A Nor'Easter'  visits the North East and dumps a Bunch of SnowIt has been a bit mild for our Prospect CT winter and for those of us that look to something other than a rodent for indications of an early spring. The wait for warmer weather just got a little longer. The groundhog predicted another 6 weeks of winter back in early February, and for a while it seemed he was wrong as the daffodils were starting to peek out from under their winter cover; a little yard clean-up was started and I even had a chance to play a little spring golf as a few of the courses opened up.Then our reality of life in New England hit.  Storm Elsa visited with strong winds and snow accumulations that went as deep as 18" in Connecticut. In our town of Prospect CT the snow fall hit a foot and it was very heavy, so...

We took a vacation to the island of Cypress in 1995.  It is an island rich in history with evidence of Roman occupations, and even earlier civilizations in addition to evidence of the island once being completely underwater. At a point mid island on the Greek side, there is a site where one can find fossils of remnants of sea life all fused together by time and pressure. One must dig carefully as the shells can break very easily and there is a lot of dirt packed around them as well. This  is just the initial part of the process.  The shells take great time to slowly take the sand out of the crevices. Each shell needs to soak carefully to loosen the sand and with a tooth brush and tooth picks, poked and rubbed to expose the shell beneath. It is a process that takes months. And years later ...

Mother's Day 2017 . . I hope Every Mother Is Treated Special On This Special DayI once heard a line that tells a story: I didn't know the chicken had a neck until Mother died. It is a story of sacrifice for their children that is part of the spirit of being a mother and is as old as motherhood. So many children are oblivious to the negatives around them as they have a shield that will protect them from all the bad. It's called Motherhood.W celebrate 2017 with the matriarch of our family here to enjoy the children and spouses, and the progression down to the great grandchildren.Yes today was a special Mother's Day, and the love was shown to all in our little part of the world.Hopefully it was shown special to everyone else as well.Mother's Day 2017 . . The flowers are starting to really burst forth to announce the warmer weather. Our yard is no exception and as I came in after doing what agents do all day, it was a joy to see the welcome signs out for me.The daffodils were put in the lower garden with the flox starting to show signs of getting their buds going soon.  It is pretty, but unfortunatley it doesn't last very long. The Colors Said Welcome Home

In the Christian religion it is a day of celebration for the Resurrection of the Lord.  The Eastern church doesn't celebrate Easter normally at the same time as the Roman Church, except that it happens to coincide this year. For coincidences, it is also the weekend to celebrate Passover in the Jewish faith, another happy time as it celebrates the escape from Egypt and slavery for the Jewish people. What a happy coincidence that such a large group of people with different cultures and beliefs can come to together in spirit on a common weekend  with good thoughts and feelings. We should be so fortunate that these thoughts can continue for much longer and with more people embracing peace and harmony. Happy Easter  Wishing All A Happy Easter Sunday

As I walked around the yard early this morning picking up light branches and trash that had dropped over the winter, I also took a few minutes to take photos of the spring colors starting to emerge. The crocus are out and I had a variety of colors. The most plentiful being the yellow but across the yard I had the purple and white as well. The daffodil sprouts are all over the place and I even saw the hyacinths and tulips sprouts making themselves known. While they may not be much to see now, I am so anxious for spring that I''ll accept this promise of color to come. The Colors Are Starting to Show in Prospect CT

The time has come to change the clocks and get ready for the longer days of spring. It's called the spring Equinox, and it represents the time of year when the day has the same amount of light and dark, due to the rotation of the earth and it's turn around the sun. What this means is for many people that wake up on Sunday morning they will be upset when they realize they didn't move their clocks and are late for all the plans they had that day.  Not to mention the disruption when they walk into church and all eyes turn to them starting from the pulpit. It is also a god opportunity to make sure all the batteries in smoke detectors and here in Connecticut Carbon monoxide detectors are changed .For people with systems on timers like outdoor lights or like myself regenerating system for wat...

