Friday Flags in Prospect CT June 2023+While sitting at the computer reading the blogs this morning, I realized that I didn't have a flag to post for Friday. Not a problem, as I only had to look out the window to see a possibility.To the left of the front stoop is the UConn banner. I am a 1971 graduate and proud of the school and the teams. It is standing atop the red dwarf maple that adorns the right side of the stoop.On the opposite side of the front porch is our country's flag. It is always out there, no disrespect intended.I have flown the flag ever since I moved into my first home in 1978, as a matter of pride in my country and for the service I gave it.I will keep a sharper eye this week to find a business that shares the sentiments.There is always the main streets through Prospect...

Although today is Flag Day, it is not a legal holiday. In our area there will be very few parades, but at the very least the flag will wave proudly on all state and municipal buildings, like ours, many a residential property. Falg Day is a day of recognition of the adoption of the Flag of the united States by the Second Continental Congress back in 1777. In 1916, Pres. Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 as the official Flag Day and in 1949 Congress established the official Flag Day. I well remember as a kid the activities in school centered around flag day, and the morning pledge of allegiance before class began. Try to do that today. Prospect Ct is literally an intersection of roadways between New Haven and Waterbury Ct. Even today, it's a cozy town of app 15,000 people. The town enjoys the closeness of a small community yet still maintains a connection to the large towns that surround it, as people come home after work. One of the first sections to be developed in town is the Upper Scott Road area. Within a pie shaped area between Scott, road which comes up from the East End of Waterbury and Rt 69, the primary Rt to New Haven is a development of predominately small ranch style homes with an occasional colonial built on an extra lot. Today, at the intersection of Rts 68 & 69 in Prospect Ct, blooms a field of American Flags. The Field of Flags was started almost five years ago at a local church, with each representing an American service man or woman killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. This flag display was put up on Friday, March 26 and will stay here until it's taken down on April 18. The flags will be in Prospect at the request of a Waterbury father who lost his son in Iraq. Organizers of this event got the necessary permission from the Town and the church to put up the flags at the intersection.
