THING 12 - Pick up family As this is a blog about things to do in Greenwich I do not endorse leaving the area, but inviting more people into it is perfectly acceptable. The Westchester Airport is not in Greenwich (technically), but it is pretty darn close. With JetBlue and other major airlines flying into it, there is no closer airport or hub to pick up relatives (who wants to drive to Newark to pick up their mother in law?!). For more information on the Westchester County Airport please visit its website at: http://airport.westchestergov.com/

THING 11 – Greenwich Has Got Talent You’ve probably seen the signs all over town as local retailers have been selling tickets to ‘Greenwich Has Got Talent 2010.’ The annual event is put on by the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce. On their website they refer to it as a Variety Show that showcases “singers, dancers, musicians, actors, comedians, and a myriad of variety acts.” Maria Kelly Stevens is the Artistic Director/Producer. Its events like these that I’m excited to learn about as I try to come up with 365 things to do in Greenwich. I did not know (or at least wasn’t paying full attention) that this event occurred annually. Has anyone out there (reading this) gone to this? I’m very curious to hear if it is a full fledge competition or just a local talent show. Please give me some feedba...

THING 10 - Wake up with a great breakfast sandwich – CORBO’S. You’ve got to love Corbo’s bacon double egg and cheese. Corbos is a quintessential Italian Deli with great staff. They have two locations in Greenwich, both on the post road: 470 W Putnam Ave & 1380 E Putnam Ave (old Greenwich). I can’t say enough about the staff. I am by no means a regular and known to the staff, but have spent a fair bit of time in each location and always feel welcome. In a town that can be hard to get familiarized with, this warmth goes a long way with me. I always recommend Corbo’s to new clients from out of town. They (Corbo’s staff) make everyone feel welcome and cook a mean breakfast sandwich. I picked the breakfast sandwich as the “thing” to get/do, so I can use the Corbo’s lunch later in my list of ...

THING 9 – Read a magazine or close your eyes I’m not staying that I’ve ever nodded off at the Greenwich Library, I’m just saying that it is hard not to in these chairs. I thought about taking a picture of someone in their resting state (there are always a couple), but figured they might not appreciate the internet exposure. The Greenwich Library has about 10 of these incredibly comfortable seats in the quiet section by the magazine stacks. It’s a great place to catch up on work (wireless w/ laptop is beautiful) or just get away from the family/boss/rat race.   For more information from the Greenwich Library please visit its website at: http://www.greenwichlibrary.org/

THING 8 - Have a baby I was born there. My daughter was born there. I highly recommend it. The “free” Filet Mignon or Lobster isn’t a bad bonus. Plus you get to drive into the emergency entrance for a good reason…   In all seriousness, the Greenwich Hospital is a fantastic operation. The hospital is a part of the Yale New Haven Health system, which also includes Bridgeport Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital. There are 174 patient beds and 32 bassinets. According to the Greenwich Hospital website, over 2,000 babies were born in the Greenwich Hospital over the past year. In addition to serving Greenwich, CT, the hospital also serves parts of western Westchester County. In 2005, the hospital added a 150,000 sq.ft. addition (Olive and Thomas J. Watson Pavilion) to accommodate new treatmen...

If I had the money I’d definitely go to next weekend’s MMRF Fall Celebrity Gala with Paul Simon and Diana Krall. This is a wonderful event (one of the largest fundraising events in Greenwich) to help raise money in honor of multiple myeloma. In addition to the music there will also be an auction, which includes such items as a trip to the Grammy Awards, tickets to see Justin Bieber and most importantly Yankee tickets. If you are interested, here is some more information: http://events.greenwichtime.com/old-greenwich-ct/events/show/147910525-mmrf-fall-celebrity-gala-with-paul-simon-and-diana-krall http://www.themmrf.org/donate-now-take-action/join-an-event/main-events/ http://www.benefitoffice.org/mmrf/auction/

Walking, hiking, running, horseback riding, mountain biking and cross country skiing are all activities that Greenwich residents enjoy at Babcock. The preserve takes up 297 acres of Greenwich forest and includes a vast network of trails and abandoned roads. Many different local walking and hiking groups meet up here on a regular basis. It’s a great location to go for a 15 minute walk or 3 hour hike with the entire family (canines and all). Babcock is of my favorite spots to get away without traveling far. I used to mountain bike all throughout Babcock as a kid, but now prefer the more peaceful dog walking. Most of the trails are fairly smooth, though there are some more difficult sections of rocky and steep terrain. Be prepared to move some trees and branches if you visit Babcock after...

In building my own website focused on Greenwich, CT I am looking to brand myself and my website. My intentions are to build a website detailing the town and local information, and then also market myself on the website. This means that at first glance the website will be infomational. I might add in chat rooms and room for local business to market their products as well.   Now I need to brand the website. I just bought an incredible domain (I will tell you what it is once it gets transfered next week) and want to come up with a neat design for it. The domain includes the word Greenwich, which is what I want to brand. Any ideas? We have a neat clock on our avenue I was thinking of using, but didn't know if that was legal for me to take a picture of the clock and build a design off it. An...