We are approaching the end of February and historically March is know to come in fierce, like a lion.  Just a few short days ago we still had maybe 6 inches of snow on the ground, but with some unseasonably warm days and a fierce rain storm, we can see the barren ground again.i am anxiously awaiting the spring and the opportunity to get outside and not be all bundled up.   We have not had a very bad winter, but my patience for the snow gets shorter every year.I think I would welcome that first mow of the season, for now. It's Bland But That's a Good Thing

Our grandson, Raphael is coming up on a birthday and as an early present we spent the night at a local Marriott so that he could take a swim. And swim he did. With no school it was like a great escape and we had the use of the pool to ourselves.  I spent so much time in the pool, that I started to look like an old prune.  He so enjoyed every minute of it so it was well worth the time.  Life is too short. Best Way to Celebrate President's Day, Go For a Swim

Prospect CT Home Prices: How do They Appreciate in Value?Over time, the value of a piece of real estate will go up and down. Property values appreciate in the long term typically. But there is always a certain amount of risk in real estate, of course. When your Prospect CT property appreciates, you as the proud owner now have a larger asset to borrow against, and you'll see a higher profit when you sell. Property values in Prospect CT rise and fall for various reasons, so how do you know what you're purchasing now won't depreciate the day after you close? Choosing an agent in Prospect CT who is familiar with the factors that influence local prices is the most important thing to consider. What is my home worth?  A lot of people assume that the economy is the top factor affecting real esta...

Dissention In the Family Ground-Hog Day Predictions 2017Feb 2 is traditionally called Groundhog Day, which is when that that chubby rodent is awakened too early so that he can come out of its burrow to predict the possibility of winter's end.Regardless of what the weather forecasters might think with all of their scientific gadgets and data, we still look to Nature for the possibility of an early spring. This year, the family of groundhogs are inconsistent in their predictions. In Gobbler's Nob PA, Punxsutawney Phil, probably annoyed at being rousted from bed so early, and after almost biting one of the assembled dignitaries, predicted another 6 weeks of winter. It could be a Central USA conspiracy as Buckeye Chuck in Marion Ohio also saw his shadow.Meanwhile, back here in Connecticut, w...

Free Market Analysis in Prospect CT If you are a Prospect CT homeowner and thinking of selling your home, you'll need to know exactly what it is worth before putting it on the market. This is especially critical in the current market with so many distressed or foreclosed homes tilting the values on a home. Using a computerized analysis as offered by many online providers doesn't tell the true story. As a real estate professional who lives in the community, I analyze home values and determine market prices every day. By comparing your home to recent sales and other, similar homes on the market I can quickly tell you what your home is worth. This analysis is known as "Comparative Market Analysis", or CMA. As I prepare a market analysis, I not only check comps in the market, but I analyze t...

We all try our best to make a transaction easy for our clients.  Such was the case with M & G as they sought my assistance to buy their first home.  It was not without some hurdles that needed to be overcome, but once that was completed, the rest flowed smoothly. They closed on their home in Mid January, 2017 and recently sent me a thank you, part of which I share here. When it comes to buy a house, there is no better person that can help you find your dream home, regardless if you are educated on the real estate market or you are a person like me, that initially knows NOTHING (and I mean, NOTHING !) about it.  Ed will patiently educate and guide you through the whole  process, answer all your questions, alleviate all your worries, provide you with everything you need (mortgage company, l...

Our Love of Country is Often Expressed in Words We had a significant week last week as the 45th President of the United States was sworn into office. Only time will tell how memorable and positive this will be for us. Among the groups invited to perform at the festivities was the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and they sang America the Beautiful, a song that has been sung my many famous artists over the years, as well as had lines quoted by many other famous dignitaries as they land on our shores for their first visit. I had read a post by an ActiveRain member yesterday that I respect and follow faithfully, Wanda Kubat-Nerdin. She wrote about God Bless America, another wonderful song that speaks to the heart of so many of us. In my mind, I read America the Beautiful and did not give her post t...
