There's Pheasant Under Glass and then a Pheasant in the Grass   Early yesterday while on my way to an appointment I had to stop along the roadway to allow 2 pheasants to get out of the way. A little strange for our area as pheasants are not very common. I pulled down he road a bit then walked back to try and get a photo. One of the birds flew away, with a shrill squawk. The second tried to hide in the bush. I crept up slowly, got it in my sights, aimed and shot. Got it, a great photo of a pheasant trying to hide.     There's Pheasant Under Glass, and then a Pheasant in the Grass

Today We Closed on a Listing and Made the Seller Homeless Today should have been a Happy Day. A completion to a successful marketing campaign. Buyer's getting a nice clean property, and the seller moving on with their life. Well that was the thought as the day started. By Mid-day that was far from the case. We thought everyone was doing their job. The seller had made their own arrangements for their next move and did not want to share that with me. I did learn that they were going into a modular home community where many of the homes were considered mobile homes, which does carry special financing. The seller was excessively independent and not necessarily in a good way, trying to do things on their own and not wanting any assistance. They chose their own financing for their purchase an...

What I Have in My Life For Which I Am Grateful We are rapidly reaching a time of year that is often very festive for the Holidays and the extra time we have for ourselves. It is also a time of reflection and to be thankful for the positives in our lives or for the way we were able to overcome some of the negatives in our lives. Like so many of us, I have had issues in my life that were life altering but with some family support and common sense, and a bit of good luck, I have managed to prevail.     As I get closer to the Holiday season, and in particular, November, I start the month with the good feelings and warmth for having found a partner that truly makes life fun, enjoyable and so worthy of sharing. My wife, Cauna, and I celebrate our wedding anniversary on November 5. A day signi...

When Times Were Simpler When times were simpler, people found ways to entertain themselves. Kids would enjoy themselves outside and there was no thought of video games, spending time on the computer chasing all manner of diversions on the Internet. People sat down to dinner with friendly chatter and conversation about the day's activities. When it got dark they sat by the light of the fire and either read or dozed lightly watching the flames flicker and the wood pop. People cared for their neighbors. Helped each other with their walks and driveways. If they didn't see a neighbor in a while, someone went over and knocked on the door to make sure all was well. When times were simpler, we found time for each other and made do with what we had. This week, we went back to a time when things ...

A Halloween That Will Not Be Forgotten There will be a lot less kids out for Halloween this year with so much of the state being hit hard by an October Nor'easter. A freak occurrence that by far exceeded the damage done by the last storm of this type that fell back in October of 1923. The State of CT has been declared a disaster area, with almost 800,000 homes without power. We were at a wedding in Walpole, MA for the day and spent the night up there as driving was impossible. When we did get back to Prospect CT, the damage was very evident. We had no physical damage to the house, but are without power and were told by a neighbor that works for the utility company that it will be awhile. No degree of favoritism will help our street. The damage from this storm is far more extensive and i...

The Difference Between Buying and Renting is Just a Few Extra Phone Calls   Many people are fearful of buying a home because they feel they won't know how to properly maintain the home. It really isn't that bad and usually takes just an extra phone call. Home ownership isn't the costly task people think it is. The key to making home ownership easy is to first not buy more than you need, and to make sure that the homework on the home is done before you close. Working with an agent that listens, and making them appreciate that you need something that won't be a burden for work ensures that the home should not also be a burden financially. The key is to walk through the prospective home and note the care that was taken to display it for sale. If it doesn't look picked up, and is an older h...

Socks for the Troops . . . Pay it Forward The Prospect Pages, here in Prospect CT, is still collecting items for our troops overseas. One of the items they are collecting are plain white socks. Fortunately, I remembered this when I made a sock run to Costco recently, and purchased socks for myself and also for the troops stationed in the Middle East. Here in our area, a few of the local Prospect CT businesses are serving as collection points for these items. Socks can be brought to the offices of the Prospect Pages in Cross Pointe plaza right on RT 69. Any of the people in there will gladly receive the socks and get them to their appropriate mailing site. When I called over there to confirm the pick up location, Gwenn Fisher, the owner also reminded me that the Coffee for troops program...

Early Morning Buffet. Let's Hope the Owner Doesn't See Us . . . . Sunday Photo I was heading off to the golf course early this morning, when a movement caught my attention. I slowed the car down and saw these guys working in the shrubs in the front yard of this house. Before I could get the camera phone out, one bolted around the house, but the other one decided to stay and ham it up a bit. Someone will be wondering why the trees are losing their leaves so early.
