The city of Dunedin is researching the alternative to building a new biosolid treatment plant that would be less expensive and beneficial for both the city coffers and the environment. The city recently applied for a $2.6 million grant to test a space age technology. This new technology would transform the biosolid sludge into an alternative fuel. The city would have to match the grant with $100,000. of it's own funds in order to have the biosolid treatment system called Plasma Arc Flow built. The system would be built by a Tarpon Springs firm called MagneGas Corporation. The system would be ready to begin operation in September 2010 and would run for 12 to 15 months and then go through a period of evaluation. More and more communities are getting on the eco band-wagon and I am pleased t...

There are many little islands off the coast of Dunedin. They are nesting grounds for local birds and most of them are off limits to humans. This is a great big PLUS for the environment! People do not need access to every little island in the bay! We need to protect the wildlife!!Passing by these islands on a sunny afternoon out on the water you wonder what type of animals and birds are making the place their home-Boats go past on their way to the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico and a day of fun on the water! If you get close enough to the islands, you find seagulls and other birds along the shore searching for their supper in the receding tide.Just another day along the Gulf of Mexico in sunny Florida - a typical Fall afternoon!

It recently came to my attention that there is a local movement to Save Dunedin's Historic Fenway Hotel, located on beautiful and historic Edgewater Drive in Dunedin, Florida.  I can remember from my earliest childhood the drive down Edgewater, the uniquely 'Florida' look of the tall King palms which still line the drive, even after losing a few in the hurricanes which ravaged our coast a few years back. One of the most memorable structures still standing along this lovely drive is the Fenway Hotel--built in the 1920's, and opened to the public in an historic first-time broadcast by WGHB (now WFLA, still in service today). The Fenway has every right and reason to be preserved, just as it's infamous predecessors the Belleview Biltmorein Belleair, the Vinoy near downtown St. Petersburg, an...
