I’m not really sure where I stand on Valentine’s Day. The cool kid in me wants to shrug it off and say that it’s just a gimmick created by Hallmark to sell cards.  The sap in me likes to think that it’s a nice to day to go a little overboard and do something nice for my wife.  Either way, it stinks when you forget Valentines Day. That’s why I’m here using up one of my “Things” to do and reminding everyone that Monday is Valentine’s Day.  No matter where you stand on the appreciation for this “holiday” you should be aware that it’s coming up as someone in your life might be expecting a little recognition.

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com Science Lecture Series 2010 – 2011:  Our National Parks, Preserves and Refuges Sunday, February 13, 2011 — 3:00 pm A Dream Fulfilled: Our Nation’s Tropical Garden Charles “Chipper” Wichman, Director and CEO of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. The idea of a national organization focused on preserving tropical bio-diversity was a long-held dream of many visionary and influential people. That dream came into existence with the signing of Public Law 88-449 on August 19, 1964, which, by an act of Congress, created the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Today, with five gardens and five preserves and programs that reach around the world, the NTBG is that dream fulfilled. The lecture is free to Museum members and students with id. Non-members: $5 at ...

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com For those of us who grew up in Greenwich, this is Colonial (name changed to Glory Days a little while ago). I’m assuming that was due to a ownership change. It looks and feels the same to me. The only difference I can see is that the diner is only open until 1:30am. I’m not sure if Colonial was 24/7, though I do remember eating there past 1:30am. Fantastic post-party spot. Now that I’ve made my way into the adult side of life I still enjoy meeting friends here for coffee, breakfast or lunch. Its the only true diner in Greenwich that I can think of. Comfortable booths, lots of coffee and greasy food, and wont kill your wallet.

If anyone out there in cyber space knows of someone looking to buy, sell or rent in Fairfield or Westchester Counties, I’d love the chance to talk to them. I’m currently working with the #1 team in William Raveis covering all of Fairfield County and Eastern Westchester County. I personally focus on Greenwich, CT and Rye, NY, but work closely with teammates that focus on every other town in the counties (including Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Rowayton, Norwalk, Westport and Fairfield). Today, being the Monday after the Super Bowl, signifies the unofficial start to the spring market, so it’s a great time to list your house and/or start checking out listings to bid on. After talking to your contacts if they decide to use someone else, that’s totally fine. I’d just love the chance to prese...

When it comes to Super Bowl parties I’ve seen it all. Ok, I’ve never actually attended the Super Bowl or any seriously crazy parties, but I’ve been to my share of home events.  I’ve seen the classic nachos, dip and Budweiser.  Slightly upper scale events include pigs in blankets and maybe some mixed drinks.  Some have even pulled out  shrimp cocktails and wine, but I’m not sure they understood that we were watching a football event and not some yachting regatta. If I were hosting an event this year (as opposed to being on Jet Blue watching the game on a tiny screen) I would, without question, get Garden Catering to “cater” my party.  I put “cater” in quotes as I can’t afford to have waiter and trays floating around, but even with my budget I could afford to get a couple trays of nugget...

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com Those of you who read the Greenwich Time today know what I’m talking about, but for those of you who didn’t, the Greenwich Academy Varsity Squash team is currently undefeated (8-0) and only has two more matches before the Team Nationals at Yale on the 11th.  I’m sorry Darien (2/2/11) and Sacred Heart (2/7/11), but these girls seem to be on a roll. Here’s the Greenwich Time article for those of you who prefer reading the writings of a professional. Here’s the Greenwich Academy schedule if you have an interest in attending.

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com Betteridge is one of those stores that have been in Greenwich since the beginning and therefore can host events like this without looking like they are just doing it for the publicity.  Of course they want any advertising they can get, though it’s not like they need it.  Anyone who has lived here for a decent period of time knows all about it.  There will be a lot of people in attendance that have no interest in actually buying an engagement ring, but are there for a little more history on the town.  The store has been around since 1897 and has a lot of stories to tell.  If you are interested in learning about some more Greenwich history you should check this out. “Thursday, February 3, 2011, 6 pm – 8 pm This in-store event, held in conjunction with t...

from my blog at GreenwichCT.com I’m not sure who this dude is (Joshua Roman, Cello), but he’s shown on the Greenwich Symphony’s website for the concerts this weekend (29th and 30th @ 4pm).  For those of you who like classical music you really should look into the Greenwich Symphony. They get incredible reviews and it is not that expensive. For more information check out their website at www.greenwichsym.org

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com Since this is THING 100 I figured that I should find something really special to do.  For those of you who don’t have dogs, this might not seem that cool, but for those of you who do, you really need to head down to Tod’s Point (Greenwich Point Park).  The Point is open to dogs through the winter. They are allowed off leash as long as they stay below the high water mark on the beach.  This is a dog’s dream. You’ll have a blast. I’ll be there tomorrow morning.

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com Tonight (Jan 28th) there will be a screening of End of the Line at the Greenwich Audubon.  This is the first major film to address over fishing throughout the world.  There will be a wine and cheese reception from 6pm to 7pm, when the movie starts.  The event costs $15 for those 21 and older and $5 for those under.  They probably don’t get too many people saying they are under 21 for a wine and cheese reception. This looks like a really interesting movie. If you have an interest in attending please call (203) 869-5272 Ext. 239 for Jeff or you can email him at jcordulack@audubon.org.

from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com I’m not sure if the school has a better option, but the large banner location at the intersection of the Post Road and Hillside is a pain.   I’ve never actually been able to read the banner without adding some risky behavior to my driving.  For the past couple days I’ve been trying to read what they are talking about to no avail. I’m always looking for things to do for this blog. Anyhow, right now the Greenwich High School is marketing their Summer Fair Expo, which should take place Wednesday night (Thurs if it snows..)  from 6pm to 9pm. This expo showcases over 130 activities for middle and high school students to participate in this coming summer. from my blog at www.GreenwichCt.com Since half of Greenwich has either crashed into a tree or is stuck in a ditch (weatherman said flurries…), I figured that the other half with working vehicles should bring home some good ego boosting food tonight.  On your way back from work I highly recommend swinging by My Favorite Place for some take-out.  This is a picture of my first MFP burger.  It’s a beautiful thing. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/My-Favorite-Place/249088341050
