Blooms A Poppin in Prospect CTSpring is starting to show signs of its presence here in Prospect, CT and a welcome sight it is.I was walking up the driveway and took a look at the front yard and the blossoms that are displayed.  It made me smile for its depth of color and it was mainly the daffodils.Even the hyacinths that were barely showing a week ago, were standing high.Closer to the driveway, where I had a tree removed, the daffodils are filling in nicely. In the back yard, the hedge of forsythias are almost at full bloom, and with it will come the pollen that signifies spring for those that suffer from allergies. Not quite three as yet are the mountain laurel with it's pinkish-red color. We are supposed to have warmer weather this week so these colors will certainly progress well.It is...

Total Eclipse of the Sun 2.08.24The celestial bodies offer up images on a somewhat frequent basis, which is when the path of one celestial body is blocked by another and the image or shadow falls on the last of the 3.It can be in the form of a lunar eclipse, when the earth takes a path between the sun and the moon, and the earth's shadow is shown on the lunar (moon's ) surface, or as happened this past Monday, a solar eclipse in which the moon aligns in the path between the earth and the moon and blocks the sun from the earth. There are numerous eclipses annually that fall all over our planet, and on occasion they are viewable from land. This latest eclipse was viewable in a swath across our country and passed though the Northeast. It began around 2:44 and lasted maybe a total of 15 minut...

The NCAA Men's Tournament is Down to its Last GameThe practices started back in late August of 2023 and for many the games were for records in very early November. Back and forth the 2 teams that meet on Monday night jockeyed nationally while taking care of their business within their conferences. The rankings meant little except for the prestige it carried, and maybe to move an eye of a potential recruit to wonder what it would be like to wear that uniform. It's almost all over now, and on Monday April 8 at 9:20 EST, it's tip off to see who remains the last team with a win.UConn Huskies vs Purdue Boiler Makers  Both are #1 seeds, with UConn be recognized as the first #1.  Purdue has never played for a National Championship, while UConn is playing for their 6th, and also playing for back...

Spring 2024  March Rains Led to April FlowersTh expression has always been April showers lead to May Flowers.  In years past that may have been the case, but I noticed while taking a light stroll along the yard this morning, that the flowers aren't waiting for much warmer weather. In fact, they aren't even concerned that the spring debris cleanup has yet to be done.We have daffodils all over the yard and as they are so good about regenerating themselves, they are not only stronger but also thicker.I know there are several varieties of daffodils, but the best I can do is large and small, yellow and white.Same with the hyacinth, and at least one of the clumps has far more this year than they had last year but still a little too early for them to fully blossom. It just cheered my soul to see...

Friday Flags A Patriotic Prospect CT DentistGetting back to life in Prospect CT, it was time for a trip to the dentist to get the teeth cleaned.I have been coming to the office for almost 30 years and even wt. a change in ownership there was no question as to the loyalties of the office. It's early spring and that means winds so very little time spent waiting for the perfect shot, unless it's too much wind.As they are only 3 miles from home also helps and hopefully while I still have my own teeth, I will be there at least a couple of times a year. Friday Flags A Patriotic Prospect CT Dentist

First Day of Spring 2024It's the first day of spring, officially called the Spring Equinox.  This means that for the Northern Hemisphere, we will get earlier sunrises, later sunsets, softer winds and the plants will start to bud.  For the purists, it il be 11:06 PM, EST.My yard must have had its dates messed up as my crocuses have a jump start as do the daffodils. This bunch is much larger than it was last yer. I was not aware that they self-propagated like other plants do.The daffodils are anxious to bud, even though we had a relatively mild winter with only 2 snowstorms, albeit they were big.Regardless of the transition time, it will be nice to get some warmer days back home. And for the real estate business, I would guess that this mean the starting flag has been dropped and the race ...

Happy St Patrick's Day 2024 Every year Irish all over the world, and want to bees', celebrate with much enthusiasm the death of the patron saint of Ireland, who died on arch 17. He was rumored to have driven the snake out of Ireland, which would have not been conceivable as there were no snakes in Ireland. As with all days of recognition, it has gotten to be highly commercialized and as my former, very Irish brothers-in-law would say each year as they stayed away from their favorite drinking spots, 'A Day for the Amateurs, much like New Years Eve.As the day is Sunday and just maybe a few people recognizing tomorrow is a workday, there will be lots of revelry and many an adult beverage consumed, some to excess but hopefully, the fun will be remembered.Anyway, for those that will go out to...

