I recently spoke to a young couple who had been considering buying a home for over a year.  They were paying high rent -typical in a University town - where rents are often higher than a house payment, had decent jobs and were considering starting a family soon.  They had actually looked at houses early summer, but were traumatized!  The process just felt overwhelming, so they quit looking and signed a new lease which is going to expire in a few months.  They called because they decided to "bite the bullet" and try again.  So today we put together a plan of action to help take some of the trauma/drama out of buying their first home.Find a REALTOR® you can be comfortable working with - disclosing all manner of traditionally private and personal information can be uncomfortable - it's cri...

She was lost and showed up in the road in front of our house near Athens, Georgia yesterday.  I kept looking outside and hoping she would travel on down the road, but when she almost got hit, I had to do something!  So into the house she came while my son Chris and his girlfriend Megan and her friend Amanada canvassed the neighborhood and put flyers up at the nearby stores - Is this your lost dog?We have 5 dogs in our family and she was so small and quiet I knew she wouldn't be happy here.  She seemed really dismayed by the hustle of bustle of living with 4 kids, 5 dogs, my loud husband, and who knows how many cats....but at least she was warm and safe.  We posted her on facebook marketplace, checked online lost dog ads, searched the newspaper, to no avail.  But this morning a call to t...

Veterans Day is Sunday, November 11, 2007.  The Federal Holiday will be taken on Monday, November 12, 2007.  My grandfather, Mr. Robert Chandler Ray, proudly served in World War II in the 134th Infantry Regiment.  On Veterans Day, he grows quiet as he thinks of the companions, friends and family he lost during the war.  I am blessed to have an Oral History that my son, Chris DeRepentigny, transcribed as part of a history project, because I was a girl...he didn't like to share his war stories with me. Veterans Day Celebrations in Athens, GA 2007: Write Around Home Luncheon - Friday, November 9, 2007 at 12 noon -  Dan Magill, Captain, USMCR, featured author, will be reading from his new book "High Port! With football season upon us, my husband and I took advantage of a rare free Friday night recently to revisit one of my favorite restaraunts.  Depalma's has three Athens, Georgia dining locations, and dining at any of them is a delight.  However,  my favorite has always been the one located on Barnett Shoals Road (706-369-0085).  We decided to take advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures and enjoy their patio seating.  To start came a half order of the die for breadsticks with spinach and an order of crab cakes.  There have been some great new additions to the menu, so I skipped my favorite entree, freshly made angel hair pasta with alfredo sauce, and ventured out to explore the Insalta Ceceila, a gorgeous mixed greens salad with grilled pineapple, scallops, and shrimp with my new...
