Fishing weather once again in Palm Harbor Florida! Yes, it is that time of year once again with temperatures back up in the upper 80's - we went from Winter to Summer in one day without a break for Spring. Nothing is as relaxing as getting out on the boat for the day. Ronnie enjoys fishing and I enjoy the relaxation of taking one day a week off from everything. I can answer the phone and emails on the boat if there is anything that needs to be attended to immediately but otherwise, it can wait until I am back on dry land. The Limpkin is a Florida waterbird. It's range is from northern Argentina all the way up to Florida. Limpkins love the water and their favorite food is the apple snail, found in fresh water.  Limpkins are often seen in the Palm Harbor Florida area, along the shores enjoying apple snails and other molluscs. Snook season opens today in Gulf of Mexico waters off Florida! That is great news for local fishermen!  Snook season will remain open from March 1 through April 30 and then will close once again. Remember that any snook you catch must be at least 28 inches long and not longer than 33 inches in order to keep it legally. During the cold winter months, snook go up into our rivers and creeks to keep warm but once the Gulf of Mexico warms up and our intercoastal waters are warmer, snook start venturing back out of the rivers and creeks. They like it under bridges and out near our mangrove islands in the intercoastal waterway. So my advice to all local fishermen is to get out there and enjoy fishing for snook now that the season is open again in the gulf waters! 02/28/2015

The saying is 'Never smile like a crocodile' but this alligator seems to be smiling! We found him on the edge of Lake Tarpon today, during our early morning walk. The sun was out and this guy was enjoying the Florida sunshine and working on his tan! He was a young gator, about 6 feet long, which is really not very large. 01/26/2015

It was indeed a windy day on Lake Tarpon today as you can easily see in the photo. White caps were on the water and I was pleased that we were taking a walk in the park next to the lake and not out on the boat today! With winds like this, there is no way I would be out in the boat! 01/26/2015

Lake Tarpon and John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida was where we took the boat this morning. We launched the boat at Anderson Park in Tarpon Springs and then crossed the lake to John Chesnut Park.  Years ago, before there were boat ramps at Anderson Park & John Chesnut Park, people used an old (now non-existant) boat ramp that was next to East Lake Road. The natural canal led into Lake Tarpon and today Ronnie wanted to show me that canal. Since he grew up in Clearwater (I grew up in South Tampa), he remembers using the old boat ramp. The canal to where the ramp used to be is a bit of Florida at it's best: in it's natural state! As we slowly went up stream, we enjoyed the peace and quiet surrounding us.