2024 Is the Time to Sell Your Prospect CT Home The market shift the past 3 years have created a perfect storm for home sellers. Even though interest rates are not as low as they were a few short years ago, the shortage of available properties to buy and the desire to own one's own home have buyers anxious. The chart below shows the extraordinary rise in values within the past few years with sellers holding more equity in their homes than ever before.  Since 2020, the average home in Prospect CT increased equity by over 40%. This is far greater than the typical 2-3% appreciation in values that would be normal.  Of course, it would also help to have an idea of the value of the home in the current market here in Prospect CT.  A current Market Evaluation on your home will give you the value ...

Groundhog's Day 2024 in Prospect CTIt's Groundhog Day, and as the tradition offers, if the burrowing rodent doesn't see its shadow when it peeks from its burrow, then it's a sign that we are in for an early spring. It's not likely that the little guy saw his shadow today for 2 reasons. The power went out in town early morning and was off for 3 hours so his alarm may not have worked. It's overcast and raining which is a better reason.Regardless, I welcome an early chase to the cold weather and will be appreciative of warm days when we return from the south.I hope Bill Muray has the same results we experienced and will face a new day tomorrow so he can watch the team his son coaches win another basketball game, unless he's enjoying the Pro-Am at Pebble Beach.Groundhog's Day 2024 in Prospect ...

Friday Flags at A Prospect CT Veterinary FacilityThe one nicety of a brisk day in winter is that the wind creates enough movement to make finding flags waving easier. Such was the case with a set-back flag that was still in the holiday spirit in Prospect CT recently. This is the location of the Prospect Veterinary hospital on the Waterbury Rd in Prospect CT. It not only tends to sick animals, but in the same building is a training and boarding facility.A one stop location for all a pets' needs for residents of Prospect CT and surrounding towns. And just for people that can't read quickly, the rest of the facade has a visual that may offer an insight as to what gets served within. If it's good enough for a celebrity like Snoopy, then the family pet will also get good attention as well.Frida...

Now is the Time to Prepare to Sell Your Prospect CT Home in 2024 For Prospect CT Homeowners that are looking to sell their home in 2024, it is essential to make the home as attractive as possible and to ensure that it gets its best exposure.  While it is still too cold to do anything outside, the inside of the home can be addressed so as to make it ready for a spring market. Homeowners must be mindful to start a list of repairs that need to be addressed as the hot sales market is still there and buyers want a move-in ready home and are prepared to buy a well-maintained house.Pre-Listing InspectionIf you have been in the use for a while, it might be a good idea to bring in a professional inspector to evaluate the house. Friday Flags at McGrath Pond in Prospect CTMerriman pond is a town recreation rea just off the town's center. It is art of a large recreational area with some walking trails, tennis/paddle ball courts, even a picnic table for a relaxing repast in the fresh air.The pond itself is manmade and is stocked with fish so all can enjoy, complete with fishing derbies for the kids.It is not very friendly in the cold months and when the weather blows even less so.As I was driving past on a day with winter in full blow, the flag at the park was waving to me to at least stop and take a photo, which I did and share as well.It was cold, sleeting, and as I just pulled to the shoulder to take the photo, I didn't want to stay there lang as it's a downhill slope.I hope to come back again in warmer, breezy...

It's Always Festive in Prospect CT's CenterOur town of Prospect CT is a small town with barely 11,000 in population. A few years back we were recognized as a top 300 place to live by Money Magazine in their annual review.Town government is well managed and there are celebrations and recognition of all major holidays. The town center has an island that serves as an informational area as signs are allowed to be posted to recognize special events. It's also decorated for the time of year and for the Christmas holidays, the evergreen that is on the green is covered with lights. We didn't have snow for Christmas, but we have it now and as I was driving through town, I stopped long enough to grab this photo. It was too cold to wait for it to get darker, but I thought this was almost as good. It's ...

First Snow of The Year in Prospect CTThe name of the storm is Aspen, and like it's namesake in Colorado, it felt it needed to put some white stuff on the ground. It is not an official Nor'easter' but with the northwest corner of the state getting 14" of snow, it can't be too far from that. Here in Prospect CT, at least in our area, we topped off at 8", of the shite stuff which came down first as snow, they a little sleet then back to snow. The trees are not naked. as Dr. Paula McDonald   wrote in her post today. The back yard is less dramatic as the trees are further away from the house. Our front yard looks to be in another neighborhood and is really a winter wasteland. The snow is good for the grass and plants as it tends to allow the fall fertilizer and lime to set better. In short order I ...
