It seems these days stress is around every corner.  How we meet these challenges determines the quality of our lives.  You may have seen these stress management tactics before, but they bear repeating as we continually attempt to define ourselves in terms of where we are....either in business or personally.  There are pearls of wisdom strewn about....let's harvest them today!  Hope your Monday ends superbly. Stress   A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience,  raised a glass of water and asked 'How heavy is this glass of water?'Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.The lecturer replied, 'The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my r...

As you probably know from my other posts I have a selfish interest in maintaining an awareness of the progress of the Swine Flu.  Rather than just post the link, I'm posting a static shot of the map showing the statistics from around the globe indicating the number of cases, etc for each country as of today.  I will do this once in a while to serve as a benchmark going forward.  Knowledge is power....stay well!  There is a Creative Commons License in place. Titusville Playhouse, Inc.PresentsTHE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG I must confess I didn't know anything about this play.  Thankfully the Internet provides for an instant education in just about anything we need, so here is a brief synopsis.  This play will emote with humorous insight into our quest for love, self-definition and fulfillment, as well as touching on the social and political issues taking place in the 1980's.This Tony winning production, written by Wendy Wasserstein opened in New York in 1992.  It is the story of 3 Jewish-American sisters who meet for a reunion in London for the eldest sister Sara's 54th birthday.  Each sister is forced to examine their lives and how they define themselves.  It's a drama lightened with moments of whimsy and merriment, and while rich in American Jew...

With all the new cases both in the US and around the world, it was impossible to keep all the data organized on the original map.  Dr. Henry Niman using technology provided by Rhiza Labs and Google has supplied us with a the new updated map to track the Swine Flu.  It can be accessed at: http://flutracker.rhizalabs.com/ Not to scare anyone, but it would be wise to avoid complacency.  Here's an excerpt from CNNhealth.com In each of the four major pandemics since 1889, a spring wave of relatively mild illness was followed by a second wave, a few months later, of a much more virulent disease. This was true in 1889, 1957, 1968 and in the catastrophic flu outbreak of 1918, which sickened an estimated third of the world's population and killed, conservatively, 50 million people. So let's be s...

A few days ago I downloaded Internet Explorer 8, and almost immediately started having issues with page loads.  I keep getting the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".  I wouldn't be too bothered if it was just occasionally...but it's almost continual, and really slows the process of getting things done. If I'm persistent and keep repeating the search (or keep hitting the go button) it usually will connect.  It also happens when I'm surfing posts on A|R.  It's almost like I'm being timed-out and it's taking 5-10 times longer getting things done.  It's driving me crazy!  Does anyone have a solution, a change in some setting.....please help if you can.  Has anyone tried IE8 and reverted to IE7 due to bad performance.  Is Active|Rain experiencing any issues which are exa...

HERE'S THE LINK TO THE NEW MAPhttp://flutracker.rhizalabs.com/ By now you are probably aware the WHO (World Health Organization) has raised the alert for this flu to Level 4.  There are 6 levels of alerting, raising the bar to Level 4 is not good news.  UPDATE:  4/30/09,  WHO HAS GONE TO LEVEL 5  UPDATE: 5/1/09, Mexico has delisted the number of deaths from 168 to 12....HUH???Click here to read about the WHO and see and understand their pandemic alert chart     The same precautions you would take for any type of influenza apply here as well.  Most important is covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze combined with lots and lots of hand washing.  There is a Google map which is updated with each new case of Swine Flu.  Keep an eye on your area and if it appears and starts spreading pl...

Those who know me on Active|Rain....know I love taking and sharing pictures Recently I learned that what I was seeing on my screen was not what my friend Debi Boucher was seeing on her screen.  We have lots of conversations about photography and related topics :-)  What happened was over small increments of time, my monitor was getting darker and darker...not noticeable on a daily basis.  I use 2 monitors, and while the secondary one is newer I just love my 4 year old Samsung.  What I want to share here, after much online searching, is the best adjustment calibrator I found.  The last stages are very technical (I avoided them in the essence of time) but there are several stages in the beginning which will help you know if your monitor is doing it's best and will guide you in correcting ...

Every now and again one gets to see or hear something that is uncommonly grand.  I felt this way when I watched "IL Divo" perform Amazing Grace at the Coliseum in Rome.  These 4 diverse opera singers will give you goosebumps when you watch them perform one of the best songs of all times in a setting so appropriate to the selection.  ENJOY! These are not the greatest pictures, but they are my first launch photos!  They're taken from our front yard, no need to even go down to the river, however the views are more dramatic from that vantage point.  This launch has been delayed several times in the past couple of weeks.  Sorry the pics are not better, but they're the first from my new camera and I was anxious to see how they would turn out. Here's another idea to help protect your photographs from unguarded plagiarism.  Earlier we talked about saving your photos in RAW format which records all information about each picture, including date and time stamps as well as your copyright information. Photo 101: Metadata & Your Photo Copyright We learned that as good as you are in photography there is no guarantee that your photos won't be captured and made viral without your knowledge. Photo Copyright Not Protecting ~ CASE Study to prove a point But there is another layer you can put between yourself and the unintentional (or not) "photo grabber".  Very simply, link your photos back to either your blog or website, where the C&P (copy and paste) person will unknowingly be providing a link back to you.  The caveat here is that they...
