March means spring in Jensen Beach. Not that I ever closed my windows this winter but March brings beautiful breezes. I planted my flower beds with vegetables this year, really my children made me plant vegetables. So now I am growing snap peas, cucumbers and basil next to the pineapple plants, opps almost forgot the sunflowers. (The pineapple should produce fruit sometime this year???) Of course my children picked the eatables that went into the garden so it's more of a fruit and vegetable garden... The first day of spring was great we did not get one flake of snow unlike my Mother who was on Long Island -- sorry Mom. The Jensen Beach St. Patrick's Day Celebration & Parade was fun. Formerly known as the Pineapple Capitol of the World.   History tells us that the Ais Indians were the original inhabitants around the 1500's.  Occasionally one can run into ancient Ais burial mounds with ancient Indian artifacts.  The Elliot museum in Stuart has an extensive collection of these items, as well as other Florida native Indian artifacts from around the State.  Modern Jensen Beach history began in the late 1800's when John Laurence Jensen settled on the land that now bears his name.  He and other settlers began planting and raising pineapples in large pineapple plantations, thus getting Jensen Beach's boast of being the ‘Pineapple Capitol of the World'.  By 1895, the area was shipping over 1,000,000 boxes of pineapples a year.
