The oil spill is beyond tragic, but the media is in its true fasion making matters worse.  By listening to the cable news networks, you would think that our Florida beaches are filled with oil, that our sugary white sand has turned black.  Just yesterday, my wife returned from the gym and told me of a coversation with a woman who works at the Chamber of Commerce.  The poor lady couldn't wait to leave work, as the telephones did not stop ringing.  Those calls were all from people inquiring as to the state of our beach.  They had heard that oil was flooding in. Thankfully, this is not the case.  Fort Myers Beach, Florida, is clear, as are all of the beaches in Southern Florida. There seems to be some success over the last couple of days with dealing with the spill.  We can all only hope t...

This post is in response to a request from a Realtor site I monitor.  The request was for active agents from across the country to provide a written description of our local and/or state market.  This report will focus on Southwest Florida. The Southwest Florida coast has long  been considered prime real estate both for tourists visiting the Sunshine state and for those looking to own a piece of paradise !  In our market we have seen the buyers climb on the fence and wait patiently for the last 35 months.  They were content to watch the market come to terms with itself and let market forces settle.  Real estate is cyclical afterall and savvy buyers knew that after finding the bottom there would be a window of opportunity !  Here, in Fort Myers Beach, we have seen prices start to firm up...

This is the most recent NOAA projection for the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  While ocean currents, wind and weather make projecting the future path of the spill a bit tricky the map clearly shows the ever growing mass of the spill. While Fort Myers Beach seems a long ways away our local response teams have been busy preparing for a problem which may never come.  Federal, state and local agencies are in constant communication.  Emergency supplies, contingency plans and early response orders are in place.

Public meeting to discuss the oil spill held on Fort Myers Beach.  Tuesday evening at 5 Pm an open meeting was held at the Pink Shell to discuss the oil spill and how it might effect Fort Myers Beach.  Approximately 250 people attended the meeting held in the Grand Ballroom at the Pink Shell.  Participating in the meeting were members from the state of Florida, Fort Myers Beach Town Manager - Terry Stewert, Dept of Environmental Protection ( DEP ), Chamber of Commerce and others. The extent of the spill and the potential for reaching our shoreline was discussed.  The consensus was that the earliest we might experience any oil or " tar balls " would be May 24th.  Panel experts felt the " loop current " in the Gulf of Mexico would carry the spill in a southerly direction toward the Florid...

Snowing? Yea right! It got you looking! Yes it is warmer in Fort Myers Beach. Much warmer.  I have now changed my schedule. Wake up earlier and take a stroll or a short jog on the beach. Its better this way, otherwise the humidity rises after 11 a.m. We have more energy this way. Quite a few have the same idea. Its no secret. They just start their lives earlier. As a night owl its an adjustment but it feels good to have done so much by mid morning. Otherwise I would be like a lizard and sleep somewhere in the afternoon in the shade. I have a feeling that summer in Fort Myers Beach will come pretty soon. Some say its already here!It is time to swim again!      It rained on and off on Estero Island the last couple of days and it rained on my desk continually.  We needed the rain anyway and now the grass is growing faster and the island is back to its normal state. Its warm during the day and in the low 70’s at night. As for my desk, it looks like an organized mess. I did try to log in most of my data online or on a exterior drive. We all try to be greener and waste less paper but the reports and other flyers still build up colored piles.I am not complaining. Its a good thing to be busy. Still, It is an overdue moment to take a time out. It is time to get out of the house. This time I don’t have to show a property and I don’t need to drive. Its a simple feeling.    Now the sky is almost cloudless and the blue covers Fort Myers Beach with the...

As everyone around the world has probably heard, we had an unusually cool winter in Florida.  I'm glad that it's finally gone to the record books.  In its wake, there is a vibrant garden.  I've never seen the hibiscus so alive and colorful.  The Jasmine are now out. They bloomed a little late this year, attributable to the cool winter, no doubt.  Other flowers also thriving in my garden currently are beach sunflowers, blanket sunflowers, bougainvilleas, orange jasmine and a variety of wildflowers. For those Realtors with listings lacking gardens, pictures are worth thousands of words on contracts.

It was about time. The Congress finally approved a new legislation to extend the National Flood Insurance Program until the 5/31/2010. It is as of now a Provision and the plan is to pass a Bill which would be extended through December 31, 2010. Like any other states, Florida buyers who were required to get a Flood Insurance can get a Florida Flood Insurance and close on their new home. Any application which were signed during this hiatus will be covered and business will be back as usual. The House Financial Committee Services is working on a Bill which would become a longer lesgligation  and would also be restructured  and reformed. We certainly don’t want this hiatus to happen again!   As a large part of the US Economic recovery is highly based on our Real Estate soundness which in ...

I wasn't born on Fort Myers Beach but I got here as soon as I could !   Actually, we moved here from Michigan about 5 years ago.   It is the next step on our journey.  Fort Myers Beach is a barrier island a little over 8 miles long and hugs the southwestern coast of the sunshine state.  Culturally diverse, friendly and laid back it has a rythem all it's own.  Many of our rental customers come back year after year.  Some decide to own a piece of our island paradise.  Thats where I can help. Estero Island, our other name, has grown up and is recognized as a premier destination for visitors from all over the world.  Part of our attraction is the many diverse festivals which have become part of the fabric of island life.  All are family friendly and take advantage of our beaches and abundan...

structure The resident and the government of Fort Myers Beach can pat themselves on the back. For the 5 the year in a row Fort Myers Beach has been recognized as a tree city. This national recognition is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State foresters and the USDA forest Services. It is a big deal as leaves filter the air and improves the air we and our fellow animal breath. We have long known that landscaping improves the value of a property and trees such as our dozen of palms and Floridian trees will give that necessary curb appeal.        Been greener has a tremendous amount of benefits.they also provide the much to dozen of species who provide for their new born  and the environment conducive for a nest.     It is also a great w...
