to Blairsville for lunch at one of my favorite places, ...

Owner Financing on Homes and Lots IN THE NORTH GA MOUNTAINS:IMPORTANT PROPERTIES CHANGE DAILY SO PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL FOR A COMPLETE AND UPDATED LIST. tHANKS Click here to view properties What is Owner Financing? (aka "Seller Financing") You might be thinking, "Hey, could I just make payments directly to the seller instead of getting a mortgage? Then I wouldn't have to qualify for the mortgage." That indeed could be a good deal, except that owner-financed deals like this are rare. Here's why. The seller has to pay off their existing mortgage before they can sell. Let's say the seller is selling the house for $150,000 house, and they've got $110,000 left on the mortgage. If they sell it the regular way, where you get your own loan from a bank, then $110,000 of the your new mortgage will ...
