As I walked along the front yard, I noticed the first blooms of the gladiolas.  They are a vertical stack of color and their colors are vibrant. There are several more plants in the grouping and they should blossom by the end of the week.  Summer colors are special and bring so much joy to the eyes. Gladtoknowya  Summer Flowers

We are into the eat of the summer with temperatures approaching 90+ , but as I make my way up my driveway, I have a flurry of colors as the lilies wave at me.  The driveway is long, but along one side is a garden filled with day lilies of all varieties, and it just seems that we have had just enough rain to bring out the colors as well as the differences. And the last lily is just a transplant from a past present that was given to my wife and somehow managed to survive a few winters. The Colors Waving as I Pass on my Way Home

Safe Under Ground Oil Storage Removal  In the '70's and '80's it was not uncommon in New England, for people putting up larger homes to have bulk oil storage tanks installed outside, underground. This was thought to be more cost effective and to lessen the possibility of running out of fuel. In spite of the preparations to the outsides of the tanks, over time, moisture in the ground as well as condensation inside the tanks cause them to erode and let the oil leak out and contaminate the ground. As this s environmentally dangerous the tanks should be removed before they deteriorate. It must also be addressed before the home owner considers selling their new home as lenders will not assume the risk to the mortgage with an in-ground tank, as well as insurance companies that issue home owne...

A Day at Fenway Park Boston MA I was fortunate as a kid to have attended baseball games at both Fenway Park in Boston as well as Yankee Stadium in New York City. We went as part of a Little League adventure. This would have to have been in the mid to late 1950's and aside from remembering who was playing the home teams, it was a day of remembrance to just have been there. This past Sunday, May 29 was a day that we took the youngest grandson, Raphael, to Fenway Park.  It was a game between Boston and the Toronto Blue Jays.  His team of choice, much to my chagrin was the team in Blue as it's his favorite color.Yawkey Way outside the park is a vendors haven with shops selling souvenirs as well as food and even street entertainers amusing the early arriving crowd. Our boy was ready for batti...

We are into the full bloom of summer and it is so soft on the eyes. As I was finishing the lawn, I just had to stop to see the colors of the yard shining brightly. The way up the driveway has the day lilies and iris, a contrast in orange and blue.Th azaleas are past bloom and we enjoyed the reds, pinks, and the white colors.   The rhododendrons are starting to come out  The pinks are always the first and then the whites will follow. Our colors will be there for the next few weeks and then the next group of blossoms will take over. Color, Color Everywhere  Oh What A Sight to See

For the 24rd year, postal carriers will be delivering mail and hopefully bringing back to their offices more than they deliver.  Saturday, May 14 is the one day of the year when a mailbox can be used for something other than a delivery. It will be the pick-up point to collect non-perishable food items for local food banks. Those willing to help should just collect non-perishable food items, such as canned meats, soups, juice vegetables, or boxed pasta, rice and cereals. Items that have expired or are in glass containers should not be donated. Place their items in bags, near their mailbox, and the letter carriers will see that they are delivered to the local food pantries.  Although not expressed, it’s also possible to deliver their donations to the local postal branch for collection as...

There is a connection between a mother and her children that defies definition. It reaches past the sense of logic and no matter how many times a harsh remark from a developing child may cut, it is a bond that knows no limit and is almost impossible to destroy. If times are tight, a mother will go without so that her children will. I once heard a line that went, the Children never knew the chicken had bones until mother died. Kids will break their hearts and cause many a tear, but they will not darken that light that shines in her eyes when she looks at them.A Mother will feel every pain her children have as if it was inflicted on her as well. A Mother will try to ease the burdens even though an obstinate child will insist that it needs to be done their way, even if blatantly wrong.I wi...

I had the opportunity to work in the yard today, and as I was finishing up the lawn, I just had to step back and appreciate the spring  flowers in the yard. At the bottom of the driveway, the flox is in bloom in the lower garden and the daffodils are still hanging strong even though it's been a little cooler than  we would like. Along the driveway the tulips are scarce.  The squirrels must have been busy after the bulbs, and the astilbe is starting to pick up. The buds are out on the azaleas and the laurels as well. Of course there are some flowers in the yard that are not going to be around very long, and their appearance is never appreciated They were gone quickly, as they spread way too quickly. It's Colorful in our Yard in Prospect CT

Technology can be a wonderful thing. It has given us so many advances over the last 20 years to make life easier. In our real estate world the advances have made the work easier with all at or fingertips, literally.Today I had an appointment to show one of my listings. As the prospective client entered the home, she said she had to make a call and excused herself.  She came back with her phone and told me she was going to walk her mother through the home, using the Skype app on her Iphone.  For 45 minutes, she walked thought the rooms, asking questions, changing directions as requested, as if the prospective buyer was in the room and not in Northern Virginia. At the end of the showing came a period of questions relative to pricing, time for occupancy, etc. A request was made for some ad...

Everyone knows the story of the Little Train that could or even the song High Hopes and the ant that wanted to move the rubber tree plant .  In the end they succeeded, and all was well.  Not all efforts are rewarded however.Let me back up and properly set the story up.  We have a sun room in our house that my wife has made into her own indoor garden.  It looks out on the yard and on some mornings it is just a pleasant place to sit, drink a cup of coffee and just relax.Evidently, it also looks appealing from the outside looking in, especially when the green outside is slow to appear. Such is the case with a large robin that will sit on the lilac bush just outside the room and peer into the room.  Something inside definitely has aught it's attention.  Maybe the Christmas poinsettia that h...

Saturday, April 16, the Town of Prospect CT will once again sponsor their annual fishing derby at the pond at McGrath Park, behind town hall. This past year, the pond was drained and cleaned out of all the weeds and deepened so it will make for a better day for the kids as well as the other anglers later. The weather should be ideal and as there have been a few people enjoying the fishing so far this spring, it should be ready for the kids.Cone on out and watch the joy on their faces as they pull on those poles. Children's Fishing Derby in Prospect CT April 16, 2016

How to Make A Productive Day FizzleIt was going to be a great day. I had inspections to set up for a buyer which I got done. Then another client was getting the final documentation gathered so that they could head to their appointment for last review and mortgage commitment. A check with the lawyer for a closing that was talking place this afternoon. I wasn't going to attend as it was just too far away.  Gather up my papers as I wasn't going to be home for a few hours and hustle out to the garage to get to a dental cleaning.  And then it all fell apart.Battery dead on the car and no one around to help. Call the dentist and cancel the appointment. Contact AAA and then wait. They couldn't install the battery they had brought as the alternator was not reading right. They did start the car,...
