The first gas station ever was just approved for the Acreage in Palm Beach County Florida. This has been a long time coming. In fact, since I moved here to Southern Florida in 1995 there were residents who wanted a gas station in the Acreage. This gas station will be built in the Publix shopping plaza on the corner of Orange Blvd and Seminole Pratt Whitney Road in the Acreage. It is going to be a small gas station with only 4 pumping stations, 2 pump hoses on each side. Publix will be installing a generator at the gas station for after a hurricane hits and power is lost. One of the biggest concerns voiced by the residents of the Acreage in the western section of the unincorporated part of Palm Beach county was that after the hurricanes residents could not get gas without traveling for 1... 10/15/2008

The South Florida Science Museum announces they now have Free WIFI so that when you are there working while your kids are exploring you can open your laptop like I do and get some work done. They also added this really cool infrared lighting system in the aquariums so that you can see the sea life in both the day and the night. The science museum offers great homeschool workshops for children of all grade levels. Our son loves these workshops and had so much going to them last year. He studied magnets, rocks and minerals, solids and gas and other exciting learning explorations. The classes last about 2 hours so if you want to drop your children off you can or you can stay in the class. I like to stay because I love to learn and there is so much to learn. How much fun can a girl have in real estate?  It's not just about the potential income.  Not for me!  Because I'm the local history nut...... it's about helping to buy or sell a historic home - usually in a historic district in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida. So here's the fun part for me.  A potential Seller calls me and is in town and wants to talk about the prospects of selling a family home she owns.  She makes some reference that I, initially, write off as "yeah, sure" about the home having been a church. And it's not in a current historic district. Blink, blink.  Yes, it's true, yet another doomsday story.  This isn't JUST about Real Estate; it's about Florida (yes of course, Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, Flamingo Park.....). When I moved to West Palm Beach in early 1985 I wanted to be associated with a with-in magazine - not a glossy coffee table model-perfect publication; rather a hard-hitting, muck-raking periodical.  I was told this would never happen here.  Why??  Because we were a land of northerners with blinders.  They didn't want to see under the thin, crackling verneer of South Florida.  They only wanted to see the golf courses and palm trees and fishing waters. Please access the lead article in Barron's dated July 14th (but already on the streets) - "Home Prices Are About to Bottom" (subhead). "Contrary to what you've heard, the plunge should stop in many areas by year's end. How a collapse of Fannie and Freddie might help." The article claims that inventories of new and existing homes are falling (didn't I report this in MY immediate West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County area just about a week ago in this blog?)... The article continues to tell you that the supply is homes is still huge, but that at least the trend is in the right direction (inventory down!)
