Should you take the lowest bid on a remodel estimate?  The lowest bid may just not be the best option when choosing a remodeling contractor.  You've likely taken three or more estimates for the scope of your remodel work.  First, qualify the estimate.  Make sure you're comparing apples to apples.  There should be itemized lists with the scope of the work, the products being used in the remodel or installation of materials and amounts/quantities of materials, also.  By doing this you can discover if the quality you're looking for is going to be used, whether the contractor forgot or left out items and whether you may want to upgrade or downgrade the entire project.  Your contractor should be able to provide material samples or spec's for any of the products that will be used, right down ...

Bonita Springs' major waterway now has a festival all its own.The Bonita Springs RiverFest celebrates the Imperial River on Saturday, Oct. 27, and is part of Lee County's Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival, celebrating Southwest Florida's 100-mile marked paddling trail. The festival will be fairly small and expected to grow through the years. The fishing cottages turned artists' space at Riverside Park will be open as part of RiverFest, encouraging the public to appreciate local art. The Bonita Springs Historical Society will have a presentation about the Imperial River's history, Simons said. The society's headquarters, the Liles Hotel, also will be open to the public.Local merchants, including Buffalo Chips owner Al Greenwood (who doesn't love Al?), will be on hand to serve up fried gree...

Cape Coral has had it's struggles with monitor lizards, Sanibel has iguana lizards, Naples has the green parrots and now Bonita Springs has an iguana infestation.  In addition to Riverside Park, the Bonita Springs community of Sandy Hollow has seen more than it's share of the lizards.  Residents are calling the city and animal control by the number complaining of the beasts appetite for their landscape.  The green iguanas are vegetarian and seem to be particularly fond of hibiscus blossoms. The only answer the city has come up with thus far is to have the animals trapped and euthanized.  The city of Bonita Springs didn't commit to trapping the iguanas and has left it up to the individual homeowners to pay for the traps and trapper. The "domesticated" pet booms in the wild are a result of ...

You know you live in a nearly boring town when a sink hole makes the news.  This is how rediculous this whole thing is....I drove over it two or three times and said, dang is that pot hole getting bad.  It started going through the feeds, the paper, the television station, etc.  They had to close a lane!  My stars!  I drove by at noon and, not one but TWO television crews were there monitoring a whole bunch of FDOT guys leaning on shovels. We've all had a good laugh over the "coverage".  Yesterday a plane was taking off out of Southwest Florida International Airport and followed a flight path that was so different than usual.  I said to the people in my car, "Isn't that odd to have a plane fly that direction over Bonita"? A retort came, "They'r...

Me, need help with a computer?  You betcha!  I limp my way through most stuff, like that whole router issue on vacation, but the last few days I have been stumped.  None of the computers were getting the signal in this house and it was maddening. Comcast of Bonita Springs SWORE they fixed it.  Less than an hour after they left it choked and died again.  I did what I should have done in the first place - I called Platinum Coast Technology.  They've bailed me out of more than one situation, already.  A new hard drive, lots 'o RAM and a fresh keyboard without the letter "P" taped on!  When I called Platinum Coast, Randy answered on the first ring and in less than two minutes walked me through changing the IP on my laptop.  Somehow, every computer on my network ended up with the same IP and...

Bonita Springs has, in recent years, been an expanding market growing not only in home ownership, but also with businesses. With the current state of the softer housing market in Bonita Springs there are great loan programs in the mortgage industry that can effectively give a consumer peace of mind.   To the consumer this shows that there are many opportunities for marketing, growth, and financial gain.  At The Money Tree Financial Corporation, we have certain asset driven programs that work effectively in the market as it currently stands in Bonita Springs.  Our most effective mortgage product is called our "Asset Manager Loan."  What makes this loan so worth while is its ability to control, and effectively, manage consumer monthly debt.  While this can be placed in either your first o...

So I'm back in Bonita Springs from last weeks gallivant around the desert!  Immediately, my neighbor tracks me down and asks if I want to support "the cause".  You know I'm in!  A fine strand of black pearls is the prize of choice for this great fund-raiser to support treatment for breast cancer.  I'm down for three, it's all she had with her.   Dufrane Jewelers, located in The Promenade shopping center has donated the jewels.  Their store is just gorgeous.  It's located beside Ben and Jerry's, you can't miss it.  Someday I'll have to share the story of the "heirloom" necklace I purchased there.  It's beautiful but has a hysterical story to go with it.If you would like more information about buying a ticket, call or email and I'll put you in touch with the appropriate parties!  Have a g...

