Yesterday afternoon I went to the Good Apple Equine Consignment Store in Ocala, Florida, to take some pictures and video for a blog post. The Good Apple Equine Consignment Store is a fantastic all discipline equine consignment store which I will post more about tomorrow, including a video. On the way home from the Good Apple Equine Consignment Store, I was too close to Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in Ocala not to stop in for a cup of ice cream to cool me off. It was almost as good as an Active Rain featured post! They (featured posts, NOT cups of ice cream) are few and far between for me. We were immediately and pleasantly greeted by Danny Harsh (even though it was hot as heck in Ocala). If you are curioius about Friesians (they are [almost] always black): ”The Friesian is probably best known for its black color and luxurious mane, tail, and ‘feathers’ (long, untrimmed hair on the lower legs). The official breed rarely has white markings of any kind, because registries allow only a small star on the forehead for purebred conformance. Though extremely rare, Friesians are sometimes chestnut, these horses can not be registered. “Fire Magic” is an example of a chestnut Friesian.” We have rodeos in Ocala too! Glimpses of Ocala, its horse farms and rolling hills, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets... the pastures are lush, green, and thick with grass, and mares are becoming obviously heavier in foal. The local farmer’s markets are gearing up for the fall crops and more fall vendors; events such as the “Run for 911″ at Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club are drawing crowds; and every now and then there is a tease of fall in the air. Knee deep in grass in West Ocala horse farm country, this friendly mare’s mouth was wet from dew on the grass, her face was brushed with sand… and she was beautiful in the early morning sun. It is not only the horse farms and horses that I love in Ocala... it's the events and the cowboy culture that tighten my girth. This year's performances at the 2010 Ocala Shrine Rodeo were absolutely terrific. When I noticed these chaps hanging before Friday's festivities began, I couldn't help but wonder who would be slipping into them for a wild bull ride. The second photo answers that question! Original posted on Ocalalicious. Ocala’s North Magnolia Merchants Farmers’ Market had a cage full of baby quail Friday morning, and it was all I could do not to bring a few home. It has been ages since I have heard the sounds of quail outside. Predators have diminished the quail population, and Darius Lewis wants to bring them back to Ocala. The babies were for sale for $5.00 each. Please contact Darius at 352-598-4862 if you want some of your own.
