Will We Have a White Christmas in Prospect CTAs we started our day today, on Christmas Eve, we were greeted by a light dusting of snow.Pretty to be sure, but if it gets to be too deep, it will make traveling for last minute shoppers as well as gatherings later in the evening tenuous. In the short term it's a delight to see. It is going to change to rain at some point but for a while we can appreciate natures' beauty. It's probably for the better, however as it's been reported that there are large armies at the border waiting to overrun our town. Will We Have a White Christmas in Prospect CT

Decorated Street Signs in Prospect CTHere in Prospect CT the competition for best decorated street sign is in full aggressive mode.   I had done a post earlier in the month just as a precursor to one in which I would hopefully get more signs to share.  I did a little driving early this morning to find some more signs and it seems as if the residents are feeling a little in the Hum-Bug mode as there were very few decorated. Here are a few more that I felt needed some recognition:It's not likely that there will be more decorated signs over the next week.  People have a lot of things to do before Santa arrives. My previous post can be fund from the link below:It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas in Prospect CTAt the very least, the residents that did take the time to decorate their si...

Throwback Thursday:  A Special Visit from SantaIn looking for some photos, I came across a few taken at one of our early Christmas luncheons. This particular year we were going to disappoint a few youngsters as Santa had called and was under the weather.Fortunately, I was inspired by an article that I saw in our local paper that the Volunteer Fire dept was having Santa at various stops in town and their last was going to be at the end of our cul-de-sac.  I offered a donation to the charity of their choice if Santa could just stop in briefly to say hello to the kids.Santa and Mrs. Claus showed up in front of the house riding on the top of a ladder truck. The kids and even a few of the adults were impressed. The 2 boys on Santa's lap are in their last years of college. The youngster to the ...

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas in Prospect CTAs I was driving home from an appointment earlier today, I passed a couple of streets where residents were decorating the street sign posts. Last year, the town had a challenge to residents to see which street came up with the best decorated signpost. It's still a little early and some of the work done last year will be hard to surpass but at least one street did themselves proud. It will be interesting to see, over the next week, how many other streets work up for the Challenge this year and decorate their street signs. It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas in Prospect CT

I Messed Up in Spreading the Lawn LimeI do enjoy doing my yard work and just this past week spread lime so that it would give me a sweet-smelling lawn next spring.  Somehow I must have been a lot more tired when I did the back yard, however as I spread that white powder all over the sidewalk and in the flower beds. When I went out for the paper this morning, I also had extra lime on the front lawn, but it seems to have dissolved with the light rain we had.Guess I will need to be more careful next year. especially when we have moisture falling in late November.I Messed Up in Spreading the Lawn Lime

Things I Am Thankful For:  FamilyThe holidays are all about enjoying the company of those we hold dear, our family and occasionally a few close friends that are like family. As we sit down to enjoy the meal prepared with a lot of effort and love today in our households we will have 4 generations at the tables.Mom and Dad will feed themselves and know the names at everyone at the table. No small feat for a couple whose combined ages total 200. My soul mate, Cauna, will be somewhere near me as we enjoy a Thanksgiving celebration for our 34th year as a couple, and even though we know it was not supposed to happen way back then, I could have only hoped we had gotten together sooner. As the family grows the emotions grow as well.  We just had a family wedding and in the spring hope to have an...

It's The Time For Frost On The PumpkinWe gained an hour but it also brought something else with it.  We are into the morning frost time of year.Looking out at the trees and grass and there is definitely a tint of white to the tips. It is frost on the pumpkin time, but our pumpkin is gone but the dwarf maple in the front yard thinks it has to carry the saying. For the first day in DST, this is a hard sign of a tough winter to come. It's The Time For Frost On The Pumpkin

The Colors Of Fall Are Here in Prospect CTProspect CT is a small town in New Haven County with lots of tree lined roads. They can be a distraction this time of year for the colors of the leaves on the hardwood trees so prevalent in our area.As I was driving near the watershed area of Connecticut Water Co,  I stopped to take a few photos of the trees that lined a small pond.Going a bit further up the road I came to Merriman Pond which is located in a park behind the Prospect Town Hall.  The trees here were also strutting their colors as well. And adjacent to the town are some tennis courts and the trees there were also in full foliage blossom.Money magazine once ranked Prospect CT as one of the best small towns in America. As a long time resident I can agree with that 101%.As a real estat...

The Fall Colors Are Here In Central CTWe are appreciating the colors of fall with a great burst this past week.  We are not quite to peak as yet and with the rain that is supposed to fall this week the leaves may just fall and leave us with bare trees. As I took my weekly walk across some open fairways, I took an occasional stop to share a bit of color as well. The Fall Colors Are Here In Central CT

The Colors Of Fall Are ComingWe are into  very colorful time of year in Connecticut but there is no set schedule for it's arrival.  It's all based on the weather and with the amount of rain we have had this year, the colors should pop.For me, the colors seem to be just a bit brighter on a golf course, possibly because there is so much open grass area to allow the trees to stand out a bit more. Hopefully not hiding my ball as well.On this fairway, I took a photo Sunday afternoon of a tree stand trying to make a change. And after our Zoom call I met up with some friends to play a few holes and as if overnight a burst of color. While the day itself was sunny Tuesday vs an overcast sky on Sunday, it was still a beautiful sight. The added advantage for me as someone else would be raking these l...

20 Years Later, A New Order To Our LivesAs people were preparing to go about another routine day, events were unfolding that would shock our country and the world.  At airports in the East coast, people boarded planes and prepared for flights. As best as can be acknowledged, groups of flight trained terrorists, commandeered 4 domestic flights and  set to their agenda. The first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade center in New York City shorty after 8:30 Am.  Within minutes, the South Tower was also hit.In Washington DC, a 3rd plane struck the Pentagon building, and alert passengers, listening to news in a fourth plane intended to hit the White House, retook the plane, which crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. With so little information available, government authorities put t...

Happy Labor Day 2021Labor Day is a Federal holiday in the United State celebrated on the first Monday in September in any given year to honor and recognize the American Labor movement  and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States.  Beginning in the late 19th century, as the trade unions and labor movements grew, trade unionists proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. "Labor Day" was promoted by the Central Labor Union, which organized the first parade in New York City. In 1887, Oregon was the first state of the United States to make it an official public holiday. By the time it became an official federal holiday in 1894, thirty states officially celebrated Labor Day. Canada's Labour Day is also celebrated on the first ...

Unexpected Summer Colors Revisited Last week I posted about the over-sized Hibiscus flowers that I saw while driving to an appointment.  Then we got hit with all the rain from Tropical storm Henri and the fear that it would cause damage to the flowers. Well Henri didn't hurt the flower and there were actually more blossoms on the flower today as I went by purposely to see it again. I was also happy to find it's cousin about a mile away only a different color and just as large. While cousin Red didn't have as many blossoms, it had a lot of pods ready to soon burst. The previous blog  can be found here:  Unexpected Summer ColorsUnexpected Summer Colors Revisited
