What a perfect day for kayaking down the Weeki Wachee River in Florida's Nature Coast .  My thanks to Bobbi Glenn for organizing a morning of indulging in Nature's beauty and networking with Realtor friends. What a great opportunity to get together with friends and meet spouses and their children.  We were blessed with an abundance of wildlife viewings, from giant turtles, schools of mullet, Manatees, cranes and a deer! Sunday at the Beach Some things are timeless.  Beaches and the ocean are among those things for me.  While walking along the beach at Pine Island in Hernando County, Florida, I came across this shell of another ancient creature. Someone had found this horseshoe crab shell and placed it on a nearby seawall.  Completely intact, the light was reflecting on the shell and although the living creature had long gone from it, it's still an odd but beautiful example of Florida nature! Throughout the year, the waters in Florida are home to the "Florida manatee".  Widely dispersed along the coastlines and rivers in the summer, these gentle giants of the sea move to warmer waters of rivers, and especially springfed rivers such as the Weeki Wachee River, when winter cools down the coastal waters. Winter in Florida: Steam Rising from Weeki Wachee River This morning, I left the house at around 8:30 AM.  First, I had to scrape my car windows free from ice that had formed over night.  That may not sound like a big deal but when you live in the South, ice scrapers are just not something you know where to find right off hand. As Floridians are complaining about the latest cold spell that has befallen the State, the cold weather also has a beautiful side. Residents of Weeki Wachee and surrounding areas participate every year by decorating their boats and line up at the Weeki Wachee Marina for the parade that moves down the Weeki Wachee River past Rogers Park, through the neighborhoods and ends at the Gulf of Mexico at Bayport.  Entry fee is a new unwrapped toy for the Hernando County Dawn Center (Women's Shelter) or a cash donation.  There is no fee to watch the boat parade either at Rogers Park or at Bayport Pier.