I loved the challenge of staging this room in a townhouse in Greenwich, CT: Challenges: very low budget outdated, but signature pieces furniture family artist painted all the pictures - personal taste large rug with distracting pattern that does not show the great hardwood floor as a selling point not ideal furniture placement for buyers being able to freely move around in the living room ceiling mounted - roll down screen for watching TV  - most buyers would not want to watch TV like this clients are musicians, so we were asked to have an area for the instruments   Solutions: we used existing furniture, but brought in new accessories to update the room rearranged furniture to open up the traffic flow in the room removed some furniture and others moved them into a different room brought...

For the past 8 years, my companyTurtle Clan Environment Testing Inc which is located in Connecticut and New York and proudly serves the tri state area, has been conducting environmental assessments using lot's of state of the art equipment such as our Thermal Imaging Equipment, Thanks to our Thermal Imaging Camera, we were able to find a hole this small in a huge commercial space without having to tear out any walls! This tiny hole had been leaking water unnoticed until there was a horrible mold event that had been brought about by this unnoticed water behind the walls... For years this had been going on and it only takes 24-48 hours for the mold which is already there naturally, to colonize making a lovely moldy garden patch right where you don't want it... Plus, everyone in this bui...

We at Redesign Your Space understand how emotional it can be to sell your house. Home Sellers might have mentally already moved on to their new home and feel already disconnected to the house you are still living in. This can be a costly mistake. Why? The reasons for selling a home can be many, but regardless of the reason, once a house is on the market for sale, you are in business. This means your home is no longer your home, but a product that you are selling. Therefore, it has to be prepared as such. Are you ready for this? Getting a house ready for sale is a full-time job and needs some investments (time and/or money) to make it stand out from the competition. Once mentally moved on to the next home, most sellers are reluctant to put any more money into the property they are sellin...

I had a lot of fun staging this occupied home. We brightened up the dining room with some lighter colors and bought in rental furniture to update the look.   In the other rooms we used mainly what the client already owned with just brining in some new accent pieces. We neutralized the patterened sofa with a slip cover, decluttered and added some new accessories. Before the bedroom felt pressing with the heavy draperies and clutter. The bedroom received a lighter look through some neutral color on the walls and lighter window treatments after decluttering several furniture pieces.  The Real Estate Agent was very pleased: "The open house went very well. The brokers that had seen the house a month ago did not recognize it! The change of colors in the DR and MBR and taking away any clutter...

We continued to see better than expected numbers through the first of the year.   The buyer activity level is high.  Agents are busy showing properties and we are slowly seeing contracts reported.     In the month of January we saw 14 single family contracts signed.  So far this month, we have already seen 15 contracts signed.  This should result in continued higher sales numbers in the first quarter. Our year to date numbers are going to look good this year as 2009 numbers were the worst on record in Greenwich real estate history.  The average days on the market for homes that have sold so far this year is down to 186 from 288 last year.   This indicates that sellers are becoming more aware of the importance of pricing appropriately.  No longer are the days of testing the market.  The ...

Greenwich CT ranked 3rd in country for expensive homes! In an apple-to-apples comparison of average sales prices for 2,200-square-foot, four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath homes, Greenwich ranks as the third-most expensive market in the country, with an average price of $1,519,250, according to a recent survey by Coldwell Banker. The list of the top-10 most expensive markets was dominated by California communities, which made up eight of the top 10 most expensive places to live nationwide. Boston, at seventh place with an average price of $1,337,578, was the only other non-California community to crack the top 10.The overall national average price for the target home nationwide was $363,401. La Jolla, Calif., was the most expensive market in the country, at $2,125,000, while Grayling, Mich...

How to fix your credit in Fairfield CT: Part 4 of a 4 part series In part 1 you obtained your credit report.  In part 2 and three you disputed your derogatory items and validated your collection accounts. Now for part 4.  I tell this top people all the time.  Only 50% of credit repair is actually trying to get inaccurate negative information removed from someones credit report (yes only 50%).  One very important thing to do is to make sure there is enough good credit on someones report.  Most often (read 90-95%) people who have bad credit do not have any current good credit or at best very little.  In the scoring model's ideal person, that person would have 1 mortgage, 1 installment loan, and 3-5 credit cards.  Most people with poor credit don't have 3-5 credit cards.  I have heard this...

Year to date Sales of Single family homes are down 60.6%.   We have sold 97 Single Family homes year to date. The average sale price has consistently dropped since September of 08 and is 20.8% below last year at this time. The average days on the market for homes that have sold this year also consistently went up to a high of 294.  Last month it went down.   This indicates to me that sellers are becoming more aware and are pricing properties to secure contracts quickly, no longer are the days of testing the market. The list price to sold price ratio is 88.4% for homes that have sold this year.   Last year at this time is was running closer to 96% The inventory is up about 16.5% from last year.  This increased significantly in May and June of this year. The Absorption rate is up to a rec...
