Yesterday I had some free time and decided to go see if the manatees were back yet, and they were!  Every year from about November till about the middle of April, when the waters get cooler, the manatees come inland to the warmer waters found in springs or the power plant discharge canals in Florida.  One of those power plant discharge canals happens to be in Apollo Beach which is less than an hour from Bradenton.There were quite a few manatees there yesterday.  Sometimes it's hit and miss when you go.  Sometimes you can go and maybe see one or none and sometimes you can literally see hundreds of them.  I would say there were about 10-15 of them there yesterday that you could see from the viewing deck and the pier, and a few more out further floating in the waters.There were also some r... 12/08/2007

They are getting ready to remodel the Apollo Beach Elementary.  The 5.9 million dollar budget will cover renovations inside and out. It will begin December 2008 and be finished by January 2009.  They are planning on doing a major overhaul and replacing the electrical and plumbing, the ceiling tiles and the lighting will be replaced as well.  All restrooms will be replaced as well. New furniture will be purchased and they are adding an up to date Media Center which will contain the library and the technology area.  Whiteboards will replace the chalk boards and a new sprinkler system will also be installed.Once this school is done, it will virtually be a brand new school that will be able to house elementary students for many years to come. 11/18/2007
