Friday Flags:  Flag Day in Prospect CTFlag Day was June 14, and many flags were flying to celebrate the flag as well as the day. The day is observed as a celebration of the day on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes for the flag of the United States. The first national observance of Flag Day took place 100 years after the original resolution on June 14, 1877.Here in Prospect CT, the town had a special flag flying in front of the town Hall to honor both the day and also the students that were also leaving school to start their summer vacation. On any day, we should all be proud to not only see the flag, but to also have it in front of our own homes.Friday Flags:  Flag Day in Prospect CT

Prospect CT Center Decorated with FlagsWe are starting the Memorial Day weekend and many consider it the kick off to summer as well. The central intersection of town was adorned this past week with flags on all the poles with a 1/2 mile of the intersection. It's not unusual as each year we get a new batch of flags which will last through the fall.Once mentioned by Money magazine as one of the top 300 towns in the country, we still consider ourselves one of the best and certainly one of the most patriotic.Prospect CT Center Decorated with Flags

Sunset in Prospect CTOur town doesn't have a lot of vistas that offer clear views of sunsets, but I had an opportunity earlier this week to get a shot through the trees.  In a couple of weeks, with full foliage this would not be possible,It was a pretty sunset even if we didn't get to see the final splash of colors.Sunset in Prospect CT

Friday Flags in Prospect CTBeing a proud American as well as a veteran, I so appreciate seeing or flag waving proudly. Thanks to Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho  and his inspirational Friday Flags posts, I try to do the same in our area,This week, I stopped to take a flag that flies daily in front of the Prospect Veterinary Hospital on Waterbury Rd in Prospect CT, which shares a building with PAWS, a dog training facility. And after picking up your friend, what could be better than a special personal reward at the adjacent Big Dipper. It's a family owned, old fashioned homemade ice cream parlor with too much to please the eyes and the taste buds.Friday Flags in Prospect CT

Prospect CT Town Wide Tag Sale Sat 5.14.22It will be a day for driving cautiously and not getting upset at the way they park alongside the road. It's the annual town sponsored tag sale and many a front yard and driveways will be open with treasures from the owners looking to clear out the basement and garage with the treasures someone else wants. While many were urged to register in advance, there will be many just taking the advantage of added traffic to sell a few items as well.It is often said that one person's trash is another person's treasure so maybe that special items is waiting 2 streets over.If you like what you see while driving around the town, then maybe I can help you find a yard of your own, here in Prospect, CT.Prospect CT Town Wide Tag Sale Sat 5.14.22

Happy Mother's Day 2022It’s a simple request and a few choice words will certainly bring joy to their hearts. Mom, Happy Mother’s Day, and I Love you.Mothers nurture, care, love. They feed us, and clothe us, wipe our running noseStay up with us when we are sick. They try to make us good people by teaching us right from wrong. They help us to understand how telling the truth is always the right thing to do.Mothers never judge and always carry hope.Today was a day to pay back just a bit by giving them a special day.I am blessed that my mom, Laura is still able to be at my table at 99 years young. Things aren’t what they used to be but taking care of herself is a plus.Dad passed this past January but Mom is still going strong.Happy Mother's Day 2022

We Finally Felt Enough Warmth to Sprout our ColorsWe have the first of our spring flowers and while they are little later than normal, they are much appreciated and colorful. The daffodils are wonderful for the way they sprout in groups, and even better as they propagate over the summer and come out even more plentiful the following year. Not very far from us I saw a blanket of daffodils on another lawn.  We should be getting more of them over the next few days and shortly after that the tulips will arrive. A great time of year for the colors and the promise of summer to follow. We Finally Felt Enough Warmth to Sprout our Colors

Buyer's Frustrations in Connecticut are UnderstandableSo many buyers are getting frustrated with the current inventory of homes in Connecticut as well as other parts of the country. None of the 'experts' have a clear answer to the urgency to buy other than low interest rates that are starting to creep up and the need for space created by the pandemic.  As the chart below demonstrates, towards the end of 2019 the inventory of homes available for sale through the statewide MLS system was just under a 7-month supply That was clearly a buyer's market, which meant choices and leverage to negotiate a value to a very good purchase.  At the time, the economy was booming along, and it appeared that growth would sustain the flow for a while. And then virus swept the globe. As it was so highly cont...

It's Just Not Warm Enough to Break ThroughThe calendar shows early April and normally days would be in the high 40's to mid 50's or better. But that is not the case as the cold lingers and the blooms of spring can't come out to shine. These crocuses started to sprout and just seem to have stalled as the sun is just not there to invite them out.Same with these Hiacinth's that are trying to sprout but aren't quite ready to leave the warmth of the ground. It's the same with the daffodils. All dressed up but still too cold to sprout and be appreciated.Hopefully it won't be long, and these purveyors of smiles will get to do their best for us.It's Just Not Warm Enough to Break Through

It's Officially SpringAt 11:33 AM EST we officially entered the Spring of 2022. It is 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness but going forward we will gain a few extra minutes of daylight all the way to late June. The temperatures are still on the cool side only into the mid 50's so the colors of spring are slow to develop. I did see a few areas with potential and stopped to take a couple of photos. As we get a little further into the spring days, the temps will warm, and the colors will pop as well. I can hardly wait. It's Officially Spring

Where's the Spring?Spring seems a long way off. We are a week away from the first day of spring and just hours into Daylight Savings Time, and yet something just doesn't set right.Sunday, March 20 is the official first day of spring. Omveer the next months until June 20, we will see the days get longer by just a few minutes per day and yet come June it will be much brighter not to mention warmer. So, with the snow that fell yesterday, spring seems so far away. And even though it was just a dusting, it can pull down the spirits as though we were into deep inches of that white stuffEven this poor cardinal didn't want his toes in the cold snowWhere's the Spring?

It's Time to Push the Clocks Ahead AgainI for one look forward to this time of year as I consider it the beginning of the end of winter and spring is just around the corner. It is the annual return to Daylight Savings Time, at 2 AM on Sunday. So, unless you want to be late for everything Sunday morning, you had better turn that clock back before you go so bed tonight. And while you are preparing for the time change, it is also a good time to change out the batteries in the smoke detectors as well. It's Time to Push the Clocks Ahead Again

Which Home Improvements Bring the Most Return in Central Connecticut We are still in the heart of winter and with temps so low, it is hard to justify home remodeling. Yet, when the Spring market hits, buyers will be anxious and sellers want to make sure their home gets the best attention. So where to begin?  If you have lived in the home a long time, your objectivity could be clouded so it may be best to seek the advice of a professional. It could be the agent you intend to list with, or even a home stager that would offer information on the decor of the rooms and what should be taken away as well as colors, that show best. PaintingA fresh coat of paint will not only clean up rooms, but also offer a prospective buyer a more secure feeling on placing an offer. Buyers that are spending bi...

A January Nor'Easter in Connecticut   1.29.22The first major snowstorm of 2022 left a lot of snow and with winds the drifts were deep. Some areas of the state got dumped on with almost 24" of snow in some areas.  Here in Prospect CT, I measured 8" of snow in my yard and some areas several ties that with drifts.  All together it sowed for almost 24 hours and the temps never went beyond the 20's so it was a light and fluffy snowfall. It looks so pretty as it covers with its heavy blanket, but it still needs to be shoveled and plowed to allow access into and out of the home. Some people do appreciate the snow, nd no one more than kids as it allows for a few fun runs down a nearby hill.Soon enough it will be ugly, but for a day or so it is pretty.  As for me, I prefer the grass that it's cove...
