I blogged earlier this week about the SpaceX rocket from the Cape on Thursday evening. Well, the weather here on the Space Coast wasn't cooperating and the launch was postponed until this evening. The launch window remains at 6:46pm. The weather is beautiful today albeit a bit on the cool side (65 degrees as I write this), so, as things stand right now, I would expect a launch in approximately another 6 hours

After several postponements of the Atlas V rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, the launch finally  happened today at 4:44pm. The ISS is receiving much needed supplies, a medallion blessed by the Pope, fresh fruit and Christmas presents for all 6 members on the International Space Station are included in the supplies. For those of you who have never seen a rocket launch from the Cape below is a short clip for you to see.

Well, perhaps the third time is a charm as they say. Yesterdays launch of an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral was again postponed due to weather. The rocket is a commercial re-supply launch to the ISS and includes such things as scientific experiments, food and Christmas presents for the crew of the International Space Station. Today's launch window starts at 4:44 pm and has only a 10 minute window. Barring any sudden weather changes, I think today is the day as it is a calm, picture perfect day on the Space Coast!

Well it has happened again. Today's Atlas V launch from the Cape was scrubbed due to high winds. The launch has been re-scheduled for tomorrow with the launch window of 30 minutes opening at 5:10pm. The weather gods may be on a tear again tomorrow as we are only seeing a 30% chance of the launch occurring. Stay tuned, I will let you know!

There is another planned launch from Cape Canaveral next Friday June 26th at 11:09pm. A Dragon spacecraft will be sent to the International Space Station (ISS). This launch is delivering food and supplies which include science experiments and research for the ISS crew. Also on board will be one of two adapters that will help with future docking of spacecrafts including the Boeing CST-100.This will also be the third time that the rocket will attempt a landing on a platform barge floating in the Atlantic Ocean off of the coast. If successful, the Falcon 9 rocket will slow down from 2900 mph to 559 mph and then finally to 5 mph when the landing legs with deploy. The platform is 300 by 100 feet in size so landing specifications have to be pretty accurate. However, to date, SpaceX has succes...

OK Space Coast peeps,we can look forward to another exciting launch from the Cape this week! An Atlas V rocket is scheduled to go up on Wednesday morning from Cape Canaveral. The launch window will open at 10:45am, and there is a 60% chance of the  weather cooperating. If the X-37B mini-shuttle fails to launch on Wednesday, there is a 30% chance of a Thursday launch. A dear friend is coming into from Denver on Thursday, I kind of hope for a delay so that she can experience a launch live and in person!

A different type of launch than usual occurred this morning from Cape Canaveral. Elon Musk's SpaceX aerospace company launched a Falcon 9 rocket at 9:00am today with a dummy aboard nicknamed "Buster". The Dragon capsule fired 8 SuperDraco engines in a test that could push human astronauts from danger if a Falcon 9 rocket is ever in danger of exploding. The capsule jettisoned and main parachutes deployed to drop the test vehicle to a splashdown in the Atlantic ocean about a mile off the Cape. Boats were able to recover the capsule with Buster safely aboard. To see a video of the launch, click below!

If you haven't had an opportunity to see a rocket launch, you may want to see the replay of the Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station FL last night. It was incredible. There is absolutely nothing like experiencing a rocket launch. Watching it is beautiful. It's amazing that man has been able to build something so incredible. We can feel the ground rumbling under our feet and the windows in the house shake.  Watching a rocket launch is the experience of a lifetime! Space Coast Falcon 9 Launch, I've included the link to the video here. My apologies as I couldn't embed the video directly in the post.

It was an exciting day in Port Canaveral yesterday. There were 6 cruise ships in port. Reports indicate that over 40,000 people got on or off a ship, or spent the day in Port Canaveral! Port Canaveral is hoping to be the #1 port someday... even bigger than the port of Miami. We had a great time at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill! It was a perfect afternoon! Port Canaveral is located in Cape Canaveral Florida. The ships that were in Port yesterday included the Carnival Sunshine, Carnival LIberty, Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas and the Disney Magic.

NASA has announced the new launch date and time for the DSCOVR mission which will blast off from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The new date and time is tomorrow February 10, 2015 at 6:05 pm.  Mind you the weather on the Space Coast has been quite rainy today, so there is no assurance that tomorrows plans will actually go through. To see a video from NASA on DSCOVR click here. Let's wish NASA "Good Luck" on this latest launch attempt!

On Thursday I wrote a blog regarding the impending launch of the rocket carrying DSCOVR into space from Cape Canaveral.  Well, as I was waiting for the always spectacular view of the launch, it was announced that the launch was scrubbed.  We are not have any nasty weather right now, so, there has to be another mechanical reason for the scrub.  As soon as the launch is rescheduled, I will let you know.

This Sunday, February 8, 2015, will be our next opportunity to witness one of the great wonders of the Space Coast.  The Deep Space Climate Observatory also known as DSCOVR, is planning to launch from Cape Canaveral at 6:10pm.  DSCOVR will be handling the country’s real-time solar wind monitoring capabilities.  This is critically important for NOAA’s reporting of weather alerts and forecasting.  To see a clip on DSCOVR see below!

Another rocket launch is set for Tuesday evening at Cape Canaveral. An Atlas V rocket is planned to blast off at 7:43 p.m. on Tuesday.  There is a 44 minute launch window, so that time can vary some. The rocket will have 5 solid rocket boosters and a Russian RD-180 engine that will put out 2.5 million pounds of thrust. This launch will carry a Navy satellite into space.  The launch of this communications satellite weighing in at 7.5 tons, will put the satellite into orbit at 22,000 miles above the Earth. In additional news, Elon Musk, of Tessla Motor fame, has confirmed that his company will again make an attempt to land a Falcon 9 rock booster on a floating platform in the Atlantic. Personally, I love what Mr. Musk is doing, as his success will allow rocket boosters to be re-used, thus ...
