The University of Georgia is spearheading an initiative to bring a new federal research facility Athens, Georgia. The National Bio Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) would conduct research that protects humans and animals from infectious diseases, whether they occur naturally or are deliberately released. The facility would add to the region's already impressive research expertise, helping the state and the university attract more top-notch scientists and to build on its reputation as a world leader in research that improves and protects animal and human health.
