The Hotchkiss Bulldogs are ready for a fast and hard hitting 2016 football season. Last year the team was the only Delta County team that didn't make into the playoffs and the Bulldogs are hoping to make up for that this year. Hotchkiss starts off it's season on the road. The team will travel to Dolores on September 2nd. That game starts at 7PM. Here's a link to the team's full schedule. There are three games of local interest. On 10/7 the Bulldogs will travel to Paonia to take on the ever tough Eagles. That should be a great game. Then on 10/21 the team will travel to Olathe, and a week after that Hotchkiss will host the Cedaredge Bruins. 12th Annual Hotchkiss Sheep Dog Trial InformationIt's really all about the dogs. There are a lot of other events planned in conjunction with the sheep dog trials, but the dogs take center stage on this particular weekend. This year's event is on May 8th and runs through the 10th. You can find out more information here. It all takes place at East Hotchkiss Ave and 2nd St. While at the trials you will also find vendors with locally make products and food. 2014 Hotchkiss K-8 Back to School and Registration Information School will be starting before we know it. It's still summer, but the days of summer vacation are winding down. The stores are starting to advertise back to school specials, and it's time to start thinking about stocking up on supplies for the new school year.  Here's the back to school and registration information you need for Hotchkiss kindergarten through 8th grade.  Registration for Hotchkiss K-8 is Wednesday, August 6th from 8:00 - 4:00. This is for new and returning students.  The first day of school is August 20th. A lot of stores have already started running back to school sales. Well they are still here, but it is time to start thinking about going back to school for students in Delta County, Colorado. School starts countywide on August 20th.  Here is the back to school information and registration information for Hotchkiss High School.  Freshman and new students register on Friday, August 8th from 7:30 - 4:00. Returning students register on Monday, August 11th from 7:30 - 4:00. Remember the first day of school is Wednesday, August 20th.  There is no school supply list for the high school students. Hotchkiss Rated as a Top Small Town in Colorado. This small mountain town in Delta County keeps some good company in being ranked as one of the state's top small towns in which to live. The ranking was put together by citiesjoural.com.  Hotchkiss was ranked 11th out 12 small towns in the state. Also included in this list is Glenwood Springs, Aspen and Telluride. So Hotchkiss is running with some pretty well known towns that tend to cater more to the rich and famous. It's likely that Hotchkiss would have rated higher, if there was a ski area nearby.  Some popular Delta County events are held in Hotchkiss. Scenes From The 2013 Hotchkiss, CO Sheep Dog Trials. It was really amazing to watch the herding dogs in action, but there was much more to the event. There was sheep shearing, yarn spinning and beading. It was a good ole country time at the Hotchkiss Sheep Dog Trials. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect with temperature in the mid 70s. The Town of Hotchkiss was very welcoming to it's guest and there was a big community yard sale and several smaller yard sales. Make sure you pay special attention to the sheep shearer. That is local rancher and retired Delta County real estate agent, Doug Hamilton. Doug is so deeply rooted in this county, there's even a road named after his family. I hope you enjoy this video. 10th Annual Hotchkiss, CO Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials. The locals just call this event The Sheep Dog Trials. It's widely known and well attended. It's coming up again on May 10th - 12th, 2013 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. As always it will be held at the Hotchkiss Fairgrounds. The event website has more information on start times as well as links to local information. There are other events and demonstrations planned, and there will be plenty of food available, too. Check out the website for more information. The primary focus, though, is on the dogs. It's really something to see the dogs and handlers work together to make the sheep "behave".
