The Perfect Answer to Daylight Saving Time . . . Napping Day   People ran late, missed their church services, maybe a regular coffee date, all because of forgetting to set their clocks forward an hour. Also lost was an hour of sleep and that would also make for an uncomfortable day. The perfect answer is Napping Day.  Since 1999, the Monday after the adjustment for Daylight Saving Time has un-officially been called Napping Day. After losing an hour of sleep by springing clocks forward, many in the workforce will drag through the day on Monday, hence the need for a power nap.   A power nap will refresh, re-energize and de-stress. It’s good for the soul.  It shouldn’t be too long, or it could make one groggier instead of being refreshed. 15 to 20 minutes is about right. Sleep too long and...

Push those Clocks Ahead Tonight  We Begin Daylight Savings Time   The concept of being more efficient with the hours of the day is not unique to our modern history.  Records show that as far back as the Romans, adjustments were made to the clocks to allow for better use of the daylight hours.    Ben Franklin once wrote an essay back in 1794 championing the economy of candles that could be achieved if people just got up earlier when the sun was providing longer light to the day.   Yet, still there will be those that forget to make that adjustment to their clocks and time will be lost on Sunday,   It is the onset of spring. In short order we will be glowing in the warmth from the sun while we go about our business.   But still, we have to get past this weekend of lost sleep!

A Sign of Better Days to Come   We have been having miserable weather here in Connecticut.  Temperatures have set records for all time lows ever recorded, and snow has been deep and often as well. As I sit and look out the window while having a morning cup of coffee it is just all over white.   This morning, however I sensed something different.  The birds were at the feeders and on the suet baskets. I heard the birds not just chirping but singing.  The sound caused me to stop and just listen as it has been absent for so long.  When the birds are at the feeders, they will chirp in anger when pushed off the trough. This was different however, as it was just a song by a few of them as if welcoming better things to come.   My morning coffee tasted better for some reason, and the blue sky...

It's February in New England, and we are already tired of Winter We got another blast of snow last yesterday and it brings our total for the year to well over 4 feet. My driveway is almost 40% smaller and any more snow will just about shut us down. I seldom complain about mowing the lawn, just raking the leaves. I would so appreciate the opportunity to get out there and walk the yard.  I can't so it now as it's just lost to the snows.  We have at the very least 5 more weeks of winter.  I hope it all melts by june. I'd Put up A White Flag of Truce But Who Would See It

From out of Punxatawney PA, word from his translators was that Phil, that burrowing rodent, came out and saw his shadow.  That means 6 more weeks of winter.   Could it have been caused by the extra people with all those lights waiting for him to come out. How could he not have seen his shadow.  Present in that crowd were several managers of local hardware store, all with stocks of ice-melt, shovels and snow blowers that they were expecting to keep into inventory for a long time.   Here in CT, Chuckles was rumored to also see his shadow, but also present were several local owners of ski resorts fearful that their lodges would be vacated by residents spending time along the shoreline sunning themselves or waiting to tee off.   Well this snow certainly has me teed off, but there's nothin...

We are in the eye of another snow storm, this one a definite Noreaster'.  The driveway has been cleaned from the last storm and some of the asphalt is showing.  We think we are prepared, until I looked out the back door of the house to the deck. It's a drift that defies gravity and as the snow has been powdery due to the cold. That nose is almost 3 feet long, and that door is to an area with no heat so it can't be getting support from within. I know I will have to get out there and knock it down just so the fall a 3 AM doesn't shake the house. Mother Nature is so amazing.

Christmas Cactus can bring some color to a drab season. One of the rooms of our house is reserved for my wife's plants, and as it gets a lot of light, none of it direct sunlight it seems to make the greenery out there thrive. This is just one corner of this room with a touch of color front and center   This is just one corner of the room and the Christmas cactus is starting to throw out its shoots of color. This same plant gave us color at the beginning of November as well.  Guess it just likes the friends it has out in our sun room.   Christmas Cactus will Bloom  Whenever They're Ready

Separation of Church and State: Not in The Connecticut Foundation    New England has a character to town centers symbolized by a large green expanse with a simple church somewhere very close. This is not just a coincidence, but more representative of the center of all facets of life in the original settlements.   Many of the original settlers to the New World were running away from religious persecution yet when they settled and incorporated in the country, it was religion that was the basis of the country's government.   Originally in the founding of CT, town charters were granted under what were called Fundamental Orders, which was the original constitution of the state.  As the majority of settlers were Congregationalists, the first churches were Congregational churches and as such w...

It will happen even thought we have been lucky with the weather for the early part of this winter.  The weather forecasters are predicting a harsh cold winter, but through the first 2 weeks, it has been mild and mostly rain.  We started with a quick burst that dropped a quick 2 inches, and then it turned to rain which left a very heavy mess.  Then with the temperature drop that icy glow was allover the branches, which does afford a pretty sight. Before the day is done, the temps are going to rise into the 50's so most of this white will disappear.  It's too much to expect that this is it for the winter and the next storm will require the use of the shovels, so for now, it's just enjoy the view. It's a New Year, and many are moving slower this morning than normal after passing the change of the hour into a New Year.  It's a morning where all start back at the beginning, with high hopes and expectations.     The first hope should be for good health, as that's what drives our motivation. With family around we hope that we can do fr them and with them and enjoy the fruits of or labors. We hope our business will maintain a steady flow and that our efforts and commitments to our clients is consistent and proves bountiful. After that come the resolutions, many of which are likely to be lost before the month ends.  January is the month of highest gym memberships, they look forward to the influx of cash that will create a strain on the resources by March. What ever they hopes, may they...

We had our Christmas luncheon this Saturday and as it was so close to the big day our attendance was off a bit.  Never the less, those that came enjoyed themselves and the food. The kids were not disappointed, however as Santa did make his annual appearance and had gifts and kind words for all as well. We are always so happy when Santa shows up and the kids get besides themselves to have so much special time alone with this arrival.  Not to be overlooked, Santa let me know I had been good this year as well and had a special gift for me as well.   It's a special time of year and there can be no such thing a too many smiles or too many friends.   A Special Santa Sighting in Prospect CT

I recently helped a First Time buyer couple in Prospect CT with their first time purchase. They were highly motivated as they were expecting their first child shortly after the projected closing.  Being first time buyers, there were concerns and the obvious questions that needed to be answered. We tried our best to give them the assistance they needed and to guide them to the sources of information when It got beyond our areas of expertise. I was most pleasantly surprised when I received an email from them with the following words of appreciation and thanks.     This man is an excellent real estate agent. I cannot imagine a better experience in buying a home than the one he guided us through.  Not surprisingly, Ed came highly recommended from a personal reference. From the beginning, w...

Thanksgiving is More than a Big Meal As we got up to prepare for Thanksgiving and the dinner ahead, we were greeted to the morning sun on a yard covered with the results of the snow/rain storm that came in the previous day. It is a bit early but far less than had been predicted, for this we can feel grateful. We won't be celebrating our normal Thanksgiving dinner at our house as my wife is recovering from a surgery that she recently had and it would have been too much to do. All is well and on the way to a recovery, so again for this we are grateful.   The youngest Grandson, Raphael has started school and is enjoying every day. He just completed his recent work, which was a center piece for their Thanksgiving table and is so proud of himself. He loves school and will let us know just ...
