Easter Sunday . . . A Christian Day of Celebration, for He Has Risen The period of Lent and sacrifice is over, all 40 days. For Christians, the celebration of Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ, and his sacrifice for all.     Many people will attend services dressed in their spring finery, their easter Bonnets. Kids will have allready had their Easter Egg Hunt to se who could collect the most, although all will be winners. Family will gather and have a meal of good will and abundance at the end of their fast period. All will be happy and well fed.

Opening Day of the Fishing Season in Prospect CT . . . They Do Look Cold! The fishing season officially opened here in CT and the anglers alongside the pond at McGrath Park in Prospect CT were very thin this morning. Maybe the 43 degree weather with the 25 mile per hour wind had something to do with it. All over the state fishermen were out to try their luck at their favorite spots. The State of CT had already done it's part with stocking trout all over the state. Here in Prospect CT, a fishing derby for the young was postponed, and the weather had a lot to do with that, especially as rain is in the forecast. Not everyone was scared off, however, although there were different levels of success. This angler had 6 trout already on his string and was keeping them alive in the water.   This...

Paying it Forward . . Coffee for the Troops Having spent time in the Army, I can appreciate a break in the day with a 'Cup of Joe'. Even today I enjoy the relaxation offered with just taking a break. Here in our area, a few of the local Prospect CT businesses are serving as collection pints for the Coffee Mission for our troops.    For a while now, the coffee collected has been takento a central facility in Middletown, CT for boxing and then sent to our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan. The coffee must be brought in bags, as they pack more efficiently. It must also be ground coffee and not bags of beans. The request is also no flavored or decaf coffee. Here in Prospect CT, the collection points are the offices of the Prospect Pages. located in the Cross Pointe plaza on route 69, or a...

The Proper Technique to Making a Snowman  There are many ways to build a snowman. The key essential would be the proper type and amount of snow. We have been blasted this winter with snow. It came in huge amounts and it was so cold that it was powdery light, which as any body versed in snow man making is not the right type. Snowmen require the proper degree of wetness in order to properly be rolled and also to be shaped. But more importantly, it requires the determination to do it. We got snow Saturday evening, and hopefully it will be the last snowfall for the year. This was not only the right consistency, it was also the right amount for a first time novice.    Saturday was the 2nd birthday for Grandson Raphael, and even though we have had bunches of snow, it wasn't at all proper for ...

When the Bus Isn't Available It's fairly common to see special buses that service seniors pulling into shopping plazas or stores to discharge their riders. Appointment need to be made to get onto the buses and their allotment of time has to be met as there are probably too few buses and too many seniors that need assistance. With the storms that we've had lately, the burden on these buses must be heavy, and there are many a senior that just doesn't get out. I received a call from an old family friend recently. She was on the mailing list for the calendars I send out. This woman with a great deal of starin in her voie was asking for a ride to tgo grocery shopping. She hadn't been out in over 3 weeks, and just couldn't get the bus to help here.   I went by the house, took her to go shoppi...

There's so Many Things to Look for With this Ice and Snow Before it Causes Real Damage We're having a brutal winter here in Connecticut. Every storm that comes up the coast has turned left and brought so much misery with it. The snow gets taken off the roads and the driveways get cleared as do the walks. The burden of all the weight has created severe problems for many with no immediate end in sight. The piles of snow on the roofs has started to create major ice issues that are starting to become bigger yet. Stores in our area cannot keep snow rakes in stock, and one dealer has already sold over 6,000 while still expecting more. When rakes aren't available a good shovel, or maybe even a push broom might work. Be careful when on the roofs not to fall and not to damage the roof itself. La...

Sunday Photo . . . Help, I'm Stuck in Here!!   It's no secret we've had a lot of snow, and it started very early in the year. We've had almost 60" of snow so far this month. Many decorations are buried under the depth of snow. As I was driving around yesterday, I came across this front yard scene. It's too bad the snow's so deep, as I would have liked to have seen some creative kids put a couple of smaller snowman around this one trying to pull it out.

Paying It Forward . . Nothing Stops the Mail From Being Delivered Last week, coming home for a break, I started to stop in front of the house like I usually do to collect the mail. The box was empty, which is a bit unusual at this time of month because it's typically bill delivery time. As I turned back to my car, I saw my mail person, Gina, walking towards me, which is unusual as we are on a motor route, waving at me with mail in her hand. As she got closer, she started to explain that the truck's transmission had stopped and she was just delivering our street, which is a cul-de-sac, and then she would have to wait for someone to come out to get her. She was very frustrated as she had already called twice that day for help, explaining to the office that the truck was acting up and the ...

We've Got a  Blow Going and It Isn't Stopping for A While! The snow started at just about 10 PM last night with just the faintest of flurries, but we had been warned that is was going to last for a while. At 7 AM this morning we were into a white out situation. A white out is just so much snow so quickly that that's all that can be seen. So at 11 AM I opened the front door to take a look at the yard, and it's all white. So let's take a look out the side door at the neighbor's house to see what it looks like that way. Yep, it's white there as well, and I also can't see my driveway. I wanted to open the doors to the deck but the snow would have dropped into the house, and there is still an 8" step up to those doors. So let's take a peek into the back yard. Yep, that's white as well as tha...

Paying It Forward . . . Santa Makes a Visit and Someone will Get Heat Every year we have a Christmas Luncheon for our family and closest friends. It is a great time, and everybody enjoys themselves. For this party, I also arrange to have a special visit from Santa Claus for all the kids. This is something that the kids wait for all year, and even the day of the party Santa cannot show up too soon for them. As everyone knows, Santa Claus needs to be very organized, and he has also become high tech, with his own email address, and I understand he's also working on a web site. If the kids had sent Santa their email list, he was kind enough to bring it with him and discuss it with them so that he knew exactly what they were asking for. Of course, he also let them understand that if they did...
