Back in early February, Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring. After what we experienced last year, it sounded too good to be true. After all, o year we were pelted with snow almost daily in February and it carried over into mid March as well.  So how shocked can I be as I walked along the yard Saturday, Feb 27 to see sprouts where I know the daffodils are planted?It's still a little early, and if we get more snow, which is highly possibly, these may get burnt and not recover.But for now, it is a sight to make one smile. What A Difference a Year Makes, Is Spring 2016 Around the Corner

Groundhog Day 2016, but unlike the movie with Bill Murray, we will not be stuck in a loop of winter like we were last year.At dawn of this day,  Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow and was not frightened by his shadow. As thought on cue, Colchester Chuckles in CT also thought that we should relax and wait for an early spring.For many here in CT it's as if we have been in a tepid fall since November as we have enjoyed some mild temperatures.  Even the Nor'easter that came through here 10 days ago has been forgotten as the snow is almost completely gone.That doesn't mean we should star the fertilizer on the lawns s yet as February is an unpredictable month and we can still get walloped with a few more flakes before it's done.But for now, we can enjoy the mild temperatures as we are ...

We had a very busy December and our Christmas luncheon for friends and families had to be put off until the Sunday after Christmas.  With a warm afternoon, we still had almost 30 people in attendance, and there was also a surprise visitor as well. Even though he has had a tough few days, he still had some little presents for the kids in attendance as well as some of the adults.  While he didn't have anything left in his bag for me, he did offer to take  photo just so all would know who Santa wasn't.A good time was had by all and  I heard Santa exclaim as he was flying away:  Happy Christmas to all, and I'm off to the beach. Santa's Last Appearance before Vacation

Just before we sat down to the Traditional dinner of the 7 fish on Christmas Eve, I took this photo of the presents piled high for Christmas.  We surely gave Santa some help, and there would be some little things that would appear before the morning rush to open the gifts. It was an evening of friendship, love and a wonderful dinner. We had a lot to be thankful for this year.Our wish is for all to enjoy the time of year and appreciate their family and friends.I also appreciate my kindred friendships here in ActiveRain.Merry Christmas, and Peace to all

Our house has been the center of all family events for almost 20 years now, and as long as we have the strength to do it, it will continue. Our family is not overly large but it is not uncommon for us to have a hundred pass through our doors before the Christmas Holidays are over.We will have the traditional Christmas Eve and Christmas day meals. Thanksgiving at the Silva Household  All of the major holidays are centered for our family at our house.  Its been this way for over 20 years. This year we had a few extra as one of my nieces brought her finance and his family. While the table seats enough, we choose to keep the food in the kitchen and let it be served buffet style. The meal consisted of the turkey, a 24 lb bird; mashed potatoes and gravy; home made stuffing; rice; sweet potatoes, green beans; fresh made cranberry sauce; salad.It was a meal that lasted for almost 2 hours and enough turkey was consumed to have quite a few head nodding later in the afternoon.Some of the guests took food home to give us a a break with the left-overs.  We are blessed to have a full table of family and food.  Hopefully all others enjoyed as ...

The pond on Rt 68 in Prospect CTFor anyone traveling through Prospect CT down RT 68 to Cheshire the water company land lines the road. Our Halloween displays are modest and it is more for the activity we don't get more than anything else.  Our street is a small cul-de-sac of 12 homes and is separated from the neighboring streets by a very busy thoroughfare. We still out put some lawn and door displays for the few kids that do venture out.  At the high point of the night we may get as many as 10 kids, some of which are relatives of the few kids that do live on the street. It has been interesting over the years to see the kids grow up and eventually they aren't there at all, being too old for the night.I had a little help over the weekend as Grandson Raphael helped with the displays along the walks and gathering the leaves for the pumpkin leaf bags.We also put out the inside candle pumpkins on the fireplace.  They will g...

The Colors of Fall are Starting  As I was driving up to the center of Prospect CT there was a flash of color that just seemed to stand out.  Just off the center of town, one of the oak trees near McGrath Park Pond has started to flash it's brilliant orange.
