Art Festival in Cocoa Beach this weekend!   It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving on Cocoa Beach without the annual Space Coast Art Festival.   This year the Art Festival runs from November 22nd to November 25th. The festival starts at 7:30a.m. on Thanksgiving morning with a 5k Turkey Trot at Baliwick Mall on Brevard Avenue in downtown Cocoa Beach.   The art show will be held on Saturday from 9a.m.to 5p.m. and on Sunday from 10a.m. to 5p.m. This is a juried art show that attracts artists from across the country.   There will be face painting for the children, live entertainment and vendors will be selling food and beverages. This year we arrived a little late for the air show, so I had to resort to takiing photos of bikinis and surfers :-) The fly-bys just south of Shepard Park were higher and less frequent than in previous years. The real action took place just south of us at Lori Wilson Park and everyone thinks this was intentional in order to make people pay for grandstand seats or beach access. Last year you could get great shots on a free beach for miles around. A number of residents were not impressed considering the amount of tourist dollars this event brings into the area each year.  A Cocoa Beach Legend went to Tiki Heaven on Tuesday, 9/5/2012 of an apparent heart attack. Wayne Coombs opened Mai Tiki Studio and Gallery in 1973 and I couldn't begin to count all the homes and businesses his art is an integral part of. I spoke with him several times at art shows and in his studio where I took the photo below. The first thing you noticed were his big hands, wide smile and booming voice. I don't know of anyone who added as much color and originality to the Space Coast. Dine in or take out at Anacapri Pizza in Cocoa Beach, Florida Anacapri Pizza has been a landmark in Cocoa Beach for many years. One of the unique things about Anacapri is that they do not deliver...it is dine in or takeout only. I didn't win at horseshoes but it was another Saturday night of great music at Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach, Fl. That's me second from the right with The Highway 1 Band. The members are: Mark Woolley, drums and vocals, Joel Thomas, guitar and vocals and Terry Wallace, bass and vocals. I played my harmonicas and added vocals to their "Trop Rock" sound.  It's Papa Vito's for Pizza in Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral, Florida Papa Vito's is located along A1A between Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral in what locals know as "unincorporated Brevard County" but the post office calls it Cape Canaveral. On the nights that I work late and don't want to cook, I am a frequent customer of Papa Vito's. Papa Vito's is a family business and Billy, the owner, is usually there making their famous pizza and supervising the kitchen.  There is usually a family member working the counter taking orders, dispatching the delivery drivers, seating customers in the dining room and, in general, keeping things running smoothly.
