Crystal Beach Florida's 7th annual Chili Cook-Off will be taking place in Live Oak Park on the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 12 noon - 4 pm. This is one event the entire community loves. It is a chance to taste some unusual forms of chili, such as venison chili! There will be prizes, raffles, food, beer & wine and even a bounce house. Three Rooker Island off the coast of Crystal Beach Florida, was our destination for a picnic lunch and an enjoyable couple of hours this past week. There is nothing like being able to take off for a few hours of rest and relaxation. Packing a picnic lunch and loading everything into the boat doesn't take long and then we are on our way out to Three Rooker. The map below is from Google Maps. Three Rooker Island was only a sandbar a few years back but the wind and waves decided to form another barrier island here, protecting Crystal Beach Florida from the Gulf of Mexico. This narrow but long barrier island is partially marked off for bird nesting but there is still plenty of room for humans to enjoy the white sandy beach and the green-blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We do indeed have our share of sharks around here and today's photo is a bonnethead shark.  Ronnie caught this guy on a pin fish while we were out fishing today. We actually saw three good size tarpon swim within twenty feet of the boat! They were after mullet and today Ronnie did not bring his cast net, so no mullet for bait. We got out on the water around 7 am so that we could be back at the boat ramp by a little after one. That makes a great day on the water before the heat of the day sets in! 06/16/2014

Crystal Beach Ibis are enjoying a hearty breakfast of bugs and worms as they walk around the yards here in Crystal Beach Florida. The Ibis is one of my favorite birds, with their long curved pink beaks and pint feet. This is the daddy snook, caught off Crystal Beach Florida yesterday! It was 38 inches, too long to keep IF it was in season, which it isn't, so it was a case of photograph and release.   Ronnie loves fishing and yesterday he caught two giant snook, one only two inches smaller than this beauty. Three Rooker Sandbar off the coast of Crystal Beach Florida is a beautiful sandbar north of Honeymoon Island State Park. This was our destination yesterday and the weather was perfect! On weekends, this sandbar and the water off shore is full of visitors, boats, canoes and paddleboards. For this reason, we always go during the week, when there are only a couple of fishing boats in the area. Much of this natural sandbar is marked off as designated bird nesting area and trespassing is not allowed, however, the beach area is perfect for bathing and bringing a lawn chair to enjoy the view and the constant breeze. Snook Season ends May 1, 2014 and opens again September 1, 2014. The good news is that although snook season is ending here on the Gulf Coast on May 1st of this year, it is reopening in a few months! Snook is a beautiful fish that loves warm waters. With the unusually cold winter we had this year, the snook have stayed up in streams where it is warmer. It illegal to catch them in a net, it must be on a fishing line with a hook. There are also size limits and one per day per person. With the water as cold as it has been (it is around 73 in the water right now) the chances of catching one these last few days that snook season is open are pretty slim. Spring means the Gulf of Mexico waters and Clearwater's intercoastal waterway off Crystal Beach Florida are warming up again! I love this time of year because we can go swimming once again and our favorite fish are making their way back down from the creeks to the open water. What better way to spend a day then fishing and taking time to land on one of the many little islands that separate the Clearwater intercoastal waterway from the Gulf of Mexico for a dip in the refreshing clear waters? Crystal Beach Florida has weather up toward 80 degrees for the next couple of days and that means that it is time to catch some fish once again! This winter has been too long and too cold for my blood. Granted, we did not see snow or freezing temperatures but it was in the high 30's a couple of days this winter and in the 40's more often than is normal.  Today and tomorrow will be boating days! Time to catch some fish once again, off the shore of Crystal Beach Florida, out near Honeymoon Island State Park - but off shore. It is time for the appraisal on a home my clients are purchasing so it is also time to prepare the package for the appraiser. Since my daughter, Corinna, is new to the business, I asked her to prepare the package and email it to me for review. She needs to learn how to do these and practice makes perfect. I reviewed it and tweeked it by adding a couple of pages that showed 'sold price per square foot' to the list along with averages of sold price per square foot. With this list, the LOWEST average came out to more than what we offered for the house. There should be no problems with the appraisal. It is always good to have a package to pass on to the appraiser and they are generally appreciative for the input. 02/20/2014

Ronnie is out fishing today, just off the coast of Crystal Beach Florida, a place where you can go fishing year round! That is why we love living down here. The temperature will be around 78 for a high and there is a little sea fog right now but it should burn off in an hour. Hopefully there will be fresh fish for dinner tonight - perhaps a red fish as in this photo. Crystal Beach Florida is right on the shore of St Joseph's Sound, which leads out into the Gulf of Mexico with all of the abundant varieties of fish that are there!
