    Here in Prospect CT, the Woodland high School Boys and girls soccer teams held a drive to collect cans and bottles. The proceeds would go toward their costs of travel, etc for their games and practices. Several groups collect recyclables a few times a year, and we always save our cans and bottles just for these drives. With 6 months worth of empties in various oversized plastic bags, I loaded up the car and went to the parking lot of St Anthony's church in the center of town. There the volunteers gladly took all the bags and carried them to the sorting area and then into the truck .     I may have left them $10 to $15 worth of empties, but that was so much more rewarding than taking them to the store myself. Weekends are getting to be common with the Tag and Garage sales. Here in Prospect CT and Beacon Falls CT, there are additional signs going up. The Woodland High School Finish Line Booster Club is selling these yard signs for $10 each. Central CT Short Sales Fees Limited for Negotiators   In an effort to limit complaints filed by consumers against short sale negotiators charging excessive fees, the CT Department of Banking and the Department of Consumer Protection issued a joint bulletin this week. There are now limitations on the fees that a negotiator can charge for their work in assisting a distressed homeowner with their short sale. The fees are capped at $500, and they will be paid upon completion of the debt negotiation contract. Donating Books so Others Might Learn to Read . . . Paying it Forward   Here in Connecticut, there's a non profit organization called Read to Grow. Their mission is to bring reading at an early age to children. They depend on donations of used children's books, or money donations so that books can be bought. We happen to have a vast collection of children's books, that are for ages 3 and under. A box of them was collected, and my wife brought them to work, as the entire office got involved as well. Reading can be taught at an early age, as it is taught through hearing. Our youngest grandchild, Raphael, loves stories, and has been exposed to them since birth. It's a Small Sign, But it's Officially Spring To a first observation, it's a front yard. The daffodils have sprouted, the flox is starting to flower, and the first signs of leaves are starting to emerge. No For Sale, sign, just a photo, but to me it's been long overdue. See, the last time I had this part of the yard online, it looked like this, with almost 18" of snow cover on the ground. So yesterday, I mowed the yard for the first time this year. As it was recently fertilized, and it's warm and rainy now, I will probably need to mow it again in 4-5 days, but I won't care. For Christians, the celebration of Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ, and his sacrifice for all.     Many people will attend services dressed in their spring finery, their easter Bonnets. Opening Day of the Fishing Season in Prospect CT . . . They Do Look Cold! The fishing season officially opened here in CT and the anglers alongside the pond at McGrath Park in Prospect CT were very thin this morning. Maybe the 43 degree weather with the 25 mile per hour wind had something to do with it. All over the state fishermen were out to try their luck at their favorite spots. The State of CT had already done it's part with stocking trout all over the state. Here in Prospect CT, a fishing derby for the young was postponed, and the weather had a lot to do with that, especially as rain is in the forecast.  Paying it Forward . . Coffee for the Troops Having spent time in the Army, I can appreciate a break in the day with a 'Cup of Joe'. Even today I enjoy the relaxation offered with just taking a break. Here in our area, a few of the local Prospect CT businesses are serving as collection pints for the Coffee Mission for our troops.    For a while now, the coffee collected has been takento a central facility in Middletown, CT for boxing and then sent to our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan. The coffee must be brought in bags, as they pack more efficiently. It must also be ground coffee and not bags of beans. The request is also no flavored or decaf coffee. The Proper Technique to Making a Snowman  There are many ways to build a snowman. The key essential would be the proper type and amount of snow. We have been blasted this winter with snow. It came in huge amounts and it was so cold that it was powdery light, which as any body versed in snow man making is not the right type. Snowmen require the proper degree of wetness in order to properly be rolled and also to be shaped. But more importantly, it requires the determination to do it. We got snow Saturday evening, and hopefully it will be the last snowfall for the year.
