I closed on a home this spring that was a short sale. Of course we started in July of 2010. The buyers sister was fighting cancer and lost her battle in August 2010. August 24th was her birthday. I have been trying for 413 days to get this sale approved and finally got the approval letter from Bank of America. This is a beautiful single family pool home in Key Colony Beach. The debt on the home was over $1.3 million and due to the current down turn the value is only about $900,000. We were finally able to get Bank of America to approve the sale at $900,000 resulting in a loss to them of over $400,000. Fortunately, they did not ask the sellers to sign and notes or make any contributions to the sale. We handed out over 600 sets of bright pink Mardi Gras beads, 200 drink Koozies, hundreds of magnets and gave away, for free, two lovely gift baskets.