Several months ago I stumble onto One Price Cleaners.  I had been a loyal customer of a different cleaner for years but a "creepy" started working there and I had to leave that scene.  It took me three weeks of driving the old cleaners before "creepy" wasn't at work and I could get my clothes back.Simply by accident I found my new cleaner.  It's in one of the Commercial Bernwood Building complexes in front of Pelican Landing.  I had actually gone behind the building to take photos of the cypress trees.  A little know secret is that there is a preserve with a boardwalk that cuts right though a swamp and cypress head between Bernwood complexes.  I happened to have laundry in my car that day and when I returned from the photo shoot I decided to drop of the clothes to get laundered as a tri...

Reciprocity, states simply that we must give first in order to receive. In fact, one of the great truths of life is that the more we give the more we receive.  Unfortunately many people chose to ignore this universal truth and instead live by the motto - Me First. I'm sure you know who these takers are in your life. It is the employee who wants a promotion before paying her dues, or a raise before consistently delivering value to the organization, or children who beg for something today promising to make it up to you tomorrow, or the salesperson who expects to close the sale before providing real solutions to their customer's problems.

Yes, I'm a real estate agent but first and foremost I'm a Mom and a grandmother! I have four granchildren and a fifth on the way and I love every minute I spend with them, I wish they were all in Florida! This is Leyna, my first grandchild- she is 3. Now I have to share a great place I discovered here in Bonita. It is called DITTO KIDDO. You can go there and buy whatever you need when the grandchildren are coming - and they have everything. They have cribs, strollers, toys - you name it. Now here's the best part, when they kids leave, you don't have to worry about where you are going to store the stuff - they buy it back from you! Discounted of course, but it's worth it. Go to their website: www.dittokiddo,com and read all about the business. It is located on Bonita Beach Road west of T...

O.K., you've heard that before but this is for real! I just had to furnish my first home here and the prices in area furniture stores were just too high - so I decided to try the consignment shops. WOW! I have just about finished furnishing the whole place - and it looks great - and the only thing I bought new was a mattress!BEST PLACES TO GO:COLLECTIVE CONSIGNMENT - 24241 S. Tamiami Trail. Call 390-0901, the nicest people and they only sell good stuff. Chirs and his Mother-in-law, Barb are almost always there - and a few doors down (they actually have two stores) Rick will help you with whatever you need. It's great!LIBERTY YOUTH RANCH UPSCALE - Old 41, west side just before Bonita Beach Road heading south. YOU MUST GO HERE, all the profits go to the Liberty Ranch for orphaned children...

The Southwest Florida area has not gone without insurance growing pains.  A few years ago, after a succession of storms, big insurance dumped us.  Almost every one of us lost our insurance; cancelled on the spot.  Shamefully, our state government allowed it to happen.  Our local insurance brokers were faced with telling customers they have had for years that they couldn't write policies in certain areas, usually by zip code. One of my favorite insurance brokers, Ridge Jones was unable to write my homeowner's policy after I was cancelled.  I ended up on the state run "Citizen's" insurance through a different broker.  My policy just came up for renewal and I decided to call Ridge and give it another shot.  Lo and behold he has authorization to write policies again in most areas.  Why does ...

The dirtiest car in sunny Bonita Springs usually is registered to me.  I hate washing cars.  The worst thing that happened to me in the last year was I drove to a puddle of tar.  Apparently, baby oil will melt tar.  At least that is what my son the pavement-ologist says.  He neglected to share that it takes hours to do so, tons of elbow grease and it wrecks your nails.  My hands looked like Shrek's by the time I was done. The lesson is learned - I am not qualified to wash, clean or detail a car.  I am NOT a specialist.  I have since taken the time to find a specialist.  Bonita Bubbles.  It's a super cool carwash that take about 10 minutes, tops.  Vacuum, interior wipe down, exterior wash and towel dry all for eleven bucks!   You can't beat that with a stick.  I am a better car owner now....

No man will likely feel this pain nor will he empathize.  Finding a person to cut your hair when you're a woman is a big deal.  It is huge.  We (women) spend years search for, finding and molding our hair car professionals.  We then covet them and put them on our Christmas card list because they're so important to us.  We develop relationships that are close.  We know each others families and learn the latest dirt going around town at our salon or with our hair dresser.  Gail is my personal hair care savior.  I identified with Gail right away because she is down to earth.  Plus she, too, survived being the mother of twins.  Mothering twins is a battlefield and an unspoken bond that other survivors quietly share and respect of each other.  If you manage to survive with out incarceration ...
