Friday Flags  At least A reason to Smile in Prospect, CTEveryone loves a trip to the dentist office, right? Yes, for sure. At the very least, while getting ready for a visit, the sight on the way in was a quick reason to smile. It wasn't too bad of a trip, and of course the flag was appreciative of the exposure as well.Friday Flags  At least A reason to Smile in Prospect, CT

Prospect CT Revaluation Numbers Have Residents ConcernedIn the State of Connecticut, towns must do an adjustment for property values very 5 years, and one of those requires a physical review of the property. For 2024, the values were adjusted based on sales, and a period was offered for residents to appeal or at least get an explanation of the increase.Over the past 5 years, the average real estate value for sales of houses in the Town of Prospect has increased by 31%, which has made sellers very happy for the increase in their homes' value. With the new assessments sent out to homeowners, some have been concerned for the potential increase in their taxes.Let's assume a home with an appraised value of $400,000, it's taxes would have been based on its assessed value, which is typically 30...

Friday Flags:  Hotchkiss Field Prospect CTThe largest park in Prospect CT is located right off the main artery. Hotchkiss Field. It gets a lot of attention for the athletic fields basketball courts, hockey area and the skate are.People can be seen walking all over the track with cutoffs should they need to take a  break. With the cold and snow, activity is down, but the flag is still flying high.  On a breezy day, I walked as far as I could as I didn't have boots, and took a shot.It wasn't the best, and as it was still within the 30-day respect period for President Carter, I held off on sing it.We got some warm days, and with  a steady wind I decided to stop again when it could try to get a better shot. As I could walk down towards the baseball field, I was also able to get another shot.T...

Friday Flags A Final Half Mast Flag in Prospect CTJust off the center of the town is a manmade lake, called McGrath Pond. and earlier in the day I went by to see someone fishing well off the bank.  The flag on the pole adjacent to the pond monument was still at half-mast also and while the wind was blowing it was not that strong and this pond is sheltered, but I still managed to get a decent shot.It surely looks like winter and not the most hospitable area but the flag still managed to bring a pause for me to stop and a smile on my face.Friday Flags A Final Half Mast Flag in Prospect CT

Friday Flags: A Patriotic Prospect CT Pizza RestaurantAs I make my runs through the area, I am always looking for a possibility of a flag for this Friday Flags series. This week was also special for the National Pizza Week recognition. So, it seemed so appropriate to combine the two, when I spotted the flag in front of Hometown Pizza in Prospect, CT.It was midafternoon so it wasn't as crowded as it normally is, but they were still active with slices to go.In a small town like Prospect, CT many of the businesses along the main roads do have their flag out front, and it makes fora big smile from me.Friday Flags: A Patriotic Prospect CT Pizza Restaurant

Flags At Half Mast For Respect in Prospect CT 1.09.25As our nation paid its last respects to a President that was always caring and may have been in office at the wrong time, which cost him a re-election, many wish for leaders that had half his heart, or did so much.It ws a windy day in the Northeast and as I passed the Prospect town center, a flurry was noticed..The burdens are huge, the noise is loud, but a peanut farmer from Georgia, left a large legacy. Flags At Half Mast For Respect in Prospect CT 1.09.25

Friday Flags:   Flag by Moonlight in Prospect CTWe had a full moon this week and as I was driving home early evening, I caught the flag waving on the town green.  Yes, I know proper flag decorum would have the flag being taken down at dusk and raised early morning, but this is not a military facility.I wanted to get a shot of the flag with the full moon in the background.First attempt, the moon was attuned but the wind wasn't.  So, I waited and got better results, but still not as well as I thought I could do.The light at the center of the flagpole did help to keep the flag illuminated.Still not quite satisfied but had to get back to the house.Next night, the wind was a bit stronger and still into full moon so let's take a chance.I got the ideal shot with flag fully furled and waving at...

The Northern Lights Show Further South than NormalI have had an item on the bucket list that was going to have me traveling to cooler areas of the Northern hemisphere at a time of year when I want warm climes. This was so that I could gaze and be amazed by the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. So pleased was I that they came to me and all I had to do was go outside and gaze upward. The phenomena known as the Northern Lights, or Southern, as it can also occur over the South pole as well, is caused by interaction with the Suns activities puling on the Earth's magnetic field. This launches particles at high speeds that interact with the upper layer of the earth's gasses. The simple reality is that it is a common sight in the cooler areas where the air is less dense, and no one knows why the ...

Friday Flags Patriotic Prospect CT Pool Supply StoreAlong the business corridor in Prospect are several offices and small businesses. At the front of one is a flag to identify the business as loyal to our country. The angle at which it hangs makes it difficult to get a shot of in full flutter, but regardless, it is there for all to see and just maybe catch an eye to let people know the owners are proud Americans. The hurricane running through the south will make an impact here in CT this weekend, Maybe I can catch a shot when the wind is blowing. Friday Flags Patriotic Prospect CT Pool Supply Store

An Afternoon at the Prospect CT Sock Hop and Car Last weekend was the sock Hop and Car show in the center of Prospect CT, and it was a rousing success. Over 850 cars of all types were there and the procession of people viewing the cars was nonstop.Ther were all types of cars and trucks and several special interest autos that gathered a lot of attention. To me, this 1911 Packard Model 50 was the attention grabber as it was found in a barn in Greenwich CT and originally had been purchased by Jacob Ruppert, owner of a brewing company and a baseball team called the Yankees. It was a National Prize winner at the AACA show in Hershey PA as well.here were a[[ manner of classics from the 50's, 60's and 70's. One car that had a large following was a 58 Corvette that was still owned by the original...

Prospect CT Summer Colors  Special HydrangeasIt has been an exceptional yer for blooms all over the state, especially hydrangeas. The mix of heat, water and some care has made almost anybody that has a hydrangea look like the absolute greatest gardener.I posted of our blue hydrangeas, earlier and they are a wall of colors, so much so that the stalks cannot support the weight of the blossoms. We have a smaller bush that was given to my wife some years ack as a Mother's Day gift and aside from the first year, never grew a bloom. A portion of that was the activity of dear chewing all the leaves and buds before they could get a start. This year I was ahead of the deer and the blossoms got a chance and they are special. As best as I can determine, the flower is called   Tokyo delight with larg...

Working a Little Harder for that MealWe just had the garden areas cleaned up and fresh mulch added. It all came out very nice. One of the negatives, however, was the area below the bird feeder, where the ground critters would scratch for the leftovers. I noticed the mulch had been disturbed but didn't see the reason until early Friday afternoon. It was as though the chipmunk was trying to burrow a new home, but then it moved.  Another was doing the same.It may take a few days for enough to be dropped from the feeder so that they can stop the digging. Working a Little Harder for that Meal

Summer Colors in the Yard in Prospect CTOur spring blooms were plentiful, and the summer astilbes and day lilies don't last very long. It is always pleasant to look into the yard and see the wall of blue hydrangeas that last so long.We had some rain during the night and the water dropped the blossoms, but with some sun they will spruce right back to smile. Summer Colors in the Yard in Prospect CT
