My son, daughter in-law, and my gorgeous granddaughter, Elizabeth were here last week all the way from Bonnie Lakes, WA.  One of Elizabeth's favorite things to do is to visit the Mystic Aquarium.  While there we decided to have lunch at a local restaurant that has very good burgers, as well as seafood.  They also specialize in some creative "Libations".  I am not much of a drinker, in fact my favorite lunch drink is a tall glass of ice water.  However, when I saw this menu at the Engine Room my mind automatically caused me to thing of two well know ActiveRain members Brian England and Wayne Martin who do seen to enjoy an "Libation" or two.  So I thought I would post the Engine Rooms list of "Libations" for them in case they ever make it to CT.

Masons Island is the island you have dreamed of - picturesque and unspoiled - preserved for the recreation and enjoyment of those who love nature and wish to dwell comfortably and conveniently amid beautiful surroundings. The natural contour of Masons Island along with its sweeping views of two great bodies of water, superior dockage capabilities, 47 acre nature preserve and rich history make this destination unequalled for the quintessential summer home or year-round resident.  Those who are familiar with the island's unique beauty can understand why the Masons Island Company has long protected one of Connecticut's natural gems from overdevelopment.  The Allyn family, who has now lived and owned property on the island for five generations founded the Masons   Island Company in 1912, en...

A day for Veterans at S&P Oyster Co. in Mystic, CT It is my pleasure to write about such a wonderful and well thought out event. I was talking to one of the owner's of S&P Oyster Company, Cathleen Holland, yesterday and if her level of enthusiasm for this event is a precursor, the event will be a GREAT success. I couldn't help but feel that this event needed any bit of exposure I could add...so here we are. The S&P Oyster Company Veteran & Troop Rally in Mystic, CT is being held on 11/11/10 from 11:30a-10:00p. The restaurant will be donating 20% of sales for the day to support the Connecticut Department of Veteran Affairs, Give2TheTroops.org and Veteran Honor Flights.  Hi All,  I need your help! Help me pick a phone. Okay, so I hate to admit this but here we go... I have an old phone! I haven't upgraded in quite a while(3yrs.), I think it is about time!  I am a Verizon customer and I am happy with the service, so I have limited my search to those available on their network. I am leaning towards a Andriod, the HTC Incredible, Motorola Droid X, or Droid 2. All will cost about the same amount.  Do any of you have one of these phones? If so how do you like it, what are the pros and cons? I really appreciate an input / feedback you can offer. Thanks in advance! www.mysticrealestateagent.com

Hiking Mt. Washington is a lot like being a Realtor Hi All,   I recently hiked Mt. Washington. It was an amazing experience and a long trek, which gave me a lot of time to think(and no cell service). I realized that the hike and and my career are very similar. The trek to the summit (6,288ft. !) and the descent are quite like being a Realtor. There are obstacles, hard work some disappointment and a very gratifying sense of reward.   I have worked on a number of difficult listings and with clients facing hard times, tough decisions and obstacles. Climbing up a mountain can be a difficult and dangerous slope(pardon the pun) to tread. It is very similar to the choices that we require of our clients, and ourselves. If we stick in there and are a resource to our clients, we provide a service...

I recently met with two of my favorite sellers whose home is located in Mystic. For half an hour we discussed the positioning of their property in the market place, the possibility of changing the photos, and recent sales whose characteristics were similar to their home and ultimately effected the value.  All variables that are crucial in getting their property sold so that they can move on to the next stage of their lives and be closer to loved ones down south.  As we were wrapping up the meeting a question was asked regarding the number of sales that have historically taken place in what is thought to be "the off season." Bray Consultants as a group rely on facts so I was reluctant to answer the question without the statistics in front of me. Over the next few hours I downloaded all o...

Hi All, My hypothesis is yes and no. I can go with my family and limit my work load but cannot leave my phone and email capabilities. This is an interesting industry(kind of like Texas Hold'em Poker), where there is often some static waiting/patience(for the mortgage, clear to close or for the reply to a request for repairs after inspections) with moments of feverored activity(offers/counteroffers, getting the house listed or getting everone to the closing table). No matter how prepared or systematic, there seems to be an issue(solvable most of the time) that pops up and needs to be handled before close. If I were to ignore any of these, I lose a deal. I don't like to hand off my clients to someone else in the office. So my final answer to the question can a Realtor take a vacation is ...

Mystic is the Cornerstone of Southeastern CT.  This sea Faring village is bound by Fishers Island Sound to the south, split by the Mystic River and attracts millions of visitors per year from all over the Globe. Historically a leading seaport of the area, the story of Mystic's nautical connection can be found at the Mystic Seaport, the world's largest maritime museum. As a major New England tourist destination, the village is also home to the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration, where the researchers are dedicated to the rehabilitation of marine life.   The nearby shops of Olde Mistick Village serve as an escape for the shopping enthusiast.   People recognize Mystic for its famous restaurants, including Mystic Pizza starring Julia Roberts, which was filmed in Mystic, Stoningto...

Groton Long Point surpasses the definition of a Waterfront Community. Gorgeous waterfront homes line the beaches and coastline of this summer oasis while smaller cottages make up the interior portion of the community.  There are a total of 590 homes on this +- 100 acre parcel of land governed by the Groton Long Point Association, which was established by CT legislation in 1921. The borough of Groton Long Point provides an active lifestyle for those interested in walking the boardwalk, biking, or kayaking with a picturesque Fishers Island Backdrop. Spend your days playing on white sand beaches that spill into the Long Island Sound.  Utilize the Yacht Club for swimming, sailing, or tennis lessons. The Yacht Club often times organizes activities such as movies, dances, and scavenger hunts ...

My team and I religiously track the real estate market in search of information that will give us a competitive advantage and help our clients. On a biweekly basis we take each of our listings and monitor the # of properties in direct competition; how many new properties have been added to the market; how many price reductions; # of properties under contract; # of properties closed; etc. Over time trends emerge...but I have never seen a trend like the one I discovered yesterday. Keep in mind that over the past 5 years it has been our primary goal to market properties better than the competition and simply get them under contract. 95% of the time these properties would go through the motions and successfully close. Times have changed.  As an example I would like to show you the Groton re...
