I'm amazed at what great pictures my I can take with my old I phone.  I took it from the bridge that connects the south end of Amelia Island Florida to Big Talbot Island. I was sitting on the new bridge in my car and there was no traffic so I was able to stop and take this!         I took this picture from my car. It is taken from the new bridge.  The old bridge is there for people to walk out onto and fish.  South end of Amelia Island Florida.

Thelma and Louise made it home safely despite a terrible storm.   Today Thelma and Louise, also known as Fawn and Sybil went to Jacksonville for Thelma to have a cat scan and then see her back surgeon. In December 2013, she had nine vertebra fused from the Thorasic level 9-10 through the Lumbar level 4-5. I was amazed when I saw her before and after cat scans.  Fawn (or Thelma) had very severe scoliosis and spinal stenosis.  The first time I saw her after the surgery, she was visibly taller".  The surgery didn't staighten her back completely but it improved her posture quite a bit.  After the appontments and lunch we were heading back to beautiful Amelia Island Florida and Fernandina Beach. We got caught in a terrible storm.  We parked at a fast food restaurant until the deluge passed o...

Wordless Wednesdays Desktop: Beautiful sunset on the James River   This picture was taken by my son from our boat, the REEL ESTATE. We were on the James River near the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.  From where we were located if we went east (under the bridge or over the tunnel in our boat) we would be in the Chesapeake Bay. I live and sell real estate on Amelia Island Florida, but still love this picture.

This picture was taken last summer. It is my two grandsons, they are fishing in a lake just west of Amelia Island.                     My older grandson who was twelve when this picture was taken, hooked a huge bass, but the bass threw the hook.  He was really upset that he lost that fish.  Like his father, he is a true fisherman.

Marsh Lakes is a beautiful and popular subdivision just off Amelia Island. It is one of my favorite neighborhoods and although I no longer live there, I would recommend it to anyone moving to the Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach area.  As the name implies, most houses in the "estates" section of Marsh Lakes back up to the marsh or a lake. Some of the houses on the marsh have navigable or tidal water behind them.   Marsh Lakes has two sections, the estates and the villages.  The estates of Marsh Lakes has beautiful custom built homes ranging in age from 22 years to almost brand new.  The villages area has zero lot lines and some single family residential homes.  The single family homes in the Villages of Marsh Lakes are patio homes.    Marsh Lakes has two pools, tennis courts and three la...

I moved to Amelia Island three times! So you may want to know why I moved to Amelia Island three times. I'm so glad you asked!  I moved here originally in 1972 when my ex-husband got his first job after he graduated from college.  It was culture shock to say the least having moved from Raleigh, N. C. to the sleepy little town of Fernandina Beach. At that time, Fernandina Beach was a small town and very few people had heard of Amelia Island.   After several years our family was transferred to Rome Georgia but then the original company hired my ex-husband to come back in in 1981.  We thought we would only live on Amelia Island for a couple of years but that 2 years turned into 21 years and then we were transferred to Williamsburg, Va.  After living there for almost 9 years I moved back to...

The 17th Annual Concours is this weekend, at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. Over 300 cars will be on display this weekend, and the honoree is Vic Elford, who will be driving onto the field in his 1968 Porsche. If you have never been, this is a wonderful event, perfect for a group of car enthusiasts.  Hop the Mayport ferry for a shorter drive, bring a cigar to enjoy as you walk the golf course, and bring some cash for the beverages and food available on-site. Parking is well-marked, but it may be easiest to park at the Fernandina Beach airport, and take the shuttle right to the event; sure beats parking in a questionable spot, and wondering if your car will be there when you get back.

The revered Amelia Island Plantation was purchased out of bankruptcy last year by the group that owns Omni Hotels & Resorts. This breathtaking oceanfront resort has over 1200 acres along 3.5 miles of the Atlantic coastline. With the acquisition, I think most of us in the area anticipated some changes, we just were not sure when Omni  would start on the work. If you have not have the opportunity to visit the Plantation, and the Ritz Carlton also on Amelia, the holidays are a fabulous time to do so, with holiday lights and decorations, the annual gingerbread creation in the Ritz Carlton lobby, and the annual Shop in Your Pajamas morning in downtown Fernandina Beach! Full article for Omni Amelia Island Plantation .
