One of the South's most celebrated festivals. The mullet is a fish that inhabits our local waters.  Mullet are a vegeritian fish, they think they can fly always jumping and they are the only fish that have a gizzard like a chicken.  Local fisherman catch them with cast net's.  Fresh fried they are delicious.  The seafood festival starts on Oct 17-19. More than 40,000 hungry mullet fans will consume up to 10 tons of this humble fish this weekend.  There will be all types of food including seafood, international, Cajun, good old country cooking and my favorite boiled peanuts.  The festival caters to families with great shopping, hand crafts, youngsters entertainment, clowns, Army Ranger reptile exhibit and Big name entertainment. Headliners this year are Sara Evans, Rodney Atkins, and Jas...

Home Owners Insurance for homes in Florida is becoming a challenge, but it is not impossible.  Expense is the biggest concern for property owners and potential buyers.  A Real Estate Agents may have several contacts that people can call to get quotes for the property or buyers or homeowners can call the Company they normally use.  The Insurance agent will have questions about the age of the home, the size of the home, what type construction (wood, brick or vinyl), where the nearest fire department is etc., so be ready to answer some questions. Also, in Florida there is a new state law that entitles homeowners to a Free Windstorm Inspection that you send your homeowners insurance policy holder the results of and most of the time, they will decrease your premium.  In the panhandle you can...

The Niceville Chamber of Commerce is one of the best ways to get involved in the community, especially if you have a small business. We are dedicated to growing our community by the people who get involved. Whether you just moved here or have been here for a while, get involved. There are several committees to get you started. When I first became a member, I started with the Ambassador's Committee which is the face of the chamber. I also got involved with the Buy the Bayou Auction, the Mid-Bay Bridge Run, and the Membership committee. Check out their website for more information!    www.nicevillechamber.org

For anyone looking into Real Estate in the Panhandle of Florida, we have a great secret here in Okaloosa County.  We are growing, but a lot of people still think Disney World when they think Florida.  Niceville is across the Choctawhatchee Bay from Destin, Florida and residential neighborhoods abound.  Okaloosa County schools rank tops in the state.  Niceville is great for families, retired folks and any combination.  Minutes from the beaches, but close to marinas for launching sail boats or large leisure crafts.  This is a great place to call home. I am the specialists in the area, stay tune for more details in future blogs.

There is nothing I like better than helping a young family purchase their first house.  It's right up there with finding a home that is a fantastic deal.  And when I have the opportunity to put the two together, it reinforces why I got into real estate in the first place.   However, more often than not when I walk into a home and smell "equity!".  My buyers smell "dog".  They see grass that needs to be cut, a tub that needs to be scrubbed,  spots on the carpet, an ugly front door, and my all time favorite "a dead bird on the deck".  I have the hardest time convincing my buyers to open their eyes and see past that house that doesn't show well.  Give those good bones some credit!Buy the worst house in the best neighborhood.  This may seem like an odd concept.  Why would you want to buy th...

After months of intense preparation and fundraising, the Niceville High School Eagle Pride Band greeted 2008 with a march through Pasadena, CA in the 119th Tournament of Roses Parade. The band's performance was televised on NBC, ABC, Univision, HGTV, Discovery HD and the Travel Channel. Band Director Dan Wooten received dozens of text messages from friends and colleagues around the US, congratulating the band for its stellar performance. "I'm not sure words can describe what it felt like going down the parade," he said. "I felt a rush of huge pride and I felt blessed to preside over a group as good as ours. When we got to the grandstands where about 250-300 chaperones and boosters all in Niceville maroon leapt to their feet and started screaming, there were a number of kids in the band ...

Niceville, Florida is a community located in the Florida Panhandle of Northwest Florida. Sitting on the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay, it is located just across the Mid-Bay Bridge from Destin, Florida and is centrally located to Fort Walton Beach, Florida and Crestview, Florida.  Eglin, AFB is also located in Niceville, and therefore we have a large proportion of Military Families who relocate to this area.  The mild winters and close proximity to the shopping and beaches of Destin Florida, also make this area a popular real estate destination for second homeowners wishing to escape the harsh winters of their permanent residence.  While there are many indoor and outdoor activities to recommend to anyone contemplating a move to the Niceville Florida area, I chose what I considered the top...

Jennifer in here weekly tips from countrywide sent this over If anyone is ever searching for the information on having there water tested this sounds like a good idea.  On a property which is not connected to public or city water, you will need to get a water test and a septic inspection.   The water test can be done for about $30 very quickly by picking up a water kit from Analytical Services Corp in Niceville  (678-5313).  You can take the kit, test your water and return it to Analytical Services and they will have an answer within 24-48 hours. The septic inspection runs about $225 and can be obtained through almost any septic company.
