The Terraces at Big Canoe are a great part of our overall mountain experience. Recently though great work and co-operation between the Terraces committee, the Developer and various builders a new and expanded facility is planned. For those of you who do not know Big Canoe the Terraces is privately owned by the Big Canoe Chapel. So what does this mean? Next year the concert series will be even better than ever. the facilities will be updated and expanded. The great news is no property owner money is involved. Kudos to all involved in helping make Big Canoe the vibrant community it is . Below is a picture of just one of the concerts the terraces held.

The active community of Big Canoe had its annual Hope House Charity Tennis tournament this past Saturday. I am proud to say that the All Mountain Realty Banner hung on the courts as we were the corporate sponsor. Hope House is a charity dedicated to helping at risk children. It is open 24 hours a day and needs charitable contributions. We raised over 2300 dollars for the charity. We had a good time playing tennis. Thanks to the Tennis shop folks who worked to cater and organize the event. Thanks to Jim Milton Hope House CEO for all his help. And most of all thanks to the folks in Big  Canoe who in these tough times contributed with their check books to make this event a success. The community of Big Canoe is more than a Mountain Getaway destination. With over 10,000 acres and 2300 homes...

One of the great things about the mountains is you never know what you are going to see through a window while working on ActiveRain. I saw these guys and ran upstairs to get the camera. Got them Just as they were leaving the yard. This family has been through our yard before and the cubs are just adorable. This picture is in the gated community of Big Canoe. So if you think gated communities are all about manicured lawns and postage stamp yards think again. The North Georgia Mountains are beautiful . Call your Big Canoe and for that matter North Georgia experts here at All Mountain Realty. For now enjoy the photo.

Take a moment to say Happy Birthday to Linda Carrig here on ActiveRain. Linda works and lives in our North Georgia Mountains . Here are some photos of her party . The Party was on 2 pontoon boats we tied together on Lake Petit in Biog Canoe. We all had a great time as the weather co-operated This is one views from the Lake. You can see the mountain mist rising as the sun sets.                     This is the view on Lake Petit. It was a somewhat misty evening which made it cool and wonderful. Lake Petit in Big Canoe is one of our mountain treasures.

I am sitting in my downstairs office and through the window a shape catches my eye. I baby bear is walking up my back deck steps. I rush for the camera. As I get the camera and go upstairs to catch baby on the deck there is a HUMPFFF. Mama has arrived with cub 2 and is in my driveway. Junior scampers back down the stairs and so I run back down the stairs. Mama cuffs junior as if to say, " You are not supposed to be up there".  Mothers are always looking out for their children. This picture is of them running off into the woods once I came out. You can make out 2 shapes. Not my best bear picture I know. But a good bear event.   Next time I will try to be faster with the camera. This is mountain living , and why we love our North Georgia Mountains

Forbes Magazine released there top ten states to retire in and Georgia made the top 10. Given that prior to this mountain property was the second most popular place to be we thought we should devote a show to retiring in the mountains. Linda and I cover some of the do's and don'ts when considering a retirement home. We hope you enjoy the show and if you are advising folks about moving to the mountains consider working with the folks here at All Mountain Realty. Your browser does not support iframes.

Today we will go over some of the things you can do to protect your home while living in our rural and woodsy areas. 1 Gutters. Keep your gutters clean. Embers that would normally not cause a problem can smolder and flash if you leave fuel in your gutters. 2 Branches. Look around your property if you have branches overhanging your property cut the m off. You do not want fire to spread from a branch to your roof 3 Trees and shrubs Make sure your trees are limbed up about 3 feet. This will keep them from torching if a fire reaches their base. Also keep shrubs a few feet from your house. If they catch fire you will not have to worry about them heating your home. 4 Mulch. Pine straw is probably the worst mulch you can use as it will burn quickly. Try bark or chips that can be wet down and h...

This is an important post for all of you with gas log fireplaces or stoves. A friend of mine rushes home after a panic call from his wife. It is June 85 degrees and suddenly their gas log fire place comes on !!!.  No it WAS NOT some type of home owner timer screw up. The next door neighbor opened his garage door and the remote control set off the remote control on the fireplace !!! This is a COMMON place problem. If you have a remote control gas fireplace  garage door openers or even cell phones can activate the fire place. Now what makes this really scary is that these folks were a week away from going on vacation. So if this had happened a week later the fire place would have gone on. A couple of things could have happened, none of them good. Heat would have built  up and possibly cau...

Looking for a green community to live in? Consider Big Canoe, Here is why I think we are a great choice. We are a mountain community. The other day while driving to a tennis match in our community  I went around a bend in our mountain road and there was a mama bear and 2 cubs crossing the road. This last sentence really says it all. Big Canoe has tennis ,golf, fitness center walking trails and a lot more. But at the same time 1/3rd of the community is set aside green space. We have owls, deer ,bear and great views. We have elevations up to 34 hundred feet. Being South in the Mountains we have fairly mild winters as well as cool summers. So for me who likes green, peace and quiet , BUT also wants things to do and not be isolated Big Canoe fits the mountain life I want. If you are thinkin...

This weeks radio show focuses on folks who are in trouble in their homes. Linda and I discuss different ways you can try to avoid foreclosure . We also talk about avoiding a short sale as well. In other words we want to keep you in your home first. Even though as Realtors we are not financially compensated for much of this information, we believe we are private property advocates first. Enjoy the show

Once again we are having snow in the North Georgia Mountains. I have been here 22 years and have not seen a winter like this. So I am not showing property today that is for sure. But in case you think I am wimping out here is what it looks like where I live. It is really really pretty. But nobody is going anywhere today and by the way it is still coming down The netting you see is Deer netting as we have to keep them off the plants we want to keep. Think you know what gated communities are like. Think again. Enjoy the peace and beauty of the North Georgia Mountains in the gated community of Big Canoe.

Home sales in the mountains so far this year are flat. But a lot of that can be attributed to the more than usual snow and ice. I think this is going to be a great year for mountain sales. Dalton Ga, the carpet capital of America , is starting to rebound and hiring may be back on soon. This will put pressure on prices in the 150000 to 200000 range. People are starting to be able to sell their homes in other areas . This means that mountain property sales , in the second most popular destination, after ocean property,  will start to heat up again. If you are looking to find that mountain home consider the folks at All Mountain Realty. Let us help you find the value you are looking for .
