Hello Folks, you may have caught some of my previous posts which highlighted unusual mailboxes that can be found in our part of Florida (S.W. Florida - Ft. Myers & Naples). Anyway, While I was out driving about, I came across some additional unusual mailboxes and here they are..... The wild looking mailbox to the left is by far my Favorite to date. It was carved from a Palm Tree, upside down with the trees roots used as the hair. The mailbox to the right is that of a Carved Tree Also. It is made to resemble a Manatee.          Here are a couple different samples of Manatee Mailboxes. The one to the left with the baby Manatee is quite cute.        Here is one of a Pelican holding a Snook in it's beak. Very interesting and probably my second best favorite.Personally, I would be afraid of t...

Bonnie is a free spirit. We met her soon after we moved from Naples some nine years ago. She was raised in NY and her family relocated to Naples in the 70's. But Naples for all its beauty was not her style and she opted for the Old Florida life style of Fort Myers Beach some 25 years ago.It was pretty wild then. Now its party wild partly conservative. Her garden shows part of that laiser faire attitude. No pesticides there.Every plant is let in its natural environment. Some years the bougainvilleas, banana trees, buttonwoods were so grown and palms where so high and wild that only part for the home could be seen from the street. We have been invited numerous times to barbecues and open fires ( with permits!) in her back yard with her boy friend, another full fledged eccentric wi...

Southwest Florida is full of fabulous restaurants. From Marco island up into Fort Myers you can find an endless supply of quality places to eat and you can expect to pay for the good food. Although we have great restaurants, many of these eateries are a bit pricey, but HEY.... We are located in a resort area and like most resorts, things are a bit more expensive. My favorite restaurants are those with outdoor eating and great views. Pilar & I just recently learned of another great restaurant which offers both.... Good Food and a Great View. Parrot Key Grill at Fort Myers Beach. I'm amazed that we had not heard of this place previously because they have been rated as 'The Best Waterfront Restaurant" for Southwest Florida every year since 2003.This was a very nice restaurant with lots of...

Off -island visitors to Fort Myers Beach will still be able to " Park and Ride " the beach shuttle but the popular shuttle will no longer benefit from having a dedicated  " Shuttle Only " lane over the bridge.  Ridership is up and visitors and businesses alike generally support the shuttle operation.  State officials decided not to make a temporary   " Go ahead" lane permanent due to concerns about needed safety upgrades on either end of the Matanzas Pass Bridge.  This means that visitors will still be able to avoid parking hassles on the beach but probably experience longer wait times as shuttles now will wait in line with other beach bound traffic.  Budget restrictions also were responsiblr for a reduction from 6 trollys to three.  This will add to expected problems in getting to a da...

I have known Captain David Richardson for over 8 years. He used to anchor his 42' yacht on the back bay not far from our home. His wife would walk our street in Fort Myers Beach to work with her cool mutt Rusty and my wife and her would exchange island news and talk about her dog as he is 15 years old.  What he really loves is sailing. He charters his yacht year long. This is Florida chartering at its best.It is his passion. He makes Fort Myers Beach sailing a smooth and laid back adventure. There is no rush with Captain David Richardson.      We chartered his yacht a few times for a day with some friends and it was a treat. We took off towards Sanibel and  Pine Island Sounds and the other time we went to Bonita Springs and Naples.Captain David has over thirty-one thousand...
