Prospect CT, where the Living is Easy Prospect CT has been our home for 20 years.  We selected this town because of its convenience to getting to the highways needed for our work commute. One to Hartford CT and the other to New Haven CT.  The town was established in 1827 and is surrounded by Bethany, Waterbury, Cheshire and Naugatuck. The population of the town was recorded at 9,405 for the 2012 census and has carried the distinction as one of Money's top 300 towns.  The residents of Prospect CT are proud to call themselves "The Best Small Town in Connecticut".  Prospect CT is essentially a residential community but the business district through the center of town offers products and services consistent with those needed in a small town. The school system in Prospect CT is Region 16, a ...

The Azaleas Share their Colors in Prospect CT After such a brutal winter, the colors of spring are so welcome.  Our daffodils have just about gone away as have the tulips and the hyacinths. It's time for the azaleas and the rhododendrons to share their colors and they are just about exploded with their colors. The winter did take it's toll on the rhododendrons as a couple of them lost a lot of their leaves and are very slow in coming aroundThe flox in the rock garden is into it's prime and we will have the rest of the area planted with begonias this week for the rest of the summer color. The white is long gone and will not be missed.  Maybe Not the Azaleas of Agusta, But Still Pretty

It's the time for Mom's and those that will be.Walking along a small stream yesterday I noticed a pair of mallards that were attending to each other. It is spring and of course the mates are doing what they should be to propagate the species. The stream comes out of a thick covering of brush and it probably has the nest for the eggs to be hatched. I short order there may be a coupe of ducklings following mom around while dad just preems .Watching an Expectant Mother

National Stamp Out Hunger Food Collection in Prospect CT, Sat May 9 For the 23rd year, postal carriers will be delivering mail and hopefully bringing back to their offices more than they deliver.  Saturday, May 9 is the one day of the year when a mailbox can be used for something other than a delivery. It will be the pick-up point to collect non-perishable food items for local food banks. Those willing to help should just collect non-perishable food items, such as canned meats, soups, juice vegetables, or boxed pasta, rice and cereals. Items that have expired or are in glass containers should not be donated. Place their items in bags, near their mailbox, and the letter carriers will see that they are delivered to the local food pantries.  Although not expressed, it’s also possible to d...

Verifying a Buyer's Pre-qualification LetterBuyer's get very anxious when pursuing their dream home and can get very frustrated and disappointed when their dreams are side-tracked or unattainable. Such is the case with one of my current buyers. We had been looking at homes in their perfect location and their dream style property, but most were beyond their purchasing power.  Some homes that came within their their range required work and made a 203K mortgage a necessity. The issue was the first lender did not offer this loan product. So buyer now sources a second lender. The second lender offered a 203K loan, but now the buyer's purchase value has been lowered by 15%. This is significant and a call to that lender gets me some specifics and we go about our search.  We find a home that wi...

Spring in Prospect CTAfter the winter from , well you know where, where even a snowball would have had a chance, we are into the push of spring, with temps well above normal. I was on my way out to the office and stopped to take a few shots of the colors in the yard.  The flowering trees are in full bloom, as well as the hyacinths, daffodils, tulips and even some of the colorful shrubs that I haven't learned the name of after 19 years. It was such a cold white winter, I do enjoy the greenery and the spring flowers. Didn't Have to Go Far to Enjoy the Spring Colors

The Woodland Regional High School Drama club is presenting the Musical Godspell Fri and Sat May 1 & 2 at the schools auditorium in Beacon Falls CT. The story is a musical based loosely on the life of Jesus. To make the show more personal for the actors, and more of their own, all are using their own names and not the names of the original apostles and people in the life.  All but Jesus and Judas. It should be a fun and entertaining show and with a special Sat matinee, all can go to see the show. Some Changes Can be Traumatic Nothing lasts forever and there comes a time when we must make changes to make life easier for us.  This is the situation I am currently experiencing.  After a few years of comfort and a tested degree of proficiency, I am floundering.  Bigger may not always be better but definitely easier on the eyes.  So I am making the switch.  Good bye I5S, and hello S5.  I couldn't go any larger as I did not want to carry a small brief case for a phone.  I did that back in the mid 80's. Our business is so much dependent on technology and with the new changes to Google for web sites having a big enough phone to be able to comfortably read a web page is essential.  The S5 Galaxy is about 35% larger than the I5S and one feature I do appreciate is the battery can be replace...

It has to be Spring, all the signs are there.  The yards are active with owners working on them to get the winter debris cleared away.  The parks are jammed with youngsters getting ready for their spring sports and their parents just watching and appreciating the warm weather. The golf courses are opened and the winter rust is being chipped away, one swing a a time. The colors are returning as well.  We have several areas of the yard where the daffodils sprout early spring.  Almost all of the chutes are up, but this early bunch, just wanted to race out to be appreciated first.  It worked! I've gotten the snow shovels put away, the yard rakes have already made their debut, and the lawn mower is getting a tune up.In short order, the lawn and deck furniture will make it's appearance, and we ...

It is close and we cannot wait much longer. Our winter was of the record variety, and it has lingered far too long.  There is still areas with snow on the ground, but the end is in sight. People have been raking the lawns; kids had their bikes out; the parks were filled with people just relaxing and walking around; the driving ranges were packed, and the golf courses that were opened were jammed. With temps in the 60's today and projected for the week it is close.  Now we hope we don't get another curve and I'll gladly  get he lawn mower out. We Had  a Teaser of Spring Today

Happy Easter Today is the day of Celebration for the Resurrection For most Christians, today, Easter Sunday is a day of celebration and all will attend church services as a way of giving thanks. The early morning services at St Anthony's Church in Prospect CT was filled, and the altar was covered in Easter flowers.  Many of the younger parishioners were in their Easter clothes, all looking fresh and anxiously waiting fr mass to be over so they could get home to their Easter baskets. I did not see any bonnets, however. Enjoy the day and the company of those that will share the meal today. Easter Is a Time of Joy

The Spring Equinox is Upon Us, Will Spring Follow   Today Friday March 20 2015  is the Spring Equinox. It is the day in which the hours of light and dark are almost equal, depending on the location of the viewer. It is also considered to be the advent of spring, and for many here in Connecticut, it is so welcome.   Since December 21, the days gave been getting more light each day and will continue to do so until late June, when we hit the day with the greatest number of daylight hours.   Here's hoping the rest of March will get progressively warmer and the snow cover disappears so that we can enjoy some outside activities.   The Spring Equinox is Upon Us, Will Spring Follow

Signs of Spring in Prospect CT A few days ago I wrote a blog about hearing the birds singing as a sign of the arrival of Spring.  There was still a lot of snow on the ground, but there had to be a reason for the sign. We are starting to get some warmer temps, and have not had any real snow in almost 2 weeks now. There is still a lot of snow on the ground and I would expect at least another couple weeks of milder weather before we can see the ground that has been hidden since late December.  Around the foundation of our house the radiant  heat from the concrete has cleared some of the snow, but still not enough to make me want to tune up the lawn mower. While re-filling the bird feeders, howver, I may have found the reason why the birds were siging this morning, and even my spirits felt ...
